I had a 6pm appt on Dec 22nd with Ducklo Eye. After arriving I was very much caught off guard when informed I had to pay a $38 upcharge to keep my appt. I was told their policy did not allow normal dilation after 6pm because the staff wouldn't be paid to stay to 7:30. I explained I didn't believe it was right to inform a customer of an upcharge after arrival. I also noted that I had specifically chosen this appt as the day prior I had called their office and was told all appt the following wk would be required to pay for a digital imaging up-charge due to the large amount of customer traffic at the EOY. She confirmed they did have offer normal dilation which was covered by insurance for this wk and even noted the only slot left for the wk was 6pm on Fri. After asking for a manager, I was directed to the store manager at ************. He seemed to understand my frustration and told the staff to just waive the fee. Five minutes later the staff said their boss had said no. I asked to speak to her and was told she was unreachable at a Christmas Party but had replied to them by text. One of the staff also seemed greatly offended that I would even question having to pay the upcharge fee or suggest they should honor my appointment even if it required them to work OT. At ~6:20, the Doc came out and after speaking to the staff told me it was a policy to mandate imaging. I again respectfully questioned why it was not in any of the communications and then referenced the electronic forms that their office emailed prior to my appointment which showed it as an upcharge option. I also noted this policy was not posted anywhere online or in their office. I told her if she wanted to make my appointment faster and do the retina imaging that was fine, but I shouldn't be required to pay for it. I was then told they wouldn't move fwd with my appt but could reschedule. I later emailed Dr. D***** per his business card explaining my experience but never got a response.
