I had a fatal experience with a pet boarding facilty over Spring Break 2022. I boarded my diabetic cat after speaking with the faciltiy about her insulin.. They told me they would contact my vet to confirm all information they needed. I dropped off my kitty at 10:00 pm and went over the dose of 3 units of insulin twice a day. I told them all that was in the bag I brought in which included the diabetci food, the insulin pen and needles. They took the bag and handed me paperwork. We then went in together to place her on her area. I received a call the next morning at 10:00 am that my kitty had appeared to have had a seizure. This has never happened since her diagnosis in 2021. I asked the girl on the phone to take her to my vet since we are 4 hours out of town. Within 20 minutes, my vet calls me and tells me my kitty is dying. They were unable to get a reading of her glucose numbers because they were so low, Her heart rate was super fast and her blood pressure had bottomed out. They did all they could but could not get her stable for more than a few minutes before her glucose sugars would go dangerously low. It was decided we needed to put her down and this had to done over Facetime. I contacted the facilty a few days later and was told they were out of town. I call again the following week and spoke to the owner and requested a face to face. We discovered my kitty was overdosed with 13 units of insulin instead of 3 units after meeting with the owner and his staff. The pharmacy had covered up the numbers with a patient label but if you are familiar with the insulin device, this would become evident. I was told by the owner that his staff are not familiar with this device but only the preloaded syringes. I told him than why did Noone call me to discuss instead of just trying to figure out and over inject my kitty. The owner apologized and offered to pay my vet bill and insulin pen. I have now been contacted by the pharmacy that the owner wants them to pay him back.
