Had my solar system installed in November 2022. In January 2024, after a rain storm, front porch ceiling started to sag, along with brown spots in the celing of my pantry. Contacted Obsidian Solar, and they came out in Jan, 2024 and replaced front porch ceiling, and advised me that they had repaired the pantry celing as well. This was due to the bolts that were used to put on the solar panels on my roof were not properly sealed correctly/ or not sealed at all. April, 2024, had another rain storm, and again my pantry ceiling has brown spots from leakage. Have attempted to contact Obisidian Solar multiple times, with no call back or text reply. I am not sure now how much damage has been done.

I purchased a solar system from Obsidian Solar Owner ********************* in May 2022. The install began a few months later. The system was never fully functional and one crew after another tried to fix it and this is only after I had to repeatedly call **** to fix my is**** Finally the system became functional in March 2024 with city of *********** passing it for use. Three panels on my roof, part of the entire system I purchased, are not registering. I called the office manager **** who said he was trying to work on it this was mid March 2024. Well over a month has passed since I was told **** was getting me the information, with no contact after many follow up messages, until today April 30, 2024, when I finally tried all the numbers I could find for Obsidian Solar, no one from the company answered and I made contact, accidentally, with a former employee who said the business is having issues and many people have complained and tried to **** I am hoping to get my system running 100% I am going to have someone else help me. I am sure it will be expensive since they did not install the system.

We scheduled installation for solar panels in January 2024, and the installation still isn't complete. Obsidian reported to both Service Finance and *************************** Electric Cooperative that it was completed as of March 1, 2024. When GCEC came on March 4, 2024 to connect our service they notified us that the system was not on and couldn't be connected. When we contacted Obsidian, they said that the installation was NOT complete, and they were waiting on several parts. Meanwhile, our sales contact at Obsidian quit and we have had a lot of trouble getting through to them to verify the status of our installation. Our contact at the installation sub-contractor communicated that they were still waiting on another part. That part arrived last week and we were told that the sub-contractor would be out on Sunday, April 21, 2024 to attach the remaining part. He never showed. When we got through to him yesterday he said that Obsidian hasn't paid him for the work completed so far, so he is waiting for them to pay him before he installs the final piece. Meanwhile, we lodged a complaint with Service Finance because we have had to make two payments on our non-functional system because they were told it was completed. So I'm paying for something I can't use. Obsidian is the worst contractor I have ever used--and I built an entire house acting as the General Contractor. The contact numbers on their website are non-functional so you can't get through to anyone to find out the status of anything. I want Obsidian to pay their subcontractor so we can get the final piece installed and the system operational. I'd also like a refund of the $700 we've paid Service Finance for a supposedly finished system that hasn't worked yet.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 06/07/2024

The work was finally completed this week because Service Finance, the company holding the loan for the installation, contacted Obsidian and the sub-contractor who was the installer and worked out for the sub-contractor to come finish the installation. As of today, it seems to be working but I won't be able to tell until we get our next month's electric bill. I do appreciate Service Finance following through on this.

NOTE: I would still never recommend Obsidian Solar as a contractor for solar installation or anything else.

Hi,I have got REC Solar panels installed by Obsidian Solar. We were three neighbors got installed and as Obsidian promised contractually that they provide 25 years warranty with an insurance company. My neighbors received the document but they did not provide the same to me and they did not provide any manufacturer (REC) warranty documentation too. All I need is that warranty from insurance company as well as REC panel purchase docs or manufacturer warranty documentation. Thanks,Gopal

Obsidian Solar came to my home and informed me that Obsidian Solar could install solar panels on my roof that would cover my full power bills, except a small portion 3 months out of the year. The only payment I would have would be the solar panels, and the small portion that the solar would not cover for 3 months of the year. On 11/22/2023 Obsidian Solar installed solar panels on my roof, since then the solar panels have been installed, I have received my full power bill with about a credit around $10.00 that the solar panels are providing. I am now paying most of my power bill, in addition to the payment for the solar panels. We were told that they panels were generating power as they were intended but we were again told that the power we generated would pay for the power used for all except 3 months of the year. I have emailed, texted, and called Obsidian Solar, they have responded a couple of times, stating they will reach out to me, but they never do. I was told one thing and it appears that they delivered something completely different.

In 11/23 our solar panels were installed. We were counseled by the a rep from Obsidian Solar that the amount of energy produced by the installed solar panels would offset out monthly power bill on average $162 a month. To date our biggest credit provided by the solar panels has been $25.00. This is a far cry from the $162 average discussed.

Per our conversations with the engery consultant leading up to the installation of the solar panels we were lead to believe the amount of energy produced by the solar panels would by and large would lower our monthly power bills to offset the cost of the panels themselves. The panels were installed in Nov 23 and since then the largest credit has only been $25. I am now paying most of my utilty bill, and the bill for the solar panels.

I hired Obsidian Solar to install my inverters and Batteries, when ************ filed bankruptcy and couldn't finish the job. Now Obsidian Solar is not finishing their job, either. I have contacted the *********** ***************** even Project Managers so I can get contact with any person that can help me with the most simple issue. It seems that Obsidian Solar did not link our inverters to the correct account, or maybe they didn't do a site transfer to even create an account for us. But our Inverters are not linked to our account, or our electrical meter, or our electrical account. So all of the solar power that is being produced by our $130,000 system is not being harnessed by our meter, all because one person has not done their job properly. Or in fact, multiple people have not done their jobs properly. And the solution from Solar Edge (The Inverter Manufacturer) is so simple, to just contact them with the case number that we have provided to them, and then they could take the proper steps to identify which is our correct account, or whether they even created one. My electrical bill is between $500-600 every month, and it is because my meter isn't even connected to my solar panels at all! I feel like I have been scammed. I have 63 Solar Panels on my roof, and my electrical in my house is still not using ANY of the power that the panels are creating. Obsidian Solar needs contact Solar Edge with the case number, and resolve this, because the issue obviously lies with them. How do you not have the capability to do a site transfer, when it takes 30 seconds on the internet.

I have called and left several messages with Obsidian Solar regarding my solar panels not working and no one is calling me back about this issue. I have had this issue several times from this company. During the summer of 2023 the wind blow off one on my panels and it took me 2 months to get a hold of someone with Obsidian to come out and fix the panel. when the repair man came out to the house he stated that the reason that the panel blew off is because they where not installed correctly on the ends. I have been trying to get a hold of someone with Obsidian Solar for the last couple of weeks with no return calls. My panels are not producing any energy and I have paid way too much money for these panels for them not to be working. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I have only had these panels for a year now and continue to have issue with this company since the beginning of the install.
