I hired America's Construction Company 3 weeks ago (April 26th) to repair 2 patio pillars that were in need of repair because of water damage. The stucco on the pillars and the beam that was sustaining the balcony had minimal water damage on the surface of the stucco. The estimate that was quoted was $2500.00 for labor only. I proceeded to hire them so they can fix the 2 patios and apply Durarock to existing pillars and apply decorative stone. The owner, *********************** used two of his hourly payroll workers to repair the damage. They explained to me that there was too much water damage, and they would have to reinforce the main beam that was sustaining the balcony. I agreed for them to do the job, so they proceeded to purchase the material needed to do the job at hand. They purchased two planks of wood 2x6 or 4x4 to fasten using 3 long screws to secure them between the beam that had water damage. At first one the workers suggested to leave the wood as it is without covering it with stucco and I disagreed with the suggestion because it would not blend with the rest of the stucco. He reluctantly proceeded to follow my instructions and installed the stucco on both sides of the beam. They lasted 3 weeks to complete the job as they were some change orders during the process. The job was completed May 6th in the afternoon. As I was reviewing the job site ( 5/202023) because we had approximately 3 days of rain downpour in recent past days, I noticed 3 cracks that were running alongside of the bottom beam of the balcony. The cracks were about 1 to 2 inches in diameter which were also deep into the wooden beam. I then called *********************** to report what had happened. He responded nonchalantly, " Just paint over it and the cracks will disappear." I responded back, " The cracks are deep into the wooden beam and the paint will not fix the problem. " He insisted that the paint will fix it and that he cannot do anything about the issue. I calmly told him that he needs to return back to the job site and fix the problem as soon as possible. He refused and he told me that I cannot pay the two workers anymore days because they were done. Then I told them that this was their responsibility to fix the problem and they had to pay for the material to do it. He responded with I cannot do anything about it because they considered the job done. As we went back and forth with the conversation, he suggested that for me to purchase the material to fix it and that he will send the workers back to fix it. I went back to see the work done and I noticed that there were 3 small holes that were not covered when the sprayed the stucco onto the top beam. I realized that the water entered the inside off the stucco causing the beam to expand and making the wide cracks on the stucco. With this apparent fact in mind, the whole beams need to be removed and redo the whole reinforcement of the balcony. The evidence shows that they did not seal the beams and did not do a thorough job covering the entire beam with the cement and stucco. Which brings me to the conclusion that they were not proficient with their job.
