Received a misleading mailer purporting to be a ********* Health Plan Update." It suggested I may not be getting all the ******** benefits I am entitled to. Asked for my name, my spouse's name, home and cell phones, and email. I looked up the mailing address and found it was that of a direct marketing firm called "Lead Concepts." They are phishing for information through the **** Mail. In the fine print at the very bottom it does mention that it is "Not affiliated with any government agency. An agent may contact you. Insurance related solicitation." But that disclaimer does not belie the misleading solicitation. It looks official.

This company has sent several letters misrepresenting my home mortgage lender in an attempt to offer me low-cost ************************ It looks like it is an offer from my bank, which it is not. They do not identify their company on the letter or on the return envelope, nor do they provide contact details. This is an insurance scam preying on people who think this is a legitimate offer from their lending institution. This is a deceptive, unethical business practice, and I would not be surprised if it was fraudulent in every way.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/17/2024

    ******************,

I apologize the advertisements you received have upset you. We work with insurance agents wanting to help consumers. It is not anyone's intention to deceive. In fact the agent of record is on the bottom of the letter. I have added your name to our list so you will not receive mailings from us in the future.

    thank you,

    Customer Answer

    Date: 06/17/2024

I am rejecting this response because: You list "Information provided by X", you do not clearly identify that person as the insurance agent of record. Nor do you give a way to contact them and verify that this isn't just a way to phish personal information. The return envelope goes back to your company, not the insurance agent you list. Your address was how I found you, but you are not even honest enough to put your company name on the envelope. Your company engages in deceptive and unethical business tactics that would not surprise me if they were fraudulent. I feel bad for any consumer who is tricked into giving your company their personal information. Any insurance agent who uses these tactics is shady. An ethical agent would want their information transparent and clearly stated to potential customers. I will also be filing a complaint against the agent of record; Al *** ***** for using your services to contact people with deceptive tactics.

I am sorry ****************** you feel this way. Lead Concepts has been in business over 30 years. We are not fraudulent nor unethical, only want to help our customers. Again, you will not receive anything from us in the future. We wish you well.

    thank you,

    Customer Answer

    Date: 06/20/2024

I am rejecting this response because: Your customer is the person who paid you to send out deceptive junk mail. Thank you for admitting that the people you are soliciting with "Final Notices" are not who you care about. I have reported your "customer" to the **** for violating insurance advertising regulations. I would encourage others to do the same when receiving any correspondence from your company, or your customers.

"Lead Concepts" has quite a few complaints against them and with good reason. My wife received a letter asking for *** (Personally identifiable information) to be mailed to the company with no clear indication who it was from, no return address, no company name. The letter is completely blank on the outside except for my wife's name and address and an unattributed "Postage Paid" designation. The letter is soliciting the recipients name, phone numbers, and spouse for the purpose of selling ******** *********** ********* (which is more restrictive and costs the government more than actual ********). They choose to completely hide who they are. Furthermore, they use the name "********" 9 times in bold, large, or medium font, and only in the smaller print (noted in earlier complaints), they provide the "not affiliated with the gov't" disclaimer along with 2 "medicare.gov" URLs. I would like to say that I don't understand why Lead Concepts wants to hide who they are when sending this type of letter, but it is actually clear. If people knew who was sending it, they wouldn't be intimidated into replying to the veiled threats in the enclosed card.Attached: page 1 Front of envelopes. Page 2 back of envelopes. Pages 3-4 the letter/card.I don't understand why they are afraid to identify themselves in their communications.NOTE: BBB should realize that they are requiring PII in the complaint so their "Submission Terms" aren't quite accurate when they say to not include PII in the complaint Step 1.

    Business Response

    Mr. ***********,
I apologize if you feel the information your wife received was not accurate. Lead Concepts is a direct mail company working with insurance agents wanting to help prospects learn more about their insurance options. Our intent is not to hide or be deceitful in any way. I have removed your wife's information, and she will not receive any more mail from us in the future.
    thank you,
    Lead Concepts

    Customer Answer

    Date: 02/29/2024

I am rejecting this response because:   I do not believe the response is in good faith.  There are quite a few companies that, as Lead Concepts says, are "working with insurance agents wanting to help prospects learn more about their insurance options" but that _clearly_ identify the name of their company and their relationship with with ******** (not buried in loosely worded footnotes).  I suggest looking up "The ******** Family" or "******** Mama" on ******* to see a good model for presenting a desire to let prospects learn more about insurance options.

I also realize that my rejecting their response carries little weight in the grand scheme of things because, I am certain, they have studied regulations and associated loopholes so that they have probably skirted carefully around any actionable issues whilst completely ignoring the intent of those regulations.

The fact that they have removed my wife's name simply means that they will not be reaching out to somebody that already knows about their deceitful practices and this does nothing to stop them from keeping on doing what they are doing.  They are not a "better business" and I am sure they know it and sleep peacefully at night, regardless.

Am inundated with misleading post cards, pamphlets notifying me of my ******** Initial Election. The front of the envelope, left corner in bold ******** Initial Election Update, In all, it requests personal details.verify my address, my spouse.Inside right bottom corner in a black box with white lettering Initial Election Enrollment Period in center in bold ******** Initial Election Period Request Card. All imply this is a formal request for for details from ********. So much so, that only when you look much closer in very small basic font (not bold, like all those areas the sender is requesting detail) it states Not affiliated with any government agency. An agent may contact you. Insurance related solicitation. HOW ***** can you get?!!!! They are fishing for contact details to sell to insurance companies the receiver does not know, nor might care to interact! By filling out the form the receiver ultimately gives up legal rights to privacy by allowing those confirmed details to be SOLD by this marketing firm, to ******** addendum insurers!!!! No where in this notice or all others sent, does it say You are not obligated to fill out. Nor does it state the receiver will be reimbursed for the lead this mailer might generate!!! I want this company to REMOVE ALL my details from their mailing system!! ALL!!! I do not want any more contact/spam/junk mail from this marketing company EvER!!! You DO NOT HAVE MY APPROVAL TO SELL/OFFER/SHARE my details with ANY entity you are marketing to/for/contracted. All interactions will cease. Its a wonder they have not been hit with a class action law suit for these shady mailings. They are preying on those who do not see their walking the fine line of implication.

I am on the Federal Opt-Out for junk mail/scam mailing/advertising mail, etc., yet this company found out my maiden name (which I haven't used since ****) and got around the Opt-Out mailing. This is fraudulent!

    Customer Answer

    Date: 10/28/2023

The "Monthly Shopper (themonthlyshoppers.com)" continues to send me mail even though I have contacted them on 3 separate occasions explaining to them that I am on the ****OUT list. They know I am on the Government ****OUT list, yet they ignore that list, and they ignore my requests to stop mailing me. They told me via phone call that it would take 3 months to remove me from their mailing list. Well, it has been over 9 months and several phone calls and they continue to send weekly mailers to me.

I received a letter from this company asking for my name, spouses name, phone number and email. It looked to me like it was going to send me information regarding filing for ******** next year when I turn 65. It appeared official, like it was from the government as it was labeled; ******** INITIAL ELECTION UPDATE.
