On November 8, 2024, I traded in my 2021 Honda Accord SE, which was in excellent condition, at David McDavid Honda of Irving. I purchased a 2016 Honda CRV from the dealership in good faith, trusting their representation of the vehicle’s condition. Before purchasing, I performed a test drive and inspected the vehicle to the best of my ability. I specifically asked the salesman, Ray *******, whether the CRV had any oil leaks. He assured me there were none. My concern arose because the engine bay was unusually clean for an older vehicle, suggesting either routine detailing or a concealed issue. I did not have the opportunity to inspect the underside of the vehicle for leaks, as the CRV was not parked with other used cars visible to the public. Shortly after purchase, the check engine light came on after only three trips. A diagnostic test at AutoZone revealed a mass airflow sensor issue. I informed the dealership of the problem and dropped o? the vehicle for inspection. Without disclosing my prior diagnostic results, the dealership confirmed the mass airflow sensor issue and replaced the part free of charge. After getting the CRV back, I noticed small oil spots under the driver’s side of the vehicle in my parking space. I called the dealership to report the issue and spoke with Ray ******* and his manager, Alex. Ray attempted to persuade me to trade the CRV in for another vehicle. When I pressed further, Alex agreed to inspect the CRV but cautioned that they could not guarantee repairs. Before taking the vehicle back to David McDavid Honda on November 18, 2024, I visited my local Honda dealership, **** ****** Honda in ***** ******** *****, for a pre-inspection of the issue. Their service department immediately identified an oil leak originating from the rear main seal, located between the engine and... please see attached document for the rest of the story since the character limit is running out.Customer Answer

Allen ****** the GM called and left me a voicemail on 12/21/2024. I called him back; it didn't ring long before my call was sent to voicemail. No call back so far, still waiting. Remind you, this complaint was made on 12/2/2024.
Also, it has been exactly 45 days after the sale of my vehicle, and I haven't received the title. I called the DMV and Tax Collector offices for both Tarrant and Dallas Counties. They say it is still pending from the dealership's end.Business Response

This customer purchased this vehicle as-is and although he was offered a warranty, he declined. As a courtesy and after the purchase, we fixed an air flow sensor and an oil leak at no cost to the customer. Our GM reached out to him to address his concerns and offer to discount the service that he is needing. If he hasn't spoken with him yet, he can reach out to Alan ****** at ***** ********. Thank you.Customer Answer
Date: 12/23/2024
I am rejecting this response because: What oil leak did you fix? You must not read the whole complaint. Also, why do a need a discount on a service issue that you supposedly fixed? Here is an image taken today (12/23/2024) of the oil leak your service team so-called fixed. You never addressed my refund from the final payoff amount of my car and I still haven't got my title. Please read my whole complaint statement again before you give another response.Business Response

After playing phone tag with the GM over the Christmas holiday, I finally spoke with Alan on the phone today. Unfortunately, no progress was made regarding this case. Alan, much like his car salesman manager, Alex, continues to refuse to acknowledge that their service department is either incompetent or deliberately playing ignorant about the rear main seal issue in the Honda CR-V they sold me.
The GM was snarky during the conversation, making comments like, “Well, we are in the business of making profit,” when I pointed out how they likely made a significant profit off my trade-in, plus the extra $2,500 they asked for. I explained to him that this left me without a budget to repair the CR-V’s rear main seal. He then implied that they sold the CR-V at $10,000 as a "budget-friendly option so it could get fixed." This only strengthens my belief that they were aware of the issue when they sold me the vehicle. A 2016 CR-V doesn’t typically sell for $2,000 below KBB value unless something is wrong with it.
Alan also claimed that the dealership doesn’t sell dangerous cars or vehicles with engine issues. I reminded him of the recording where Alex said the same thing, which only highlights their inconsistency. This conversation was another complete waste of time.
I’ve already consulted two lawyers who confirmed that I have a case. Once I get the necessary repairs done, I will send a DTPA (Deceptive Trade Practices Act) demand letter to the dealership outlining my losses. If they fail to respond, I am prepared to file a small claims court case.
Alan kept insisting that I bring the CR-V back for their service team to inspect it and offered a reduced repair rate. However, I am not comfortable allowing their service department to touch my vehicle again, especially after they “repaired” an issue that didn’t need fixing in the first place. Alan continued to tout the fact that they’ve already made two repairs to the vehicle, but conveniently ignored that the oil pan repair wasn’t even necessary.
I’m done wasting my time with this dealership. BBB you can close this case.Customer Answer

I submitted an application online for a 2020 Honda Civic. I received approval instantly and a agent from the store called and stated they would start getting the car ready. As soon as I arrived I was told there was some changes needed to my credit app and a finance agent would come to me. He approaches me and says well my application was denied it was a glitch in the system and he would have to get me approved for another car. This was never stated on the phone they waited until I took a Lyft and they took my $500. I am livid because I took my lunch break only for them to say I must put more down and they will get my $500 whenever. This is not acceptable I want my money back.Business Response

I went to purchase a vehicle they had listed online for ****** on July 1, 2024.i arrived to test drive an 2015 ***** Colorado *** I had my own financing before arriving to the dealer. I asked to test drive the truck in question. They had me to wait inside until they could get the keys for the vehicle. I was summoned to come outside and the vehicle in question was already running with the keys inside before I came outside. I test drove the vehicle and drove fine I didnt notice any leaks or lights on the dash. While negotiating the price I saw an extra charge that said reconditioning fee that was an extra ***** on to the price. **** agreed to drop this fee. My bank received the purchase order and I paid cash for the remainder. Which came to ******. They wouldnt let me leave with the vehicle that day and said they would deliver the vehicle to my home. Well that didnt happen. On July 4, 2024 I called and was told I could pick up the vehicle. About 4 days later I came outside to drive the vehicle. Both Key fobs were unresponsive neither would unlock or lock the vehicle. I changed both batteries and yet I still couldnt gain access to the vehicle. I used the key and the alarm started going crazy. I immediately called *************** the sales consultant and brought the vehicle back to the dealer. He claimed they never had that problem and he agreed to pay for the repairs the truck would need at an ***** dealer. I had a cruise booked so I wasnt able to leave the car at that moment and told him I would leave it at a dealer up on my return. I returned home on aug 10th. I tried to call them on that day and no one would pick up the phone or return my calls. I decided on Aug 12 to drive up to the dealership. Up on arrival the truck displayed another error. TPMS needs servicing. They fiddled around with the key fob then proceeded to tell me that now its as is and they would no longer honor their agreement to pay for the repairs. I took it to *****. They found 6 error codes.Customer Answer

Greetings BBB, upon receipt of this complaint we have worked with the customer to get his vehicle back in. It was diagnosed as needing a lock actuator and we are taking care of this. Any questions, please reach out to our General Manager, ********************* at **************. Thank you.Customer Answer

I actually took the car to a ***** dealer. That actuator may address one of those codes. But what about the other 5 codes it was displaying? The main code that concerns me is control module communication chassis expansion can bus off. I graduated from a science and engineering magnet. So my knowledge may be a little off. But code U0077 concerns the *** body control module this module controls everything in the vehicle from door locks, air conditioning, brakes, TPMS. The print out I received from ***** showed a history of harness problems and shorts to speakers and other things. I also noticed the coolant level in the reservoir depleting faster than it should. All things thats could be co trolled by the ***. I left the extra paper inside the truck in the center console so Im not able to send that paper as well at the moment.Customer Answer

Have done some research. Its the Remote function actuator the actuator in question? Whats causing this part to burn out. The history of the car shows something like this replaced before. Are we sure there arent any shorts? This video is displaying the issues I experienced. ************************************************Business Response

Customer's truck will be completed today and the we will be delivering to him.Customer Answer
Date: 09/09/2024
I am rejecting this response because: My concerns were not addressed. While they did manage to get the door locks to function after doing the bare minimum by installing an actuator and trying to rush the vehicle back to me. That did not in fact fix the problem. Turns out the *** was bad after all. Which they found out while trying to rush the truck to me during their last response. They sent a guy to retrieve the truck and he wasnt able to use the clickers or the keys to gain access to the vehicle which prompted the *** change. The coolant reservoir is almost completely empty. There is a hose loose under the hood. Heater in the car only works while the truck is moving. Im also a certified HVAC tech. So I know the coolant isnt supposed to disappear. Since there are no leaks under the truck. It leads me to believe the heads are blown on the inside of the engine and coolant could be getting burned inside the engine and exiting out of the tail pipe and hasnt thrown a code yet or the codes have been reset. I was supposed be getting vehicle that was free of major issues. That hasnt turned out to be the case.Customer Answer

Date: 09/10/2024
I am now satisfied that they will not do the right thing. They offered to buy the truck back. But that was another scam. They told me that they were offering ****** which is only the balance of the loan I took out. This was short of the ****** I was charged. Then to find out they were only offering ****** trade in for the truck they just sold to me for ******. They were trying to cheat me out of the ***** cash I gave them and Also trying to roll thousands into a new loan with ***** interest. My current loan is 6.6 interest. They delayed and dragged out repairs so I could have the car under my name longer like I had access to the truck for all this time. I got the truck home for 2 days noticed all these problems and immediately contacted them. They let days pass before they even offered to try to fix the existing problems with the truck that they hid from me. They then kept the truck for over a month. Only to address one issue. The electrical issues. Issues which if I would have been made aware of. I would have never purchased this vehicle. At this point I am satisfied that they can not be trusted. Manager even tried to suggest that the issues they hid that the truck had prior to them selling me the vehicle to be routine maintenance. The vehicle they were trying to sell me after low balling me was a truck with *******+. The truck I bought previously only had ****** miles. They were also trying to get me into a loan for ******+. I googled and found that this was too high as well as I showed them identical trucks for sale with only ****** miles for the exact same price and lower for identical vehicles. After running my credit multiple times and lowering my credit score they discovered that their lender wouldnt grant the outrages amount they were trying to trick me into accepting. Why on earth would I take a ***** loss because u sold me a lemon you certified as a A one problem free vehicle that was riddled with codes. Mainly electrical codes. I left and took the truck to a certified ***** dealer which couldnt find any solid records of the repairs they claimed they had ***** to do. I wasnt provided with any paper work to verify or have a warranty record in case the *** problems returned. The ***** dealer did notice that the vehicle had signs of previous coolant leaks. But that it was not currently leaking and removed the reservoir tank cap and check the coolant level and said it was normal after all the coolant returned because of the cap removal. I am satisfied that they have wasted enough time to have me stuck with the truck. I am satisfied that they wont do the right thing. As time after time they have gave me false statements and false promises only to return to the its sold as is statement knowing they werent truthful. The truck they were trying to beat me on with the low trade also had previous collision damage yet they were trying to sell it as a damage free vehicle at top price.

Here is the short version. The Civic I purchased on 4/6 had a cigarette smell, I was convinced and pushrd by ***** and **** that they would smoke bomb and detail it and it would alleviate the strong smell. We took it home and looked at the cabin filter which was absolutely disgusting, like a ashtray. I took photos of the filter. No one at the dealership changed it. I was promised a detail and smoke bomb by **** and *****. I took the vehicle back in. They said they smoked bombed it and aired it out. It did nothing and the did not detail it as discussed. I had asked for the seats and carpets to be cleaned, that was not done. I told them I have allergies and ILD Lung Disease and told them this, I have documentation of this illness. The smell is still awful and throughout the car. On hot days it is even worse I would not have bought this vehicle had I not been convinced by them it would be detailed and the smoke smell removed. The smell is even worse on warm days and I'm forced to roll the windows down because it's in the vents too. I'm currently out 500 plus dollars trying to get the smoke oder out of the vehicle which really bothers my lungs. They are not responding to me now.Business Response

I went in on 04/09 for an oil change and a safety inspection. On arrival I sat in my car til my 1:30 appt while everyone around me ignored me. When someone finally came to my window the service guy asked who my warranty was under and started listing off names. I then showed him my recall letter. He took it and said he was going to call for parts. When he returned all he said to me is if I'm not having trouble with my a/c now to bring my car back when I do. Then he proceeds to shove his clipboard in my face to fill out my information I said can't you look it up after filling in my name and number. ********* change was completed car was not washed. Now today my a/c is having issues. I called recall at this dealership i was advised I need to make an appt. To get it looked at. I ALREADY DID THAT!!!! what makes me upset is I took preventative steps and was shoved a side like my Honda paperwork wasn't valid. Then treated like c*** after voicing my frustrations. I literally showed the letter that was mailed to me. I'm beyond upset and know this is NOT how this should of been handled. No I apologize for your inconvenience or anything. The manager wanted to make a point that there was any recalls just for the fuel injector. That wasn't checked either i was treated like dirt and pushed aside my concerns didn't matter. This needed to be reported for the unprofessionalism and illegal handling of a recall/ warranty ext. To be told to wait til something happens to my a/c is absolutely absurdBusiness Response

I purchase a used Honda pilot(2017) on October 12 after dark. I had a recommendation to to the transmission flush and when I got the first opportunity to do I did. A week to the day later the car stopped in traffic I initially thought it was the gas saving feature except this time in rush hour traffic I was standing in the middle of the road for more than an hour flagging traffic to avoid it being hit. Hazard lights and all the lights on the dash were working. But not on the part to put it into park drive or neutral. So soon a couple of police officers came to help and were trying vigorously to get the vehicle out of traffic. So one of them managed to take the negative battery cable off and reset the computer, and the turn on like nothing happened and I drove it off the road. Left it running so when the tow truck came it wouldnt be difficult to load. This is not my everyday vehicle but I drive this particular day as I was getting it ready for a road trip. Now I will have to get a rental car. The day as I waited for it to be checked I got an almost $5,000. diagnosis of the problems with a car I just had for 3 months that I purchased at a big named dealership. What is disturbing is one part that is nearly &***** and with labor $2,000. Which apparently is something that should be a recall or at least something that should be cover under the warranty I was given. They have 50 on order, and 43 cars already waiting for the part with no ETA on when the part will be in. I was offered to buy another more expensive car and be more indebted. I am a widow trying not to be homeless and yet this situation may actually cause that to happen. I will give the part 2 months of paying for a vehicle I dont have but after that I will have to let it be repossessed to try to keep living.Business Response

Date: Aug 2023 . I recently traded in a 2018 ****** RAV4 for a 2021 ****** rogue. At the moment I drove off the lot the car started to mess up. I attempted to take the car back and was told I could not get my car back unless I paid them close to $3000. I was manipulated and basically threatened to keep the ******. Its going on one month that I have had this ****** and stuff is literally falling off the car. The bumper is falling a part. They said they would fix it but damaged it even more. I was told that this car had a minor accident that only required them to fix a small scratch. After taking this car to a mechanic, I was informed that the bumper had been replaced and the work was not adequate. They would not let me leave when I said no. I told the salesman that I wanted to take a day to think it over, and he would not give me my keys back. Instead, he began to bring out papers for me to sign. I told him I did not want to sign anything because I had not made my mind up yet. He informed me that it was necessary for them to continue to look for someone to approve the loan for me. After researching I realize that it was a sales tactic to keep me there. I have sent proof of the car not working from day one. I even showed footage in person to ******* and a sales manager.Business Response

Ms. **********;has brought her car in several times and we have provided a loaner at her request each time, although we were unable to find the issue with the vehicle. Records show that she has put over 600 miles on our loaner vehicles on two occasions. Additionally, she left the keys to her recent loaner at the reception desk and we immediatelydiscovered that she left the vehicle with significant damage. When we contacted her, she completely denied of being aware of such damages and claimed she was in a hurry and that's why she left the keys at the reception desk instead of leaving the vehicle and key with the proper departmet. We have gone above and beyond to assist this customer, only to be left with a damaged vehicle.
