On May 24th of 2024 we entered into an agreement with Life Roofing and Construction to rebuild our home after it was hit and destroyed by a tornado. They have left our home incomplete and also damaged new cabinets that they replaced and they are taking advantage of home owners and are making fraudulent charges to my insurance on claims they state are completed which are not. They are also charging my insurance for materials that were also not performed. We have made multiple requests on different occasions to meet with our contractor ***** and the regional manager ******* to come out to our property to inspect the work that has been performed and work that we are dissatisfied with to rectify the situation and still to this day we have not been able to meet and they will not respond to us agreeing to meet to inspect the damages that have occurred and were inflicted by his workers that he hired to repair our house. They make appointments with us and then cancel the day of the scheduled appointment with no resolution and no efforts to reschedule the appointment. Cabinets and granite were installed incorrectly despite our multiple request to have rectified prior to proceeding. Tragic treatment of our beloved dog ****. Myself and my insurance company combined has paid them over ****** dollars and our contractor ***** is still unwilling to meet.Business response

The original work began in May - this was a full remodel. The insurance company had not paid out anything at that point. We moved the client out of their home, at our cost - still not approved by insurance of paid by the client. We worked for MONTHS - with ZERO payment, knowing that working with insurance and the claimants mortgage company, we would get paid. Before we received a single *****, our company completed the following:
Full R&R of exterior siding, trim and soffit
Full exterior painting
Interior doors repainted
Removal and replacement of two windows on the front elevation of the home
Full chimney rebuild, siding and trim installed, water sealed and painted.
FULL Class 3 IR ROOF INSTALLED
Full fence rebuild
Full replacement of AC unit
Garage drywall replaced
Full tare out of drywall, baseboards and insulation.
Replacement of drywall, insulation and baseboards
Full painting of interior
Removal and replacement of flooring throughout the home - FREE upgrade
Tare out of the damaged kitchen cabinetry and countertops Plumbing work light fixtures installed Ceiling Fan installed
On 7/2/2024, we finally received a payment of $40,000.00 and $26,409.21 on the invoice. This came only AFTER your mortgage company came and inspected the work and agreed that 90% of the TOTAL SCOPE OF WORK WAS COMPLETED, SATISFACTORY.
We then worked with you on the kitchen cabinets, the old cabinetry was builder grade, we had to switch, the claimant agreed to the cabinetry we installed. They did question the height of the upper cabinets, but we did discuss the concerns and the home owner decided that they did not want the upper cabinets moved.
We then offered to finance the upgrade amount for the new countertops. Instead of going back on with the laminated particle board, we gave options of Quartz, to which the home owner chose ****** 3CM, EASED EDGE. We came out to measure for the countertops and make a diagram. Shortly after, the homeowner bought a new sink. We then came back out a second time to view the sink, discuss the placement and create a new diagram, to which the home owner signed off on. After the fabrication and installation of the Quartz, and the drop in of the sink, the home owner was not happy with the sink. This issue is - it is a custom sink and therefore required a custom cut in. The home owner tried to find a new sink of their liking but couldn't, due to the original cut in being a custom size. ONLY AFTER THIS- They began expressing being dissatisfied with the overall cut of the counter tops and began sending over other final walk items we need to fix. Some to which have not been approved by insurance and have never been on the contract or insurance claim. (full screen replacement and a full replacement of the water softener system) They even had an unknown woman call our office and demand to know the status of the job. They told this woman false information about the progress and failed to mention that they had a play in the delay of the job. We had to wait for choice of cabinets, choice of quartz, choice of backsplash, no payment for months, ect.
The dissatisfaction of the client truly lies in the sink. Our company will not pay to replace an entire slab of quartz because the home owner no longer likes the sink she chose. We have responded to all questions and attempted to come out to complete the final touches of the job. Microwave installation, drywall touch up, straighten of a light fixture. The home owner said that they will no longer be working with us and will be getting their kitchen "redone" in two weeks. At that point, we had a supplemental still in play with their insurance adjuster, which we have been working for months, the above final touches to complete, the garage door on order (which our company paid for upon ordering) and collection of final payment.
As a small business, we have no other option to file for a lien. The home owner is upset, however, we were willing to complete the final touches, even prior to receiving final payment. We would not be able to obtain a lien without proof being submitted to the county. The home owner mentioned their "resolution" was to remove the lien - we will not, unless paid accordingly. We have completed 99.9% of the job, we have only been paid for a portion. We have revised the invoice to reflect multiple discounts and credits, including the vet bills for their dog, as they mentioned. When one of our contractors entered the home, he let the dog out on accident. We agreed to cover this cost, as we stated to the home owner. I cannot issue payment on an account which has a standing balance to this degree. We have issued a credit on their final invoice, this has been noted with the county as well.Customer response

Complaint: 22501771
I am rejecting this response because:
The original work began after the tornado hit in ********* on May 22nd of 2024.
Your company started work on May 28th with water mitigation. Our first payment to your company was on July 2nd of $40,000.00. So your statement of "months without payment" is a complete over exaggeration of the truth. Your company received a payment exactly 35 days, 1 month and 5 days after starting the job.
Your account of work also done in that time frame is also inaccurate. The work that was done in that 1 month and 5 days was interior demo of kitchen and living area with partial master bedroom walls and one wall and ceiling of the front guest bedroom, removal of debris, demo of exterior siding and partial exterior replacement. The rest of the work was continued after the 1st payment. With a second payment of ********* almost exactly one month from acquiring the first initial payment with still a half done job. So let me reiterate your company did not go "MONTHS" without payment.
Your response is nothing but lies and inaccuracies. We had a discussion over the cabinets being placed too high and you, our contractor, stated that they were placed at standard height. When Benji came to meet with us at the property to inspect the home on September 17th, for our first meeting he then in fact informed us that he had the cabinets moved down "a few inches". Not only did we discuss the cabinets, but the upper trim on the cabinets being broken, the sloppy texture and paint job, the outlets being covered by sheet rock. He assured us that they would be dealt with and fixed.
Your repeated use of the term "we came out" is also inaccurate. Any and all work completed was performed by a "handy man" and our contractor was not present nor watched over the work being performed. The "tree service" man, per the sign on the side of his truck, did not know plumbing, electrical, or cabinetry placement.
We received two left cabinets on the stove side and they left a three inch gap between the stove and the cabinets. The placement of upper and lower cabinets were also not aligned properly. Then without our contractor actually coming out to inspect the cabinet work and placement, had them come and install the stone without ever having a conversation regarding the cut placement for the sink.
We repeatedly asked for our contractor to come out for a meeting and inspect the poor quality of work that was being performed after the initial first visit on September 17th. ******* (the receptionist) made an appointment to come to our home on Friday October 4th in place of our licensed contractor, then cancelled that morning and never attempted to reschedule.
We were informed that our countertops were no longer being fabricated and our contractor wanted to upgrade our countertops to granite. ******* spoke with us regarding this upgrade and stated at most we would pay out of pocket around $800 if not less. We were never informed that it would be quartz and not granite, let alone cost us way more than what was discussed.
Since September 1st 2024, you have left our home without a functioning kitchen because your tree service handyman could not install a sink without breaking the hot and cold water lines, a garbage disposal or a dishwasher without breaking the cabinetry at the same time.
Thankfully that "unknown woman" who clearly stated and identified herself to you (*******) was looking out for our best interest. She helped us get professionals out to look at the work completed by your "handy man". All of those professionals have agreed to go on record to discuss the poor quality of work your company is claiming that is 99.9% completed. Which by the way, insurance stated you were 75% completed.
You also falsified your records, claiming you need to be paid for work you did not in fact do. You charged our insurance largely for work that was not done nor touched.
I.E: Common side of the fence was already placed by the next door home owner.
I.E: ************ threw away all of our window screens and now we have to pay to replace them ourseleves... even though not all were damaged.
I.E: Claims of sheetrock removal, insulation replacement, painting, texture and baseboards in areas that were untouched.
Our dissatisfaction did not start with the sink. It started after we moved back in on September 2nd and found multitudes of poor quality work. Paint and texture in the master bedroom that was addressed and was redone and is still poor quality, cabinetry has nail markings all over it and trim was also cut incorrectly, outlets covered over by sheetrock (that are still covered to this day). There is an endless list of dissatisfaction that does not start or end with the sink.
We were willing to move forward to complete the unfinished work, but there had to be a stopping point of the poor quality work that was being done and had been done. We wanted to have a meeting with our contractor before moving forward with more poor quality work and our contractor was not willing to meet with us.

We are currently in litigation with *** and Mrs. ***** for failure to pay the contracted work that has been completed at their residence. Having Mrs. ***** repeatedly report us to the BBB with slanderous statements is becoming old. Every time she responds there are more accusations and more statements of our workmanship to which she cannot provide proof of. I have included a text string to which *** ***** states they are good with the placement of the cabinets. This comes after we scheduled to move them once ***** first complained. We did not move them, because we were told not to. The spacing issue is one that came when they ordered new appliances.
I personally do not know of another company who would do work for a such a long period of time and not receive payment at all. The home owners haven't paid their deductible or the remaining bill. Our company has not billed insurance for anything not already approved and completed. We have closed out any supplemental on the claim in order to withdrawal from the situation. We have even issued credits to the home owners account in order to simply close this out.
This project was perfectly fine until the home owner's wife became involved. She then began making false statements, going the extra mile to make our crews uncomfortable.
At this point, we have to allow our attorney to mitigate this. But ***** really needs to stop this nonsense.
The only way to resolve this matter is for the ***** to pay her bill.

I am rejecting this response. What I am understanding from your statement representing your company is I am being discriminated against because I am "the homeowners wife". My name is on the mortgage, and according to the ***** (The convention on the Elimination of ALL Forms of Discrimination against Women) am allowed to have an opinion and voice that opinion on your company's workmanship. Also, the "NEW" appliances are the same size as the old ones and were delivered prior to the cabinets being ordered and placed. I also have a text thread with ******* and Benji regarding the measurements of the appliances and the date they were delivered and the discussion of the cabinets being ordered. You do not get to be dismissive of me because I am the wife and a homeowner.

Again, there is a process businesses have follow when they are not being paid for their services. This is what we have done, followed the process. ***** is trying to continue an argument that does not exist.
We both have legal representation, and we have for a while now. We need to be paid, and we will drop the lien. But this is not a BBB issue. This is a legal issue.

I am rejecting this response. On the Better Business Bureau platform, why are you not answering the questions of why you tried to scam us and fraud our insurance by filing for things you did not do or did not complete to the "same or better condition" as stated in your contract. You did not finished the job, because you would not come and look at the job. As per other BBB post against your company, your policy is deny and defect from the truth.

We used Life Roofing and Construction on 08/04/2020 to replace shingles on our roof. A few weeks ago, we noticed shingles in the front of our us coming up off the roof. We emailed Life Roofing with pictures of the roof on 04/23/2022 inquiring if the company would come back out and make the repairs need on the shingles. I followed that up with another email on 04/25/2022 with no response. I then sent another email to the owner on 04/28/2022 and got no response. I then called the company on 05/03/2022 and got through to their call center. The person took all my information and advised someone would reach out to me but still haven't heard anything from the company.Business response

Hello ******-
This is so odd to hear from you through the BBB. We have not received a warranty concern from you. Our records do not reflect a missed call, text or email from you. The last communication we have incoming in an email from 01/16/2021 at *****pm confirming us to come out for interior repairs. These were completed. Since then, you have slowly been paying off the owed balance on the account. The final invoice is attached and reflects the balance still owed.
For any warranty concerns, please reach out to our office at ************ or email me directly at *********************************************.
Thank you,

I am rejecting this response because:I am attaching pictures of my phone and my email as evidence that I did indeed reach out to your company and never got a response back. When I didn't hear anything from an email response from you or Bengy the owner, I called the number in ******. The gentleman advised me that he would have someone call me back which never happened. We are working on verifying with our records that our balance is indeed paid. The is the first time we were made aware that a balance was due and the last invoice we received from the company was dated 12/08/2021 with a balance due of $327.00. I am almost certain that we did make that final payment of $327.00. I find this really odd that all of a sudden we have a balance due of $167 6 months later and never got another invoice from the company.
