I purchased a preowned auto in Oct 2022 for $15.5K pretax, with a 3rd-party manufacturing warranty. I had one issue upon purchase: oil burning fast. At my first oil change, I was told my engine-type burns oil fast at high mileage and to check oil levels regularly. So, I checked oil regularly and added the same oil used in oil changes (Valvoline) if needed.A year later, in Nov 2023, my engine began shaking. Warranty covered a portion, determined to be an ignition coil failure. I covered the spark plugs as it was regular maintenance.Another year later, in Oct 2024, the same issue occurred, the engine began shaking. The mechanic (****) at Huffines took a deeper dive as the issue was recurring and found the problem. As best as I can understand, theres a crack in a cylinder head valve and excessive carbon buildup on the valve is causing failure. Oil is leaking, not burning off. **** said the engine needed to be replaced at a cost over $10K. He submitted claim to Warranty and they rejected it, saying its not a manufacturers defect. When I got the warranty, it was explained that it covered, specifically, if something happened to the engine.I purchased the auto with the issue present. **** explained the issue wouldnt have been noticed when the dealership inspected the auto prior to selling, as he had to insert a camera into the engine. It doesn't make sense that 2yrs after purchase, I must replace an engine at my expense for an issue that was present at purchase.**** submitted a goodwill request to ******* for assistance, but they rejected. He explained that my issue is believed to be due to maintenance neglect. Im the 3rd owner so Im dealing with the consequences of anothers negligence.**** said the engineers suggested a fix that would cost $5K, but it worries me that down the road, a related issue could pop up, since there are varying opinions on the ****** car has been at the dealership for 3+ months, and it's been stressful to deal with and maneuver around.Business Response

I had my truck towed in to the dealership to get the alternator replaced on a Thursday 3 weeks ago today. Once my vehicle was in their shop, they called to let me know that some other things needed to be replaced as they were beginning to wear out as well. But they did not mention at that time, that they would have a several weeks delay to locate and order parts if I opted to get the additional work done. During this time, I had to get a rental car so that I could still get back and forth to job sites and continue keeping my company running. 2 1/2 weeks after I had my truck towed to the dealership, I still had not heard any updates about the work being done on it, so I decided to call and check status. Unfortunately, that is when I was informed that they were trying to locate the necessary parts to order and have delivered but they were not sure when they would get them in. That same day though, I was able to call around to parts stores in the area an locate the parts I was needing within mere hours of speaking with the dealership. Once I called the dealership back and informed them of my findings, they suddenly were going to have the truck ready by lunch the next day (today 11/30/23). But it is now almost 2pm and I still have not heard from anyone at the dealership regarding my vehicle. I am out of pocket thousands of dollars for a rental car for no reason. And I feel like the dealership should assist in rectifying the situation, as they are the ones who ultimately caused it, by discounting the bill due for the repairs done on my vehicle.Business Response

9/23- I paid over $2500 for repair for my car. The engine light never went away and now want to charge me another $2000 for more repairs. After calling around, they charged me over $2500 more than any other garage here due to me being a young male adult. They are taking advantage of young people who don't know much about cars and severely over charging their costs for parts by over 500%.Business Response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/10/10) */ Mr. ****** dropped his vehicle off in our "after-hours" drop off and filled out the attached form -Referenced "A". His concern was a coolant leak, with the engine overheating and his tire pressures were not at recommended inflation levels. We found his coolant reservoir was cracked and his coolant hoses needed replacement. Mr. ****** authorized those repairs as well as a repair to the front timing chain cover which was leaking oil. Lastly we inflated his tires to the recommended pressures. The Coolant reservoir and hose replacements totaled approximately $1280 and the oil leak repair was an additional $1423. There was no charge to inflate the tires to the correct levels. (Service Repair Order Detail is listed as "B" on the attachments) (We also provided Mr. ****** as $250 discount as he was a student.) After Mr. ****** picked his vehicle up and drove a few miles the "check engine light" came on. When he returned the vehicle for diagnosis we found a "fault code" for the catalytic converter in the engine diagnostic system. We quoted Mr. ****** a GM Original Equipment catalytic converter replacement as we have not had success with after-market converters. Mr. ****** communicated his dis-pleasure with our price quote and took his vehicle that same day. I was notified of his dis-pleasure and I told our Service Manager to "price match" the original equipment converter to his "after-market" converter price on Monday morning. When our service manager contacted Mr. ****** he had already purchased the after market converter and asked us not to call him again. Unfortunately a catalytic converter can fail in the same manner as a light bulb - one minute it is working and the next minute it is not. Unfortunately on a 2012 model vehicle with 120,500 miles on it there is no way of knowing in advance how much longer a catalytic converter will last. Some never fail and others fail much sooner. We are not offering any additional discounts or refunds as he two concerns were unrelated. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/10/11) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) When I dropped off my car, it was in no driving order. As I am new to the area, clearly young as I am a college student, and my car was in no condition to drive, I couldn't afford to tow my car elsewhere to get a second quote for the repairs. I now regret not spending that extra $200 for a tow elsewhere as I would have saved nearly $1500 in expenses. You all steal from people like me, discriminated against me by over charging me, and will never get my business ever again. I hope other people who have any common sense do not do business with you as you have poor ethics and poor business practices. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/10/12) */ We have carefully reviewed the labor time that we charged for the repairs against the information found in "All Data", which is an industry wide software guidance program for the estimation of automotive repair times. All Data is recognized by manufacturers nationwide. We found that the labor time we charged, for the respective repairs were equal to or less than the estimates in All Data. Any automotive repair can be performed with non-original equipment parts for less money, or by technicians that are not trained to perform repairs to the manufacturers specifications, and may not have any warranty. The repairs we performed on Mr. ******'s vehicle carry a 24 month, unlimited miles warranty on them, through our service department. We neither tolerate nor condone any form of discrimination or price gouging in any of our dealership departments. We operate ethically and stand by all of our repair work.
