I received a call from this debt collector claiming I am in debt to them for $656. This company is a scam. I have called the original company where the debt originated from and they claim they did not sell this debt to this company and not for the allotted amount of $656 and that my account was not in debt, that the debt was taken care of back in 2020. I was told from the original company that I should disregard this collection attempt as it seems to be a scam. When I called Lockhart morris and Montgomery to let them know I dispute the charges, they asked for my date of birth as well even though I had already given them the account number and reference number and confirmed address and name. I said it did not seem necessary to give my date of birth when I have confirmed everything else. They hung up. This company gives evidence of fraud. I do not want this affecting my credit score. I spoke with ****** at Providence ascension billing department (the original account holder for the bill) and he is the one who told me I do not owe this debt and to disregard the collection as it may be a scam.Business response

I am rejecting this response because:
I have discussed with the original creditor that I do not owe this debt. You are NOT a real debt collection company, I have NEVER been required to provide my birthdate in order to review the case, after I have already provided the account number, reference number, my name AND address. I will not provide my birth date, its not necessary. Not to mention the amount that was trying to be collected isnt even the correct amount that the original creditor was trying to collect.
I have not even been previously contacted for the amount requested prior to it going to collections. This is a **** company, ******%. I will not be paying the amount asked.

I am writing to file a formal complaint against Lockhart, ********************************************* regarding their unfair and potentially unlawful collection practices. This company has reported two collection accounts on my credit report under the account numbers ******** for $960 and ******** for $969. However, I have never been contacted by this company prior to these accounts appearing on my credit report, and I have not received any validation or documentation to substantiate these debts. Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), specifically 15 U.S.C. 1692g, a collection agency is required to send a written notice within five days of their initial communication, providing me with details about the debt and my rights to dispute it. To date, I have not received any such communication from Lockhart, *********************************************, which is a clear violation of federal law. Additionally, their failure to validate these debts before reporting them to the credit bureaus is a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), specifically 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2. This law requires that all information reported to credit bureaus must be accurate, verifiable, and substantiated by proper documentation. I have sent a formal request to Lockhart, ********************************************* demanding validation of these debts. However, I am seeking the BBBs assistance in resolving this matter and ensuring that this company adheres to legal standards in its debt collection practices. Please let me know what steps the BBB can take to address this issue and hold Lockhart, ********************************************* accountable for their actions. Thank you for your attention to this matter.Business response

On or about July 27, 2024, I, *********************, agreed with Lockhart, Morris, and Montgomery to settle a debt in the amount of $11,868.75 for $7000. Before paying the debt, I asked the collector whom I spoke to by the of ************** if she would promise that they would report the debt as paid and to request removal from my credit report of all three credit bureaus to which she agreed. After I paid the debt, not only is it still reporting on my credit reports, but they subtracted the settled amount and left me with a balance that they're reporting as unpaid and in collections. They have lied to me and I would like to request that they immediately remove this debt from my credit report as promised.Business response
