  On November 26, 2023 we went into this restaurant to have breakfast. When they handed us our bill there was an 18% gratuity charge on the bill. I asked why we were charged this amount and the lady at the register said, "Any bill over 100.00 has to pay a mandatory 18% gratuity charge." I have been in the restaurant many times and never been asked to pay this fee. As a customer, I was not allowed to choose to tip nor was I informed that the tip was mandatory. This information was not posted on the menu, in the building, nor told to us as we ordered. Our server was great and we believe in tipping however, we go places where we choose to tip based on service not where we are charged for gratuity's. If this is happening, they should inform their customers and not try to cheat them. Additionally, my first bill was around 130.00 then we grabbed a couple of dessert items at the register. The cashier took the bill and raised it making it look like we ate the items there and raised the gratuity for to go items. I did not see this until the very end. Our total bill for food was: 125.97 then they added 18% gratuity for 20.95 for a total of 146.92. I don't think this is fair to overcharge customers with fees that are not told upfront of ordering. Also, at the end of the transaction I had to ask for an itemized receipt. The cashier tried to give me a receipt that just had the total amount paid with no disclosure (other than to mention it briefly after charging me) of the gratuity888.
