The MCI brand is still sold in parts of the country outside the Verizon region and MCI continues to serve its existing customers. According to information provided by the company, MCI Communications Corporation (MCC) was incorporated in Delaware in 1968 to provide long distance communications services. The company first telecommunications services was for business customers in 1971. Residential service was added in 1980. WorldCom acquired MCI in 1998. In 2001, MCI Group assets became separately traded. MCI Group operated as a separate business operating unit of WorldCom. WorldCom Wireless, which offered cellular telephone service, was also a separate company from WorldCom. WorldCom Wireless business operations had been located in Boston, Massachusetts. That entity ceased operations in late, 2002. The company adopted the name of MCI, Inc. when it restructured itself in April, 2004.
