We were booked on a school excursion from June 20-July 1, 2024 We toured ****** and *****. They booked our flights on AER LINGUS. This airline had been threaten to strike for weeks in advance of the trip. When our group leader inquired about the strike and asked if Explorica would change our flights, they indicated that if something happened that our flights were canceled, they would work expeditiously with the airline to get us rebooked. The room accommodations at some stops were not safe for kids (or adults for that matter). One stop in ****** was a motel that smelled like sewage on the first floor and at least one room had spiders under the mattresses. A group of us refused to stay in those accommodations and were promptly moved to a more suitable hotel. Another stop in ***** was a hotel located in a not good part of town and we heard gun shots in the middle of the night not far away. I did not sleep for the rest of the night. We ended up stranded at the airport on July 1st. the flights were canceled, Explorica's reservations line did not open until 3 hours later while several other flights were available for rebooking. Several of us took our own kids and took matters into our own hands and paid AGAIN to book new flights to get out of the country. We paid $5000.00 to go on the trip and i paid another $4700.00 to book my own flight to get home. Others who could afford to do so did the same. Others were stranded in ***** for 3 additional days. We kept in constant contact to make sure everyone was ok. Explorica provided them no support with rebooking. This trip was a nightmare. They have no regard for the safety of their customers traveling in foreign countries.Review from Colleen T

Unorganized & chaotic would be an understatement. Day 1 guide, ****** spent more time talking outside where no one could hear him rather than tell us on the bus. Schedule for these tours are not efficient, you spend more time driving back & forth to places that are ****************************************************************** the same area all at once. Spent more time in the ******** ********** bus than anywhere else in **. We could have seen The ***********, the monuments/memorials Monday evening. Instead we went back to the area 3X after going somewhere else like ***************, we didn't even go to the ******************* cuz ******. Didn't have enough time at memorials to look for family names. Day 2 was a 4 HOUR delay cuz our driver didn't turn of the batteries to the bus the night before didn't go out ahead of leave time to start the bus. Didn't tell our Coordinator that it was not starting. Refused to call for a new bus that would, take a hour to get here. Instead of making up for lost time ****** decided to spend his time pushing his political views, talk about himself. He couldn't walk well so he wouldn't go places. He only gave us an hour to look in Museums which should take hours. ******************** told us not to go in any shops cuz he had the best to take us to, only reason it was the best, was he got a cut for bringing us in. Breakfast the hotel served was coffee grounds in the coffee, no fruit, just carbs, that were soggy & cold. NY was better guide ******* was an hour late, He stopped in the hot sun to talk for, refused to stop in the shade. Marriott B.B was disgusting, there were used contact in my bed frame, it was very clear the ONLY thing done before we got there at 11PM, the bed was made, sheets were not changed, not vacuumed or cleaned. We paid over $11k to W.S for this trip if I could take all my money back I would. Who ever is in charge of making the itinerary should be fired for how much time fuel and money they make you waste on this adventure.WorldStrides Response

I learned a lot from this trip, especially what I never want to experience again. This was one of the most frustrating and stressful experience. Their customer service was consistently disappointing and infuriating. I felt ignored, belittled, and dismissed multiple times while organizing this costly trip.I used WS for an educational trip to ***** for my students/parents. Our group shrank due to poor management, causing parents to withdraw their children. Trying to build a trip program at my school, this experience was disastrous. I've since switched companies to regain trust.The lack of attention to detail from a company of this size is astounding. For example, my name was misspelled in the email requesting this review, highlighting their "good enough" mentality.My colleague and I frequently caught errors and faced hostility or were ignored when addressing them. Questions were met with copy-pasted responses or ignored for months. Concerns were dismissed with "you agreed to the terms and conditions."We had a 1-hour layover in ***** for an international flight, requiring us to go through passport control and change terminals. Despite knowing this tight connection, our rep refused to help or address our concerns.Our trip was initially scheduled for March but moved to June. Despite notifying our rep in October of potential problems with our trip coinciding with Easter, we were ignored until late December and faced repeated issues and cost demands. We ended up with a summer trip, different from our original plan, and our objections were dismissed.The only saving ***** was our tour guide, ******, who made the trip wonderful. The issues we faced were due to poor time management, planning, and transportation choices by WS. Roughly a quarter of our trip was spent on a bus, despite better mass transportation options being available.Avoid this company. Their promises are empty once they get your money, showing little care for customer service and experience.Review from Heidi M

I was the program leader for a groups of 70+ children and over 10 adults on a school trip to **. Our first night in ************ and the hotel was less than stellar. Students rooms had mold and rust in the bathrooms. However, it was one night, we all roughed it and headed to ** the next day. The second hotel, ********************, WAS NOT LISTED on our itinerary. We were originally slated to be at a Doubletree by ****** but ended at ********************. ***** motel is being nice in regards to this facility. I was verbally attacked by the night shift worked at 1:30am when one of the students room had a toilet overflow and had to be moved. Hotel refused ti move them because it had oversold rooms because of our group. There was mold in the rooms, bugs in the beds, shower heads hanging off the wall, and dirty sheets and towels. Absolutely unacceptable. When we returned I made SEVERAL attempts to call our liaison with NO RESPONSE BACK. My counterpart on the trip has sent email after email with again, zero response. Its absolutely ridiculous that these kids paid $1700 To stay in a ***** motel (a kid actually found one in their bed when they woke up one morning) without the possibility of a refund for those two nights. We had parents PAY EXTRA for a single room at this awful hotel. Clearly, someone messed up the reservation and is refusing to take accountability.WorldStrides Response

I would give zero stars if I could. My daughter signed up for her dream trip with her French class and was so excited to travel. We paid the initial deposit in addition to travel insurance and additional payment. We later discovered that not enough students signed up for the trip and that the trip would no longer be honored by Explorica due to cost (we had no idea there was a quota that needed to be met). End of story, right?! NOPE. An alternate plan was offered to the program leader for our school to join another school their original program leader would not travel, with a different travel date, a completely different itinerary and price. Now, because this alternative was apparently accepted by the program leader, I am now out the $399 cancellation fee plus the $257 travel protection plan. Did I mention this trip is over one year away? Any responsible company would have offered PARENTS/GUARDIANS the alternative and the opportunity to accept or refuse the option - since I am the one paying for it after all. My child does not want to travel with a program leader and class that she does not know. I wish I would have read these reviews prior to signing up for this program. I will be advocating for our school district to look for other options in the future if any of my children are ever going to travel again.WorldStrides Response

WorldStrides took $4000 from us and then washed their hands of any intentional support through preparing for the trip my son was supposed to take. Despite the fact that we sent his passport information in with his initial application, we were never contacted or flagged for any potential passport concerns. My sons passport was set to expire 3 months after returning from his trip. He was blocked from boarding the plane and due to falling short 1 month on the passport expiration requirement. Although we expressed to WoldStrides that our family was under extreme emotional duress both before the trip (due to a major death in the family) and after due to our son missing the trip and our denied refund of all the money friends and family helped raise, we never got any response from our attempts to talk to anyone directly. We also were denied the refund from the travel insurance we purchased along with paying for the trip. Although the policy that WorldStrides shares says that it will cover for deaths in the family, the insurance agent said that in her end, the only thing the policy shows it will refund for is death or sickness of the traveler. The WorldStrides document is a misrepresentation of what is actually covered. This has been a traumatic experience for our son, on top of an excruciating time for our family and that seems to be of no consequence to WorldStrides. In terms of being a dedicated travel agency, WorldStrides is about as hands off as possible after they get paid.WorldStrides Response

This company is a major mistake if you do business with them. My school is suffering because of two issues... The first is that a company that promised us a very large donation failed to fulfill their promise to our students, and second World strides has decided to make things worse.It is impossible to get past the people that answer the phone. No supervisor will respond, nor will anyone at the corporate headquarters respond to my pleas. I messaged the *** on Linkedin and some random individual emailed me but did not help instead sending me back to the people that could not help in the first place. It's a real racket. Those on the phones say they can't help, and it's impossible to get to anyone else.If you are a teacher, don't fall for this racket. And if you are a parent, do NOT ever send your child with them. We had a trip planned with them for our school last week. The trip was a disaster with them getting schedules mixed up, etc. They told us a time to be at a dinner cruise and we were five minutes early and the boat had already left. We had no transportation back so we all had to get Ubers which we have not been reimbursed for yet. We were supposed to do a ferry ride for *********************. We were on the ******** side. They booked the wrong tickets and they were for the ********** side. Everything was poorly planned. We had a blast on our own in ********.WorldStrides Response

It was such a fun trip. It was so amazing. Our tour guide was literally so good. He made it ten times better. He made sure we saw everything on our list. He even took us on the metro. It was such a fun experience. I will always remember this trip. It was such an epic experience. I definitely recommend traveling with them.WorldStrides Response

They are totally overcharging parents. Extremely frustrating. After everything was paid-called me days later and stated the flights just got more expensive- I had to pay another almost 300$!! UnbelievableWorldStrides Response

We truly appreciate your feedback and want you to know that we take your concerns very seriously.Looking into your account you registered your child on his school trip after the Final Payment Due Date, the reason why we set this date is so that land and air accommodations for the entire group can be secured. When we receive a registration below that date we make all of the needed efforts to be able to find reservations, unfortunately, we no longer guarantee the same cost. As a result of the unique nature of our trips, we have a distinct booking process that differs from that of individual travellers. We make our bookings through the group desk and often operate with limited inventory, which means that we are subject to different terms, conditions and costs than those applicable to the general public. We have made land reservations for your child, however, the airline has imposed an additional fee of $479.00. In response to your inquiry, we have removed the $271.00 late add fee, which has resulted in a reduction of the total amount you need to pay to $208.00.Thank you for choosing WorldStrides.
