I am being unfairly charged a $50 fee for which I am not responsible. We had our cat, with approval, living in the apartment with us. And we already paid a $250 non-refundable fee (plus a $500 refundable fee) for her to live with us. She (a spayed female, now 3 1/2 years old) never urinated on the floor of our apartment (nor anywhere else we have lived/stayed with her). Since the carpet in our apartment was very old and worn out, I thought they may try to fabricate damage in order to cause us illegitimate costs for its replacement because the manager had insinuated during a phone call that, since we had a cat, we will have to pay fees when we move out. Yet we had already paid a $250 fee. Due to the poor state of the carpet, we had asked it to be replaced during our move-in inspection, but were denied. I emailed a photo of the stretched out areas throughout the apartment that caused huge lumps and wrinkles/buckles across the carpet that were very ugly, and the carpet was in really bad condition. Yet we were forced to live with it.On the day of our move-out, just to cover ourselves, I had a carpet cleaner inspect the carpet. *** at Bakerview ChemDry did a black light test and found urine in a few areas. I submitted this report to the new apartment manager. In this report, *** confirmed, based on the salt ******* content, that the stains were definitely more than 5 years old. We had only lived in the apartment for 2 years, and yet we were denied the possibility of new carpet since the previous manager stated there was no urine detected prior to our move-in, so they found it unnecessary to change the carpet for us. After our move-out, I have been notified that the carpet has been replaced and that I am being charged a $50 fee for the treatment of urine on the subfloor. Whatever urine was discovered in the apartment was not from our cat. She is young and well behaved, and has never had an accident anywhere, so this fee is unjust and I seek to be reimbursed this $50 fee.
