Brennan was contracted to come out and move a heat pump they had installed over ten years ago. We needed septic work done and the heat pump was sitting on the septic line. The solution was to move the heatpump three feet from where it was installed. The estimate was for $4260 wi the cost of the refrigerant replaced if needed. On the service date the service tech, ***** was very **** and rude and stated that I should just replace the heat pump at this point, that it can no longer be guaranteed to work after the move. From the tone of the conversation, I felt that the service tech had no interest in making sure my heat pump would make it through the move whole. It was a scary high pressure sales tactic. The two workers were here maybe 30 minutes and had the unit disconnected and the refrigerant "pumped" down and left my property. I had been inside the house attempting to reach a person at Brennan. When I reached someone, I decided at that time that I wanted them to just leave the heat pump apart and that I would hire someone else to actually move it. I finally got someone on the phone and the service men returned and picked up their things and left. I called the manager to explain what had happened. We had a cordial conversation. I was shocked when I received the bill and called the manager back. This time when we left the conversation it was my understanding that he was reviewing the billed amount with *****. I heard nothing else until the billing office called me months later trying to collect the orignal bill. I have attempted to work with Brennan to pay for the 40 minutes or so of work their crew did. They refuse to budge on what they originally billed which included $560 for labor and $500 for disconnecting the unit. No one seems to care to discuss this with me but they are willing to incur the cost of collecting this bill rather than do a billing adjustment to compromise with me. Today I was contacted by a collector.Business Response
Date: 03/06/2025
I want to clarify that we are only charging for the work we did. 2 hours of labor, plus the $500 fee for unhooking the unit, and not the full price of the repair. We stopped work on the job solely because we were asked to leave her property, and as such were unable to continue or complete the repair. ***** was informed by the manager that she will need to pay for the work that we did and the cost was relayed to her. Our management and accounting team has spoken with her many times as well as when it was taking place.Initial Complaint

In September 2023, I paid Brennan Heating & A/C $584.81 for two years of HVAC preventative maintenance. They serviced the system in 2023 but are refusing to service the system this year (2024). I have tried to contact them to refund me for the one year of service they owe me ($292.41) but they do not respond to my phone calls or emails.Business Response

On June 5, 2024, while plugging in duct cleaning equipment in the laundry room of my home, the Brennan employee damaged the top of the dryer by kneeling on it. He admitted that he did this. Initially, the employee and I worked together on a fix without involving his boss and we even ordered the replacement part together. He was going to reimburse me out of his pocket for the part and come back to replace it. However, the employee stopped returning my texts. I have called Brennan 3 times since June to resolve this but have never received a response. This damage is Brennan's responsibility. The cost of repair is approximately $230-$260: $80 for the dryer part and $150-$180 for the service visit and labor. Uploaded photos of the indentations were taken on the day of the duct cleaning, 6/5/2024. The employee also took pictures. (The dryer is approximately 3 years old.)Business Response

I was very disappointed in Brennan H&AC when my furnace suddenly stopped working during a winter 2024 cold snap. At first Brennan said a technician would stop by in 2 to 3 days but then ended up sending a very young tech to my house. He took off the furnace cover, looked inside, and stated that he could see nothing wrong. The furnace was less than 3 years old so l insisted I should not be billed for his trip out, especially since he couldn't resolve the problem. He left without billing me, but three months later, a collection agency contacted me for $250! There are many good, reputable HVAC companies in the area but the Brennan company is NOT one of them.Business Response

Our technician was at her house diagnosing for an hour and a half. The technician found an error code for low pressure switch opening. The tech made sure the pressure hoses and flue passage were clear and restarted the system and the customer had heat. The tech informed the customer to monitor and let us know if it is still a problem and showed her how to recycle the power which can get the heat going again if need be. After he was done the customer refused to pay and threatened our technician. This forced us to send her to collections.
This is the note from our technician. "Refused to pay. Threatening to sue and clapping in my face. States she hates BrennanCustomer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: I believe Brennan reviewed the notes from their prior yearly inspection. This was not a service call. It was a request for emergent assistance with my non-functioning furnace. The technician was only at my house for a matter of minutes, removed the cover panel and stated he could see nothing wrong. I insisted that since my furnace was still under warranty I should not be billed, so he left without billing me. I never received a bill from Brennan. I remain disappointed with Brennan's poor service and dishonesty. I will no longer engage with Brennan in any way and consider this matter closed.

I am filing a complaint against Brennan Heating and Air Conditioning regarding the installation and subsequent issues with a heat pump system they installed in mid-2022. The system has not been functioning properly for over a year due to low pressure caused by a leak at a braze fitting on the indoor unita leak that was directly related to their installation work.Details of the Complaint:Installation Date: Mid-2022 Issue Discovered: The heat pump system has been malfunctioning due to low pressure. After months of investigation, it was determined that the cause was a leak at a braze fitting on the indoor unit, which was part of Brennan Heating and Air Conditionings installation.Visual Evidence: The leak is obvious, as there is oil on the ground, and refrigerant is visibly bubbling from the leaking braze fitting, indicating a significant issue.Investigation Fee: When Brennan Heating and Air Conditioning visited my property to investigate, they charged me over $200, despite the issue being evident and directly related to their installation work. This investigation fee was unnecessary since the problem was clearly identifiable.Lack of Follow-Up: They did not provide the promised quote for repairs after the investigation and have been unresponsive to my attempts to communicate with them. I believe their lack of communication is due to the fact that their original installation work is the root cause of the problem.Financial Impact: To date, I have incurred over $1,000 in costs related to this issueexpenses that would not have been necessary if the installation had been done correctly.Health and Environmental Concerns: The ongoing leak poses potential health risks due to refrigerant exposure and environmental concerns due to the release of refrigerant into my home.Business Response

Our technician was at ****** ******** house on 9/5 and changed out the *** at no charge for the part or Labor. The *** is a manufacture made part that had failed, after diagnosing it we ordered the part and completed the 3 hour repair. Everything was working properly when our technician left.Customer Answer
Date: 09/16/2024
I would like to reject the response from the business. With detail provided below.
I am writing to address the recent issue regarding the *** valve replacement on my unit, which, contrary to your claim, was not replaced. I have evidence that substantiates this. I took timestamped photos both when the unit was initially installed and again prior to September 5, when the issue first occurred. These photos clearly show the serial number, along with distinct scratches and markings on the valve.
After your technician serviced the unit, I took another photo showing that the valves serial number, scheme, and identifying marks are identical to those from before the supposed replacement. This proves that the *** valve was not replaced, as claimed.
Furthermore, despite being told that the repair would be covered under warranty, I was charged upfront for the first service. In addition to these charges, I have incurred additional expenses from hiring another company to diagnose the unit, which further confirmed the valve was not replaced. Given the situation, I am requesting the following resolution:
1. A full refund for the charges from your company for the parts and labor that were supposed to be covered under warranty.
2. A refund for the costs incurred from hiring another company to diagnose the issue.
3. A written acknowledgment from your company, signed, that extends the warranty to cover the unreplaced parts and accepts full responsibility for the failure to replace the valve as claimed.
4. I also request that you either replace the valve as originally agreed or cover the costs for a third-party company to complete the necessary repair, as I no longer trust your company to handle this matter correctly.

Our technician was out over 2 years since we installed the system. They never had a maintenance and the outdoor coil was heavily impacted with debris. There was a leak in the txv nut so we ordered a new TXV and went out to make the system work again. Our technician was out and got the system working on 9/5/24 and we have not heard from the customer since. If there is or was something that is not working still we would love to come out and take a look and see what is going on. The repair was no charge.Customer Answer

Complaint: 22212288
I am rejecting this response because:Thank you for your response. However, I would like to clarify a few points that seem to have been overlooked or misrepresented.
1.Maintenance Records: Contrary to your claim, the system has been maintained regularly. There are documented maintenance reports both attached to the system and provided by third-party companies that have serviced it. This is in addition to the fact that your company did not respond to my attempts to contact you for maintenance over the past two years, which is part of the issue here.
2.Inconsistent Claims: Initially, you stated the issue was not your responsibility. Then, you claimed to have fixed the problem by replacing a part, but now the story has changed to simply getting the system working. The lack of consistency in your responses is concerning, and its clear that this situation has not been handled transparently from the start.
3.Delayed Response: Its important to note that your company only responded once I escalated the issue through the BBB. Prior to this, multiple attempts to reach out went unanswered. This delay caused additional costs as I had to involve a third-party company to inspect and maintain the system.
4.Offer to Discuss Further: I would be happy to speak with someone knowledgeable about the situation, as it appears that whoever is responding to this message does not have all the necessary details or is being intentionally vague. Its important we address these issues transparently and in good faith.
I hope to resolve this matter as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
****** ******Initial Complaint

*** 26, 2024 Brennan serviced a heat pump. They added 8lbs of refrigerant. Their invoice says Confirmed proper operation and proper pressure readings. We bought the house in June, the heat and cooling didnt work. Brennans service team said the equipment was broken and recommended replacement over repair. They said they could not warranty the equipment as it was past warranty. We purchased new equipment from Brennan. Once installed we had a hot day and the house wouldnt cool below 71 degrees. We were then told we could not expect more than a 20 degree difference between the outside and inside temperate with the equipment we selected. This was not disclosed prior to sale. Other systems can do this but a ducted heat pump can not. I should have been provided this information when selecting replacement equipment. Also, I feel Brennan has a liability as they said the equipment was functional in ***uary when it was not. Ive attached the *** servicing statement and my proposal (which does not disclose the 20 degree limitation)Business Response
Date: 08/12/2024
Washington Design code states that the outdoor temp difference to inside is acceptable around 20 degrees. If it was 95 degrees outside and the temp inside got to 71 degree then the system is working just as it should. The previous homeowner had us out to inspect the system and we found the system was low on refrigerant. We add the refrigerant and tested the system at that time and everything was working properly. We recommended to the existing homeowner they should do a leak search to find where it is leaking from but they did not proceed.Customer Answer

Complaint: 22050835
I am rejecting this response because:The response does not address the complaint. It sidesteps both key issues.
A heat pump does not consume refrigerant. A properly functioning system would not need a leak search. Only a system with a leak would require a leak search as they recommended and a system with a leak is not functioning properly. I don't think WA state endorses continuously filling leaking systems and classifying them as "functioning". Refrigerant is a potent greenhouse gas.
I am not taking issue with WA State's measures of what a functioning system is. I'm arguing it needs to be stated prior to the sale of a system that the system being sold has a limitation. That on a record day of heat (a few years ago 112 degrees) it will be 90 degrees inside your home and that is the best you can hope for with the system that is being sold. When I called to complain to Brennan about this, the service front desk on several occasions said they had never heard of this 20 degree rule and that it sounded crazy, impossible, not right, absurd, those are the same descriptions I was inclined to use after spending $24k to have heat and cooling installed and not being able to cool my home below 71 degrees on a 95 degree day.
My complaint is that I was expected to know this fact, it was not disclosed at the sale.
Some of the company's employees were shocked to hear it and the one's responsible for handling my complaint appear well versed, perhaps trained to share this information after installation. I believe the sales people have a responsibility to disclose this prior to sale not after when the system performs below even the Company's own service representative's expectations.
Sincerely,
***** ******Business Response

In January the previous homeowner had us out for a maintenance where we found the unit low on refrigerant. The homeowner had us fill it up and we proceeded with our maintenance, the unit was working fine with the refrigerant filled up. We let the previous homeowner know we recommend a leak search due to missing refrigerant and wrote that in there service checklist sheet. The previous homeowner provided Mr. ****** the invoice which does not have our recommendation on there. We went out at the end of August and did a duct test where we recommend that he gets his duct work sealed for better cooling and heating. We have not heard from him since the duct test.Initial Complaint

I called Brennan Heating on Jan 12th because I had no heat. They discovered that the condensate drain line was frozen so they unplugged it and diverted it to a bucket so I could get heat again. I mentioned to the technician at the time that it wasn't installed properly but I was billed $206.99 for the visit. I reviewed the installation manual for the furnace and it specifically says "Condensate drain line should be routed within the conditioned space to avoid freezing of condensate and blockage of drain line". In addition to giving me a bill they gave me a bid for them to come back and fix it from roughly $300. I called Brennan a couple of times to see if they reroute the line for free since it wasn't installed properly. One manager told me that because it was an "Exceptionally cold day" the installation was correct for our region. I mentioned that we had exceptionally cold days with my other Furnace and I never had a problem, then he blamed it on the inspector saying since the mechanical inspection passed it wasn't there fault. This just seems to be passing the buck for not a proper installation.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because this was a brand new system and they did not follow the instructions explicitly called out by the manufacturer and instead they are passing the blame on to the inspector. I did pay for the technician to find the problem but frankly if anybody ever goes with Brennan buyer beware and check the condensate line yourself ! I would have hoped they would have been a quality company and corrected the installation but Hey! now you know.

I've had about 9 service calls in less than three years (thank God I bought a 3 year warranty). Most of the issues have been labor/installation issues, some mechanical. My system has frozen and flooded three times. The system has also leaked through my attic. I had to purchase space heaters twice now along with a portable AC unit in the summer. My condensation line is more exposed now to the elements (also not insulated) due to an improper fix during the first freeze. Brennan is not accepting any responsibility for their lack of performance. My system is almost out of warranty and I'm stuck with a terrible system again mostly due to improper installation. When I call other HVAC companies to come out and fix it because they can get to me faster than my hired contractor, they refuse to work on it because it could void my warranty with the manufacturer. How many service calls does a customer need to have in three years for them to take accountability that they have failed me?Business Response

Company installed a backup generator in our home several years ago; including an extended service contract. We have scheduled annual maintenance under that contract every year as required. Each time, the Company schedules a service tech, however, fails to show up. Two weeks ago, we had the same. Lots of excuses and reschedules at their convenience, not ours. This has happened three times in two weeks with no communication. Horrendously poor customer service and waste of our time.
