    Pattern of Complaint:

BBB files indicate that this business has a pattern of complaints concerning service and repair issues. Specifically, consumers allege that the company is unable to properly diagnose and repair appliances effectively, there is a lack of follow-up and resolution to issues, and the cost of parts is grossly inflated.

We have also noted the following situation in many of the disputes filed through BBB:

Consumers are advised by the company that a service call will cost $80 however, once the service technician arrives, that amount is increased to approximately $300 to diagnose the issue. The consumer is then told the appliance can be fixed and they are given a repair agreement which outlines the cost of labour. When the document is signed, the work begins and upon further inspection new parts are required and the repair quickly escalates in price. In many cases the repair suggested to the consumer is ineffective and the appliance is still not in working order.

In July 2019, BBB submitted a written request to the company encouraging them to address the pattern of complaints. BBB has not received a response to date.

In December 2022, BBB staff reviewed the information on file and determined that the pattern of complaints had not been resolved.  BBB continues to receive a high volume of complaints similar in nature.

BBB offers the following tips when choosing an appliance repair company:

Research the company online - Check to see how long the company has been in business and if previous customers have had a positive experience.

Contact the manufacturer - Most appliance manufacturers have authorized service technicians that have received specialized training on their products. You may also wish to confirm there are no recalls on the appliance and that parts are still available.

Confirm the pricing - BBB suggests consumers confirm what is included in service fees. Does it include diagnosis of the issue, and will it be credited back if you decide to go ahead with repairs, etc.?

Ask about warranties - Check to see if the company offers a warranty on the parts or service. Often this will show whether they are confident that the repair will work.

We called to repair our range hood. Over the phone they quoted $80.00 to look at it. Once looked at, they would give us a quote for repair which we agreed to move forward on. They ordered the part and it never came (two months later still waiting). When we cancelled they still charged us for the $280.00 for repair work they never did. And a re-stocking fee for a part that never came. So they took a total of $603.99 from us. ***** ****** * they ************ present the $80.00 to "look" at the broken appliance but it's a charge to just show up at the door. They readily admitted that after the fact. *** *** ****** ***** ** ******* * **** ***** **** ***** **** ********** ** **** ***** **** ******* ******** ***** ********** ******** ******* ****** **** ***** ******* **** ****** ************ *** ******* ******** ***** *** ***** *************************************************************** *********************************************************** *****************************

Paid for a technician to investigate my fridge which had stopped cooling. He came on the 12th, spent 30 mins investigating and then said I needed a new evaporator cover, which they needed to order in. Total of 605 dollars paid on the spot, with a further 277 for the installation when parts arrived. I assumed, since the fridge wasn't working, that the technician was correct so agreed to pay for the part. The day after he left, opened the fridge and it was working fine; the part was wholly unnecessary. Called to get a refund and was told accounting was closed until new year and they'd call me back after. Waited until the 8th with no contact, so called them back, and was told they would only refund me a portion of the labor cost and not at all for the misdiagnosis or nearly 500 dollar charge for the part.

I reached out to A Team Appliance repair on a Saturday as my dryer broke and I urgently needed it repaired. They sent someone on a Sunday which was a huge relief, and mentioned that it would be $80 for the appointment in order to determine the issue. Sam showed up and within 10 mins he opened the dryer door, said he needed $420 in parts and his labour would be $350. My husband understood he would do the work that day but Sam rushed him to sign an agreement, take payment and quickly left saying he needed 5 business days to receive the parts. Upon coming downstairs to check on the dryer, I immediately called the head office to request a breakdown of the labour as $350 for opening a door seemed insane. I was yelled at by a woman named Taz and when mentioned the Consumer Protection Act. I called back the following day to request a status update on my refund request, only to get yelled at again. The parts have not been ordered and there was no labour done on my dryer, yet they will not issue any refund. How can a business like this be allowed to operate?

Called to repair for error code on ********* dishwasher. Said there'd be an $80 fee for house call that would be absolved if there's a need to service (included in service fee). Someone came to service that day. Spent 10 mins checking out the error code & dishwasher said that in order to diagnose further they'd need to take out dishwasher and charge $280, the problem could be resolved for that fee but if requiring a part, they'd need to charge additional for the part. So I agreed to pay $280 fee. 10 minutes later after taking the dishwasher out they said they'd need to order a part and that the cost would be $398+tax and no additional labour fees would be charged. I needed to pay $541 upfront cash/debit only as a deposit and they'd come back when the part comes in they'd install. They said the part I needed to replace was a valve and hose, which was causing water leakage. I did pay the fee but then became suspect to a hugely inflated price. The price of the dishwasher was only $900, why would I need to spend $766 total just to get one part repaired and serviced. So I contacted the ********* manufacturer and they said that the part that I was told I needed to replace was $90. I immediately called Appliance Repair to cancel the part and asked for a refund. They said they would still need to charge $280 service fee+tax. Refund by cheque to come in the mail. Got ********* to service instead cost $129 for service fee $29 for the part. Valve wasn't even leaking, it was the seal of the dishwasher that was causing the leak! Appliance repair, misdiagnosed and price gauge. I paid a deposit to them of $541 and hope to receive a refund. Waiting for the cheque in the mail for $224.97 refund they promised (still paying $280 service). They take debit or cash only and make you pay the bulk upfront. You sign off on each of the payments but with everything happening so quickly and wanting to get it fixed, customers may easily sign without thinking through logically about the cost.

Called them to fix my refrigerator. Tech came and serviced the unit. Said it will start working within a couple of hours. After 15 hours the unit is still not cooling and the company is declining to send a tech to review the issue as they are waiting for a warranty claim to be reviewed. This will take anywhere from 1-3 days and the customer service agent basically said I have to wait.

We paid for the serviceman to come and fix the stacked washer/dryer...The machine would not drain properly. He told us the service call was 80.00 and he checked the system and then charged us 316.40 for a supposed rotation system and told us to plug it in 6 hours to see if it works..It did not work because he did not fix anything and knew it would not work...We want our money back and feel this is not good business practice. If they could not fix it, then they should tell the customers that they dont know how to fix the machine..We spent 2 days waiting..

Repair technician came in on December 15, 2023 to fix my microwave door handle. It was placed back in position but not left in working condition. The first time I opened the microwave, the handle fell off. It was placed in position, but not repaired. The screw is still loose. I've called the business 4 times, they tell me they can't help and will get repair technician to call me to discuss, but he never calls me. I keep calling back and they tell me the same thing. I've sent them a video showing that repair wasn't done.
