I broke my lease after living there for only 3 months and I was $1200 for painting. I am a Navy veteran and I don't have any pets or children living with me and yet in 3 months I was charged $1200 for paint damage.

The key words are broke my lease. This former tenant isnt upset about charges to restore the walls to their original shape (the charges are adequate, by the way. The former tenant damaged the walls beyond simple touching up with paint. They required a full repainting). He is upset because the company upheld the terms of the contract he signed, which was for a one year term. Perhaps the former tenant simply doesnt understand contracts. Contracts are bi-lateral agreements between two parties, meaning each party receives something of value. He received a house to live in and was protected in that arrangement for ******************************************************* the event a higher paying tenant came along. In exchange, the landlord was to receive rental payments for 12 months, and likewise, the tenant agreed to not vacate early just because they found a situation they liked better. This is basic contract law. Our contracts do allow tenants to terminate a lease before the 12 month expiration by paying an early termination fee. This former tenant wanted the best of all worlds - to vacate after only a few months into the lease term and not pay ANY penalty and get a full refund of his security deposit. This is absurd and I dont know any landlord that would agree to this. He kindly asked us to let him out of all this lease terms. Then he became belligerent when we explained how the process works. He then tried every blackmailing technique in the book to get us to bow to his desires. This will never happen. On another note, as the owner of the company, I do not care if someone wants to post a negative review. Anyone sitting begins a keyboard can do such. Reviews are out of touch and outdated. I do, however, enjoy the opportunity to educate the public on how contracts work and what should be expected of each side. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps.
