I recently spoke to a tax ***resentative from this company named ****** **** who made me feel confident that I was eligible for either total tax forgiveness or at the very least lower my debt considerably. I signed a document stating it will cost 500 down in order for them to get all the necessary information from the *** regarding my debt. I could only pay 200 at the time, but apparently it got the ball rolling because whenever I go on the app and login to my profile it says they are waiting on transcripts. My concern is I have yet to be contacted by the *** it was assigned to, and my calls, texts and emails are not responded to. I received a text yesterday saying the audio for the company's phone system was currently not working and they would give a call as soon as that was fixed. I am really worried that they will take another payment from my bank in 6 days from today and I won't get the help I was promised.Business Response

Tax rise was supposed to have kept the irs from taking our tax returns even though we owed the irs money. We paid tax rise around 500$ in May of 2024 and have been paying a 102$ a month to a 3rd party bank for a loan that was made through tax rise to finish out the remaining ***** + dollars that we owe tax rise for there help. The *** has been sending us letters in the mail of money we owe them and in return we have been sending the irs letters to taxrise. Come February 2025 we was looking for our tax returns and come to find out the *** took them for money we owed them that tax rise was supposed to have handled the problem and didn't. *** we are still out the money that we have to pay the 3 party business for the loan to pay tax rise.Business Response

We appreciate *** and Mrs. **** for reaching out to us regarding this matter. While we cannot prevent tax refunds from being applied to outstanding liabilities, there are ways to minimize the likelihood of this happening. A tax refund typically indicates that too much has been withheld throughout the year, and adjusting tax withholdings can help ensure that neither an overpayment nor an underpayment occurs. This could help prevent getting a return each year and as a result that overpayment amount would not be collected by the ***. Since the filing of this complaint, *** and Mrs. **** have had the opportunity to speak with representatives from our ***************** team. During these discussions, we reviewed the work completed on their case, including the attempt to secure a hardship resolution that would have eliminated the need for payments on their liability. Since that option was declined, we proceeded with the next best available resolution. Although we have fulfilled our contractual obligations, we remain committed to client satisfaction and are actively exploring possible solutions. A representative will be following up today to discuss potential options to address their concerns.Customer Answer

After speaking with our ***************** representative, we were able to review the compliance details outlined in the service agreement, which explain that the *** may apply any tax returns toward an existing balance. Additionally, our representative clarified that we successfully positioned you for a hardship program; however, you ultimately chose not to proceed due to certain requirements. My *********** employed tax rise to assist with tax issues in September 2023. We have not heard back from anyone regarding our situation. They have lost our information, continued to transfer our files to multiple people & now will not answer phones or return calls after several attempts. We now have paid for services, have no answers & a tax lien we were promised wouldnt happen.Business Response

*** and Mrs. ******* spoke with one of our representatives today, who provided them with an update on their case and confirmed that their resolution was ready to be submitted to the ***. During this conversation, they informed us of a significant change in their financial situation. Since this change could impact the outcome of their case, they have scheduled a follow-up with a case manager to review their updated financials. This will ensure that all factors are considered and that they are enrolled in the best possible resolution. They are set to speak with their case manager on Wednesday, 2/26/25. We appreciate their cooperation and look forward to assisting them further.Initial Complaint

On June 25, 2022, I signed paperwork with ****** ******* to obtain services from Tax Rise regarding a 2018 tax issue. The issue was I missed filing one of the years W2s and owed in $2,000 however, due to penalties and fees the amount jumped to $10,000. Feeling overwhelmed I signed up for these services needing the help of a professional. During consultation, which made me decide to sign up for the services, I was told that their aim was to reduce the amount as much as possible in an attempt to zero out the amount owed in. I was open to a reduction. I paid $500 as a deposit and each month $200 was deducted from my account for their Fresh Start Program. I paid $200 each month for a year. However, the resolution at the end of this was not what was anticipated. The Tax Rise representatives after all was said and done claimed that they could not obtain any reduction, but would only stop the *** from attempting to collecting the funds. This was not what was agreed upon when I invested thousands of dollars into the service.Business Response

Mrs. ******* had the opportunity to speak with our ***************** team on 2/24/25 to discuss the concerns mentioned in her complaint. During their conversation, our representative was able to explain to Mrs. ******* how we were able to place her in a hardship resolution and the benefits it provides, as well as the details of how the program works. Mrs. ******* was more accepting of the outcome of her case but had a few concerns and was unsure of the current status of her resolution, as she was placed in it in 2023. She asked for a call back the following day on 2/25/25, which our representative followed through with but was unable to get a hold of Mrs. ******* at their scheduled time. Our representative will attempt to contact her again but asks that Mrs. ******* please reach out at her earliest convenience so that we can address the rest of her questions and resolve this complaint.Initial Complaint

Contacted agency in 2024, started process in with company in March 2024. ****** to pay them $6300 to handle tax relief and submit taxes for 2023. Paid $375 on March 6, 2024 to start process. Was told they would submit all information to their tax preparations people and once reviewed, I could possibly only have to pay an extra $60/month towards past taxes and after 5 years whatever wasn't paid would be written off. Had to get a loan through their company for the $6300. Every month starting in April 2024, *************** takes $221.61 from my bank account towards the loan *** for them to process my information. Months later, I received an email and phone call wanting to review my case. Was then told I would have to pay over $1000/month for back taxes. I told them thats not what I was told in the beginning and I could have been paying this $200 towards my actual taxes every month instead I've been paying them to do nothing and lie to me. How can I get out of the loan and recoup monies that I've paid to them so I can pay the *** instead of this company that hasn't done anything to help reduce my back taxes?? The company is now telling me to wait to see what will "fall off" so I won't have to pay so much monthly and I still may end of having a lien on my property after I went through them just to prevent this.Business Response

I hired TaxRise back in Sept 2022 to file federal and all state tax returns for the years of 2021, 2022, and 2023. They did file a POA with *** on my behalf, but that's it. They never did any actual work! Fast forward 2 years, and all that has been accomplished is my submitting some documents and continuing to argue with them - while being assigned a new case manager about every 6 months, to restart the same process all over again. I finally got to the point in my divorce case that I couldn't postpone getting results any longer, and hired a private tax attorney. By the end of 2024, all tax forms have been filed and paid in full. TaxRise still did nothing. I request a full refund from them in Oct 2024, because they didn't deliver anything according to their own "100% Resolution Money-Back Guarantee". I get several different responses from several different people, until a single ***resentative is assigned to my case. However, he quit the company before anything was resolved (continued high turnover rate). Then it's back to getting tossed around by several people. I get told that they're "already out-of-pocket on this because of all the time put in" and that they will only give me a "courtesy refund" of $1250.00. I ask for an explanation of who did what and when, and how that would cost them more than I've already paid. The assigned *** (that quit) agreed to get me that documentation, but never did. Finally, I told them that I will no longer entertain any phone calls of any kind because I'm no longer playing the he said/she said game, and they're more than welcome to contact me in writing (via email), and that I will pursue legal ***ercussions if they don't issue me my rightful refund, and I requested any and all details of my account to be delivered in writing. They don't believe me and haven't done anything. This is my Step 1.Business Response

We appreciate Mrs. ********* taking the time to share her experience. We are committed to addressing her concerns and working toward a solution. However, we want to clarify that any discussions regarding a client satisfaction refund must take place over the phone.

As already communicated to Tax Rise, I will no longer communicate with them unless it is in writing. In the past, I complied with their requirements, but they kept passing me off to other people and changing their story. Now it's their turn to actually work with me. If there's no secret or issues, why won't they do so?? Because they don't want the issue to have a written record that's traceable. Too bad. I'm sick of their c*** If they really are a professional business, then they should act like it. What is this about ********************* Because I have yet to be assured of ANY quality from them.Business Response

Taxrise agent tried to convince me that they could significantly reduce my tax burden. After I asked for the parameters, I told the guy that I dont think I would qualify. The guy insisted and ran my $500 anyway. I call back later after noticing the money came out of my account and asked ********************** to refund me, I was told it was too late, the cancel period had passed. I told them I said that I was not going to go through with it and made it clear in the phone call. They went back and listened to the recording, supposedly, and said that I did agree. I asked if I could listen to the tape and I was denied. They straight up said, its our money now chump! I just hung up sad and $500 dollars poorer. On top of that, I still came away with no viable solutions from Taxrise to fix my tax burden.Business Response

This business is a scam. We paid $250 for help with our taxes. No one has reached back out to us regarding our taxes or the next step. They then tried to pull another $250 from my account after I canceled services. Currently it's been 3 weeks of trying to get my funds back. ***** won't respond via email. After speaking with Mrs. ******** she confirmed her request to cancel her case and receive a partial refund of her retainer fee on 2/7/25. While we did complete the tax investigation, the remaining agreed-upon payment was required before we could discuss the investigation results and was only attempted to be collected as she agreed to the retainer amount. However, her refund request was made well outside the window outlined in her signed service agreement. Despite the retainer fee being non-refundable per our policy, we have agreed to issue Mrs. ******* a client satisfaction refund. She can expect the refunded amount to reflect in her account within the next 3-5 business days. If any issues arise with refunding to the card on file, we will proceed with issuing her a check. Per her conversation with our representative, this matter has now been resolved.Initial Complaint

I owed $24,000 to the *** on 4/3/2024. I was going to contact the ***, but this website appeared named TaxRise. I called them and they originally said to me that they could get my taxes down to $8000. I looked them up on the BBB and it said A-. However, I should have looked at the complaints. I sent them $5175. I have been in contact with them, and they were always working with the attorneys on my case. I called last week and spoke to a representative, who said they would expedite it. On 2/13/25 I received a certified letter from the *** stating that I owed $31,323.58 as of 2/17/25 and that this was a notice of intent to seize (levy) my property or rights to it. Naturally, I called the *** to save my house. I reached a deal with them within 15 minutes. I was also informed TaxRise had never contacted the ***. Also, I was informed by the *** that these Tax relief companies can't do anything more than I can do. I immediately reached out to TaxRise and their Tax Organizing Officer reached out to me. She had the audacity to say that I was in "breach of contract" by contacting the ***. She wanted to know when I received this notice because I was to contact TaxRise right away. I did! Who wouldn't? This woman tried to put myself at fault. She said I should ignore that notice. WHAT?? I said to her, "So I'm supposed to listen to you and not the ***?" She said "yes". Then she said, the *** representative didn't know what she was talking about. To say I was floored is an understatement. I said I want a full refund yes or no? That was before I realized how much the interest accrued on my debt as of today. She would not respond to that question. This so-called "company" is a fraud. TaxRise cost mean additional $11,498.00. Almost half more of my original debt. They won't only save you money, they will cost you money. I am speaking to an attorney. Also, reporting TaxRise to ***, scam sites and who accredited the company. I want their license number.Business Response

We appreciate **** ****** taking the time to share her experience and allowing us the opportunity to address her concerns. We would like to clarify some important aspects of her case. Regarding IRS notices, its important to note that we cannot stop IRS correspondence, as these notices are automatically generated for anyone with a tax liability. As part of our process, we ask clients to forward any IRS notices to us immediately so that we can review them and take the appropriate steps to address them. Since we are representing **** ******, it is essential that we manage communications with the *** to ensure the best possible resolution for her case. To formally notify the *** of our representation, we submitted the Power of Attorney form that **** ****** signed when we started her case on 3/26/24. Per our service agreement, we also advise clients not to contact the *** directly, as this can sometimes interfere with our efforts to negotiate on their behalf. Since filing this complaint, **** ****** has been in contact with our ***************** team, which handles all cancellation and refund requests. After speaking with one of our representatives on 2/13/25, she agreed to a follow-up conversation with a ***************** supervisor on 2/14/25. Salesman, ******, lied about what they would do for the $500 I paid, they claim I don't owe money and thus they don't need to negotiate a settlement with the ***, however, the *** I paid to file my taxes could not find any way for me to not owe money, Tax Rise refused to send me a copy of the return their experts prepared that shows I can get money back. I had asked for a partial refund since they only did 1 of 3 things they said they would, ****** ignored my first 2 calls and email and when he did answer he said they would charge me more than we agreed upon for tax negotiation, pretty much a cut and dry breach of contract. What others have said about them is absolutely true, they're a scam, they will lie to get ur money, and won't make good on their promises.Business Response
