I used the services of Resume Nerd in the fall. I reached out to them to cancel my account as there is no way to make any changes online - they even direct you to contact their help email. They responded to me once, letting me know how my account was set up, would not incur charges...however here we are 4 months later and I am still getting monthly charges. I have emailed multiple times with bank proof of the charges, and proof I have a "free" account online. I have provided my account information to them. They have not responded to me at all, no reimbursement (4 separate charges of $34.75) and this feels like a massive scam.Business Response

We appreciate the opportunity to address ***** Murphys complaint.
Our records confirm that ***** ****** signed up for our resume-building services on October 21, 2024. At the time of enrollment, she was presented with three subscription options:
a) A 14-day trial at a discounted rate, automatically renewing to a monthly plan.
b) An annual plan, paid upfront, with no auto-renewal.
c) A three-month plan, paid upfront, with no auto-renewal.
***** ****** selected the 14-Day Trial Offer for CAD 2.75, which, as clearly stated on the selection page, auto-renews at CAD ***** every four weeks. The purchase confirmation page reiterated this, specifying that the subscription would begin immediately and renew on November 4, 2024, at CAD ***** per month. Additionally, a confirmation email was sent to (karenamurp**@*********), outlining the renewal details and cancellation instructions. On November 4, 2024, ***** Murphys card was charged CAD *****.
Our records indicate that she also created a second, free basic account under a different email address (karenafish**@*********). She was notified via email about this account. To resolve this matter, we canceled the active subscription associated with the charged account, and a system-generated cancellation confirmation email was sent. If she has not received it, we recommend checking the spam folder.
Although our charges are non-refundable per our Terms and Conditions, we have made an exception and refunded four charges of CAD ***** on February 3, 2025. As of this date, ***** ****** has been refunded CAD ******. Please advise her that it may take up to seven business days for the funds to appear in her bank account.
We trust this resolves any concerns.Customer Answer

On 12/14 I paid 2.75 to get my resume. It was said that at the end of one month I would be charged *****. However it has not been one month and my card was charged today. This has put me in a terrible situation that has my account in the negatives. This is not ideal especially after the holidays. I am requesting a refund of the monthly fee as this was extremely misleading and betraying. I would like a refund of ***** and will feel happy and satisfied when the business reflects this.Business Response

I recently purchased an initial plan for $2.75 from Resume Nerds on 09/20/2024, with the understanding that the next billing cycle would occur at the end of the month. However, I was charged the full monthly fee before completing one month, and I did not receive any notice regarding this charge. This unexpected transaction has left me feeling misled, as I was under the impression that I had more time before the monthly charge would be applied. I am requesting a complete refund of the monthly fee, as the charge was both premature and unauthorized. I believe this situation reflects poor billing transparency and would appreciate your prompt attention to resolve this matter. Thank you.Business Response

For over a period of two years, Resumenerd has been charging me while I never used their services (not even once). I signed up for the trial but never signed on. I didnt know I was being charged for over two years until recently. I reached out and they only did 5 refunds of $34.75. They said there was approval to only refund these five and I will not be getting any further refunds.Business Response

Hello,Thank you for sending their response. I am writing in response to Resume Nerds explanation regarding the unauthorized charges to my account for nearly two years without my explicit consent. While they claim I was informed about the automatic renewal of their subscription service, I would like to address several critical points that have been overlooked and emphasize why I should be refunded the full amount, based on both legal principles and best business practices.Firstly, informed consent is a foundational principle in contract law. In this case, while the company alleges that I was provided with the terms of the automatic renewal at multiple points, I categorically deny ever having been made aware of these repeated charges over such an extended period. As per the Competition Act and Consumer Protection Legislation in ******, consumers must be fully and transparently informed about the nature of subscription services, including auto-renewal. Any ambiguity or failure to properly disclose this information, or to ensure I was aware of the ongoing charges, invalidates the legitimacy of these deductions.
Secondly, the company claims that I should have been aware of and canceled the subscription if I no longer required their services. However, given that no service was ever rendered to menot a single resume was deliveredthis subscription was, in effect, without purpose. Under contract law, specifically the doctrine of consideration, a service provider is obligated to deliver services in exchange for payment. If no service is provided, the grounds for retaining payment disappear. It is unreasonable, and arguably unlawful, for a company to charge for services that were never delivered, regardless of the subscription terms.
Further, this situation involves unjust enrichment, which occurs when one party unfairly benefits at the expense of another. The company has continually withdrawn funds for a service that was not performed, constituting an unfair advantage that goes against good faith in commercial transactions.
Additionally, even if one could argue that the subscription terms were agreed upon, best practice in customer service and subscription management mandates that businesses should notify customers when a service is not being actively used, especially in cases of long-term, recurring charges. This is an industry-standard practice followed by most reputable service providers. Had they acted in good faith, the company would have notified me much earlier, thereby preventing the accumulation of nearly two years of charges for services I neither used nor received.
While I appreciate the partial refund of CAD ******, this amount does not cover the full extent of unauthorized charges. I request the Bureau to consider the fairness of my situation and compel the company to issue a complete refund for the entire duration during which charges were made without any corresponding service being rendered. This would not only align with legal precedent but also uphold the principles of fair trading and consumer protection. Also, as the matter has extended and caused me distress, financial loss, time and effort, I am considering asking for compensation in addition to a full refund. I would like to explore that further with the burea as you have been a helpful point of contact and is attempting to aid in this dispute resolution.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a favorable resolution.

We appreciate the opportunity to address ****************'s complaint.
After carefully reviewing our records, we confirm that Shafta P. signed up for our resume-building services on June 23, 2024. Our website offers the following subscription options:
a) Full access for 14 days at a discounted rate, automatically renewing to a monthly plan at a monthly fee.
b) An annual plan, paid upfront, providing year-long access without automatic renewal.
c) A three-month plan, paid upfront, providing access for three months without automatic renewal.
Shafta P. chose the 14-Day Trial, as indicated on the selection page. Directly below the subscription options, it states, "Auto-renewal after a 14-day trial at $23.75 every four weeks." Additionally, the purchase confirmation page disclosed that the subscription would "begin immediately and renew on July 7, 2024, to our monthly service at $23.75 per month." This page also provided information on how to cancel before the monthly charge.
On June 24, 2024, Shafta P. inquired about the $2.75 charge. We offer both free and paid subscriptions. Our basic access allows users to create and download a plain text resume using our examples and tips. However, to download, print, or email a professionally formatted resume using our copyrighted templates in PDF or Word format, a subscription is required. ******************** Purchased the 14-trial subscription for $2.75.
Shafta P. purchased the services on June 23, 2024, and requested a refund on June 24, 2024. We apologize for the delay in our response. Shafta P. canceled the subscription on June 23, 2024, and was refunded $2.75 on July 2, 2024. Please advise Shafta P. to allow up to seven business days from the processing date for the refund to reflect in their bank account.

I have been told my customer support that there is no "add section" feature for their cover letter service. However, for potential buyers, the company indeed does advertise the exact feature I need and have been asking customer service about. They are falsely adverstising a feature "add new section" to buyers, when the company does not have this feature and refuses to provide it.Business Response

On September 28th, 2023, I used this service to create a resume. The site offered a 14-day trial for $2.75 (which I purchased) and asked for credit card details. The service supposedly normally costs $23.75 for every 4 weeks. I did not cancel the subscription. I checked my transactions through my banking app, and it shows that I have a running balance of $296.78 with them. Mathematically, it is impossible that I have accrued such a balance given the timeline in which I have been using this service.Business Response

Thank you for providing us with the opportunity to address the concerns raised by *************************.
Upon thorough review of our records, we did not find any indication of the mentioned amount, $296.78. Our investigation revealed that the account was billed a total of $71.25, covering the period from the initial subscription on November 28, 2023 (with an initial charge of $2.75), up to the cancellation on December 10, 2023 (cancellation number: 304943426).
It's important to note that ***************** was billed three times monthly, each for the amount of $23.75. We sent detailed information regarding the account to ***************** on December 11, 2023, on behalf of the ResumeNerd Team. Regrettably, the disputed amount does not align with our records.
We eagerly await your further response to facilitate the resolution of this matter with *****************. If there are any additional details or concerns, please do not hesitate to share them with us. We are committed to reaching a satisfactory resolution.
