I am writing to bring to your attention a concerning incident involving a recent construction project on my property. I believe it is necessary to file a complaint against the contractor, Carport Anywhere, involved due to their unethical practices and failure to ensure the structural integrity of the building. The construction project involved the erection of a large steel structure, designed to withstand high wind speeds of up to 180 mph. The building successfully passed the city inspection; however, it was later discovered that the contractor intentionally cut the bottom screw of the anchors, as confirmed in an email exchange with the contractor. This deliberate action compromised the strength and stability of the structure. The contractor concealed these cuts in an attempt to bypass strict city inspection requirements. Unfortunately, the consequences of their actions became evident during the recent hurricane when the structure detached and caused significant damage to surrounding property. Not only did the contractor's deceptive practices put people's lives in danger but they also resulted in substantial financial loss. Had there been individuals near the structure when it detached, there could have been potential injuries or even fatalities. This is an alarming situation, and I believe it is essential that proper action is taken to address the contractor's negligence. I am reaching out to the Better Business Bureau in the hope that you will investigate this matter thoroughly. It is crucial to hold the contractor accountable for their actions and ensure that they are appropriately reprimanded. Additionally, it is essential to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Thank you for your attention to this complaint. I trust that the Better Business Bureau will take appropriate action to address this situation promptly and ensure that the contractor is held accountable for their unethical actions.Business Response

to whom it may concern:
We appologize for the late response to this case:
This customer reached out to ********************** (the manufacturer) in October 2022 following the devastation caused by the hurricane, which resulted in significant damage to his building. At the time, the custoer mentioned that some of the ground anchors had been cut, and he provided photos to support his claim. We made efforts to communicate with the customer, explaining that we could offer a replacement structure at cost and advised him to file the claim with his homeowners insurance. Unfortunately, he did not have insurance coverage for the building.
The customer also mentioned that the damage to his property exceeded $45K. In response, a claim to both Carports Anywhere (the manufacturer) insurance and the installers insurance, but unfortunately, both were unable to provide coverage due to the storm being a named Category 4 hurricane. The original dealer/installer, Popes, also engaged with the customer to discuss the situation. It appears that after these efforts did not lead to the resolution the customer hoped for, he chose to share his concerns with the BBB the following year.
We are truly sorry that this natural disaster occured out of our control and only hope for the best!

Complaint: 20332993
I am rejecting this response because:
At first, I paid extra to break a small concrete pad, so 6 of the anchors could be installed underground, instead the anchors were cut, I also paid extra for the building to withstand 180 mph wind with 48 inches long anchors, but there were an anchor only 30 inches long! The city Inspectors and myself could not see the issue underground.
Shortly after the hurricane, CarportsAnywhere confirmed by email the anchors were cut by the installation crew, more than 20 of the 25 anchors had their s**** like plate removed, making mainly this huge building just pinned in the ground (not restrained) and just resting on its own weight!!
CarportsAnywhere did not follow standard procedure for install, did not install the anchors requested and after the hurricane never offered a replacement structure; did not refund the cost of the building they promised to refund; after, they said they filed an insurance claim, but I never heard more about that; their dealer/installer, Popes, also never contacted or assisted me for this issue.
This issue has never been resolved!Regards,
Stephane Rome

Subject: Response to Complaint ID ********Dear Ms. ******************** style="font-size: 0.875rem;">We appreciate the opportunity to respond to this complaint and clarify the facts surrounding this situation.
Hurricane-Related Damage:
The customer, Stephane ***** reached out to ********************** in October 2022 after his building sustained damage from a Category 4 hurricane.
While we regret the loss he experienced, it is important to note that the storm was an uncontrollable natural disaster that would have put significant strain on any structure, regardless of its design or installation.
Customer Claims Regarding Anchors:
The customer alleges that anchors were cut by the installation crew, which he states compromised the integrity of the structure.
Our records indicate that at the time of installation, the building passed city inspection, which suggests that all requirements were met.
Additionally, if there were structural concerns regarding anchors at the time, these should have been addressed immediately after installation, not retroactively after a natural disaster.
Our Response & Offers to Assist:
When the customer initially reached out, we reviewed photos and communicated with him regarding potential solutions.
We advised him to file a homeowners insurance claim, but unfortunately, he did not have coverage for the structure.
As a goodwill gesture, we offered a replacement structure at cost, which was a significant effort on our part to assist him despite the situation being out of our control.
Insurance & Third-Party Involvement:
A claim was submitted to both Carports Anywheres insurance and the installers insurance for coverage.
Unfortunately, both claims were denied due to the storm being classified as a Category 4 hurricane.
The original dealer/installer, Popes, was also in contact with the customer regarding the situation.
Clarification on Miscommunication:
The customer states that we promised a refund, but our records do not reflect any commitment to a full refund.
We offered a cost-based replacement, which was not accepted by the customer.
Additionally, there were no installation concerns raised immediately after constructionall issues were brought up only after the hurricane damage occurred.
Conclusion & Resolution Stance:
While we understand the customers frustration and loss due to the hurricane, we stand by our previous responses and believe we made every reasonable effort to assist within our capabilities. The damages appear to be a result of an extreme weather event rather than an installation defect.
We reaffirm that:
? The building passed city inspection at the time of completion.
? The alleged anchor issues were not raised until after the storm damage occurred.
? We offered a replacement structure at cost as a goodwill measure.
? Insurance claims were filed but denied due to the storms severity.
? We did not commit to a refund, but we did attempt to find a resolution.
At this time, we do not believe further action is warranted on our part. Please advise.Thank you,

Complaint: 20332993
I am rejecting this response because:
After the building was installed, the city inspector did not dug out anchors from underground to check the integrity, so the city inspector and I did not know that anchors were cut by the installation crew, and there was an anchor only 30 inches long not 48 inches required, this explained the catastrophic collapse of ***** building during the hurricane, it's obviously an installation defect. No other building, including similar sheds, had collapsed in the area.
In Novemb
er 2022, I contacted CarportsAnywhere ******* *********. She wrote in an email to me: "We have reviewed the install photos with the installation crew, they stated that the area for install was asphalt, however below the asphalt he was entering a footer of concrete, he stated he had no choice but to cut into the anchor. This is not our standard procedure for install, due to this. The installation crew will be reimbursing you for the cost of the building. Where would you like this sent?
In this email, CarportsAnywhere admitted it was an installation defect and they also did commit to a refund.
In fact, only 6 of the total 25 anchors were placed over concrete and I paid an extra fee to break the concrete, but the installation crew still cut at least 21 anchors. Again, it's obviously an installation defect.
I reaffirm that: I paid an extra fee to break the concrete to install anchors, the city inspector and I did not know that underground anchors were cut by the installation crew. CarportsAnywhere admitted building was an installation defect by email.
CarportsAnywhere did commit to a refund and did not offered a replacement structure by email.
In January 2023, I inquired for an update regarding this insurance claim, but I never heard back from them until now, 2025.
The original dealer, Popes, did not contact me regarding the situation.
This issue has never been resolved!
Sincerely,
Stephane Rome

I purchased a metal garage from Carports Anywhere. Building was completed on June 15. On June 22 the building failed the county inspection. Now a month later, no one has viewed the building nor addressed the problem. The building failed inspection due to not be built to the approved drawings. All I ask is that they repair the problem so I can move on. I am a 72 year old disable Vietnam War veteran that maybe they think I will just go away. Several attempts to work with this company have failed, I need help. Thanks for your time.Business Response

*** *******,
We have received your complaint; we apologize that the building failed the inspection. ****** in our office has spoken with you twice in regard to the failed inspection and how we were handling this with ******** ******. In addition, we sent the local dealer out to your site to take photos which were provided to our engineer. The building did not fail due the way in which it was built, this was a request from the inspector asking for clarification on one of the generic drawings. This was submitted to the county as requested and as of today the building has been marked finialed final with ******** ******. We will follow this response up with another phone call to both you and your local dealer to ensure you understand. Please note, this was NOT due to the way the structure was installed. We have made no modification onsite to the building and the building has passed. This was an issue between our plans and the county inspector. Unfortunately, we are not able to control the county inspection time frame to resolve. We certainly appreciate your business .
