We had our roof singles replaced in November of 2017 and the roofing company used Tamko shingles. Since we've had the roof replaced the granule loss has been severe even before hurricane Ian! I tried to email Tamko and they sent me paperwork saying I have to have a roofer come out and pay $200 which they will reimburse me to get the roofer to go up and get three shingles off of my roof and send it to them. I told them I feel like it's their responsibility since I am on a fixed income and I don't have $200 out of pocket to spend since it's their product they need to have someone come out they told me they don't have anyone that can do that! I feel that as a customer I should have the right to have someone from that company since it's their product come out to my house and take a look at what's going on I am still having granule loss and it's 2023TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO is always happy to assist with warranty claims; however, TAMKO does not have personnel nationwide to remove and mail 2 shingle samples to TAMKO's lab for each claim. TAMKO provides a large self-address shingle envelope with the claim kit which is mailed to each customer who initiates a shingle warranty claim and requests the customer to have a professional roofer safely remove 2 shingle samples and take photographs of the issue. Once the claim is fully investigated and it is determined the issue was caused by a manufacturing issue, TAMKO will reimburse the customer $200 for providing the shingle samples and photographs. The homeowner's cooperation is vital to properly and timely administer each claim in accordance with the limited warranty. I would urge the homeowner to comply with the detailed instructions in the claim kit and provide all the materials necessary to administer the claim.Review fromAmerican R

I’m a general roofing contractor who up until recently used Tamko shingles! I had Tamko titan shingles installed on my customers roof, and the customer tried to make a claim through the warranty department 2 months after install and they rejected him even though the shingles that were installed on his roof was a bad, defective batch, (was told this by my supplier) and they were cupping all over his roof they still rejected the claim! If this is the way, TamKo is going to deal with my customers I decided not to buy Tamko shingles anymore until they can make this right!TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO records do not indicate any claim has been received for Titan shingles that exhibited cupping in Louisiana. Titan has been a very popular shingle so if someone is having this type of issue, we certainly want to know about it and will gladly start a claim, Please send an email with you customer's name and address and we will dig into this immediately.Review fromIvan Y

TAMKO absolutely honors (and abides by) the limited warranty that is associated with the sale of TAMKO shingles. TAMKO's files do not show a claim initiated by the individual who submitted this review but if he will send an email to [email protected] we will look into your claim and get back with you immediately.Review fromKimberly N

I ordered a mobile home and Tamko shingles were the product they put on and when we received our mobile home we then eventually realize that the shingles were old very very old! So sad that a company can do such Shady business I put in for them to replace my shingles for new ones and they denied me! Save your money this company is a scam.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO manufactures shingles which are sold to distributors who sell them to contractors and customers. TAMKO does not install shingles or dictate what shingles (or the age of the shingles) on structures anywhere. We simply manufacture quality shingles. I hope this clears up the confusion regarding TAMKO not having a role whatsoever on the age of shingles installed on your mobile home.Review fromBRIAN H

We had professionally installed TAMKO Lamarite 50-year shingles. After 14 years they began cracking. In year 16 it got so bad we pursued the warranty so we could replace all the shingles. TAMKO created an extravagant warranty procedural list that included paying for shipping of at least 2 of their heavy shingles. And they gave themselves the option to deny our claim for any reason. Lamarite shingles were discontinued by TAMKO because they failed, and yet they still require their past customers to prove their deficiencies. TAMKO is not a customer friendly company. Avoid their products.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO's process for warranty claims is consistent with other warranty process. Samples are needed to prove 1) the actual manufacturer of the product (TAMKO receives many samples that turn out to be manufactured by other companies); and 2) if there is a manufacturing issue present as it administers warranty claims in accordance with the limited warranty that was applicable at the time of purchase.Review fromDiane I

In 2009 we replaced our roof with Tamko 30 year shingles. At that time apparently the warranty was printed on the shingle packaging. We never saw it as that packaging went to the landfill. We were very assured by the roofer that these were 30 year shingles. As a matter of fact we upgraded to them. Now little over 12 years and these shingles are failing. I filled a claim and they sent a certificate for replacement shingles for only half the roof with no argument that these shingles were defective and a $200 check for labor. How does a company have the right to claim they manufacture a 30 year shingle when they fail less than half that many years? And then why should I not get the whole roof replaced including labor when a product is considered defective? I do not recommend these shingles or this company to anyone.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

I am sorry your roofer did not provide you a copy of your limited warranty. TAMKO does what it can to make the limited warranty available to prospective customers who care to review it. Besides printing the limited warranty on every wrapper of shingles TAMKO manufactures, the limited warranty is also printed in brochures that are provided to TAMKO distributors and available online at TAMKO.com so prospective homeowners (and their contractors) have the opportunity to read and compare our limited warranty to others as they consider which brand of shingles to buy. Your applicable 30-year limited warranty has a Full Start Period of five (5) years from the date of purchase in which TAMKO provides a certificate for replacement shingles and a certificate for the reasonable cost of labor to install them (excluding tear-off, removal and disposal of old shingles). Your Full Start Period expired in 2014. After the Full Start Period has expired, the limited warranty states that TAMKO will provide a certificate for replacement shingles prorated to take into account the amount of time the shingles have been in use on the roof. The limited warranty proration takes into account that the shingles performed for the expired portion of the limited warranty term - in your case, going on 14 years. Settling claims in accordance with the limited warranty helps ensure all of TAMKO customers are treated fairly and equally by sticking to the limited warranty associated with each individual purchase.
Please also note - the length of the term of your limited warranty is for 30-years. That is not the predicted life of the shingles. Shingles begin aging as soon as they are exposed to the elements of nature. The length of time the shingles will continue to perform their intended function of sheading water will depend on many factors, including weather, snow, intensity of UV rays from the sun, pollution, debris from nearby trees and other environmental factors which vary greatly in different environments and in different geographical locations. This is why it is difficult to predict how long shingles will last on every home which is why TAMKO offers a limited warranty and provides a remedy throughout the 30-year term in the event of a manufacturing defect which causes the shingles to fail to shed water.
Although you are not happy with the remedy offered under the terms of the limited warranty, I hope this helps explain the rationale behind the limited warranty.Review fromPeter A

I am a roofing contractor that installed a Tamko Titan shingle in May, 2022 that was defective, my supplier (***************************) had informed me they had to return 1000's of bundles back to the company on this particular run of shingles and that Tamko is aware of the problem. The customer has been going thru the warranty claim process since June which is going on 4 months!!! If they know these shingles are defective why make a customer wait for so long, after having the roof installed only for a month??? Tamko is unprofessional with the warranty process, they had a recall on this shingle and know it's defective and as of 9/2/22 my customer still has not received any compensation for his defective roof, nor has heard back from the warranty department in over a month! Needless to say it reflects on me since I'm the installer, and I will not purchase another Tamko shingle again because of their slow moving warranty process! Their own representative told me on the phone that he can't get much done either! So if their own employees are frustrated with the company they work for, and can't get positive results for their customers or contractors, what does that reflect about the company commitment to quality service? I've been in the roofing business over 30 years and have never encountered such incompetence!!!
I'm sure Tamko will respond with some lame defense, however this is the second claim I have had on this same run of shingles, and the other claim was also very slow and that customer didn't use me for the warranty replacement because of Tamko's horribly slow warranty process, which reflected on my company!!! Because of them, I am losing customers and getting a bad reputation for putting on their defective shingles!!!TAMKO Building Products, LLC

Buyer Beware when using Tamko!
I'm a real estate professional and represented a couple on the purchase of their new home in Brighton, Colorado. During our inspection period, it was found out that the roof shingles were through Tamko and they were defective and had been recalled. The current owner (the seller) worked with us to file a complaint with Tamko to have the roof inspected with their own inspectors. Tamko said the entire process of reviewing & replacing the roof would take 4-6 weeks which would be long after the closing of the home, but we need not worry because in the State of Colorado, the roof warranty that the owner had would automatically transfer to the new owners. Communication was barely existent and hard to come by from a Tamko representative.
After closing, the neighboring unit (it's a duplex) received word that their roof would be replaced due to the defective shingles but they would not yet approve my clients side of the roof, thus holding up both sides of the duplex owners. Now when we reach out for information, we are told we aren't the names on the home warranty (well duh, they knew the home was being sold) and they won't give anyone, any information. This is fraudulent and you'd think they'd would learn after already using defective shingles on their roofs. It's been a nightmare and now the current owners can't get the new roof replacement that they are due under Tamko's very own warranty for defective shingles.

Since 1944, the TAMKO story has been one of innovation, quality and long-standing customer relationships. TAMKO has never had a recall of its shingles.
In the event of shingles having a manufacturing defect resulting in leaks, a claim is initiated by the lawful owner of the property. It is important TAMKO communicate and deal with the lawful owner, in part, to obtain proper consent to enter the property (if needed) and settle the claim (if warranted) with the proper party who lawfully owns the property. When a home is in the process of being sold to another party iin the middle of the claim process, if can get confusing on who the proper party who can give permission and make decisions regarding the shingle claim and TAMKO carefully vets each situation to ensure the rightful and current lawful owner is fully involved in administering the claim.
TAMKO abides by the terms of the applicable limited warranty and state law when administering all warranty claims, including the claim referred to above. The implication that TAMKO has acted fraudulently in the claim is completely baseless and without merit. TAMKO will administer this above-stated claim in accordance with the limited warranty.Kelly T

It's amazing you responded to my review faster than you've responded to the owners requests for information. The original claim was made the week of April 27. 2022 and the new owners have owned the home since May 20, 2022. What's your response to it taking so long without a resolution? It's now August 29, 2022.Review fromCarl T

I filed a claim on 06/27/22 and have had little communication from them. It is now 08/4/2022 and we are in the process of selling our home on 08/31/22. There is no way to reach a real person. Everything is done by email. We are now stressing because this will jeopardize the sell of our house.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

We contacted Tamko regarding defective 25 year shingles. We supplied them with images of delamination over 70% of our roof as evidence of a manufacturing defect. They denied our warranty claim without even sending anyone to look at our roof. Water leaks into our young daughter's room every time it rains, leaving her potentially susceptible to mold. We reached out to Better Business Bureau to mediate a resolution and Tamko again refused to consider our warranty claim. Tamko does not stand by their products and I would never use a Tamko product again. We will be contacting a lawyer to see what our options are. I am curious about why the customer below was given a remedy when my claim for the exact same manufacturing problem was denied.TAMKO Building Products, LLC

TAMKO provides a limited warranty as part of the purchase of TAMKO shingles. The limited warranty provides a remedy to the original consumer purchaser in the event a manufacturing defect causes leaks. The limited warranty is referenced in TAMKO's marketing materials, available on our website and printed on the outside of the wrapper of every bundle of shingles so purchasers (and their contractors) can familiarize themselves with its terms as they consider which brand of shingles to buy. TAMKO's limited warranty, like most warranties that span periods of years, have limitations on the transferability of the limited warranty to subsequent home buyers. Notice of TAMKO's limitation of the transferability is conspicuously printed on the top of the limited warranty.
Mr. and Mrs. *************** reportedly purchased the house in 2013 and the shingles where installed in 2010 and neither the *************** nor the original purchaser of the shingles transferred the limited warranty when the house was sold. Therefore, there is no coverage available to the *************** under the limited warranty.
TAMKO's rationale for the limitation of the transfer of the limited warranty, in part, is based on the fact that subsequent owners of a home have the opportunity to inspect the home (and its component parts such as shingles), negotiate the purchase price, and make subjective adjustments to the price based upon the home's structural condition, market conditions, and various other factors. Specifically, a subsequent owner has the opportunity to inspect the roof and take any issues into account as part of the negotiation of the price of the home. It is part of the due diligence process in the purchase of a house that requires the purchaser to assume that responsibility and risk. (TAMKO obviously is not a party to such negotiations, does not know whether any adjustments to the purchase price should have been made or were in fact made due to the condition of the roof, and cannot determine if the subsequent homeowner negotiated a fair and reasonable purchase price for the home.) Therefore, TAMKO, like other shingle manufacturers, has chosen to provide a limited warranty that limits the transferability which is conspicuously printed on every bundle of TAMKO shingles and on the top of the limited warranty.
