As a 20 year Active Duty Military Retiree, and stuck with the worst medical insurance/benefit in the entire world….It is very disappointing…. Tricare is the root of all evil. They deny MUST HAVE care that is a matter of life and death. People are dying because of unwarranted denials for must have care and this is Murder….but Tricare is not held accountable and sentenced to prison for denial of care resulting in death. If you can avoid somehow, someway of using this corrupt medical insurance, I highly recommend you do it for yourself and loved one. The Federal Government sits back and lets this happen and does nothing to fix the problem… United Health Care Sucks They do not deserve even 1 star….

As a former military dependent, and then a retired military member, I have had some version of Tricare my entire life. After recently moving from one location to another within the Tricare East area, I was not aware that reporting my new address to Humana within a given date, as determined by Humana, was a condition of my ability to receive medical coverage. After realizing that it was required, I provided my new address. Several months later Humana pulled my medical coverage without my knowledge (they had my new address and my email and phone number never changed). I went to the ER for an emergency that was connected to a service related injury not thinking that I was uninsured. The hospital is now sending me to collections for a large bill that Humana will not cover. Now I understand that medical coverage is a privilege that Humana can take away from retired military members. Up until now I made the incorrect assumption that medical coverage was something that I earned by my service to my country.

My PCM (and family's) changed without prior notice. I called Tricare to change back to the original PCM and was on the phone for 1 Hr to only find out a few weeks later that the PCM change never took place. I tried to do the PCM change online and the URL link to do this is broken and Tricare refuses to address this issue. Horrible customer experience!

Ended up with work related injury that their advice line said should be treated within 24 hours. However, my on post facility was not accepting walk ins or sick call, and I had an orthopedic surgical follow up an hour a way the next day. Tricare told me since I was unable to schedule any appointments with my on post facility that I would have to pay urgent care costs out of pocket, said "oh well," and good bye. Not unlike my previous encounter with them in May, when I was injured and required stitches. Told me the best they could do was get me an appointment for stitches in 3-4 days or else id pay out of pocket. Had to spend an hour in the urgent care lobby, actively bleeding, with two different people, explaining that stitches in 3-4 days wasn't a feasible medical decision. Like all things military, it appears the DoD chooses the cheapest (and often worse) option rather than anything of quality for the servicemen.

Military insurance has gone down hill quickly! Received a referral from my PCM and it was denied because they were not in network. They are the only facility within a 75 mile radius. I found that out after I waited for two hours to be seen. So in the mean time, I get to suffer in pain while insurance denied claims until my PCM finds an orthopedic specialist to see me.

My experience has been horrible with Humana Tricare East. Every time you call you speak to a different person there is no continuity big problem with the company next I’ve been trying to get an MRI in the civilian network due to claustrophobia in an open MRI situation since August 31 when the doctor submitted the order. He has ordered many of these before including one on me and other patients yet they tell me they cannot approve it because some order number is missing. There’s no direct communication to the doctor about this and the patients in the middle. Trying to understand what the problem is and being the go-between between Humana and the hospital. This is not right they should be communicating with the ordering physician if there is an issue , I’m going to look for a different insurance. It’s disgraceful and disappointing that we have to be put in this position and I’m a medical person and I know how the system should be running.

I was referred to a clinic for care. Once I got the bill from the clinic, I had been to the clinic in the past & only paid $36, now I'm expected to pay nearly $400. I called Tricare & they said that even though my PCM sent the referral to the clinic for treatment Tricare did not receive the referral. I stated I had a copy of the referral but Zachary T. absolutely refused to accept. He stated that they "do not back date referrals" even though they had in the past. He even went on to say that in future it is my responsibility to make sure my PCM does their job properly in forwarding the referral to Tricare.

Will not cover my newborns medical bill because enrollment was 1 day over their policy due to the difficultly of obtaining the necessary birth records and visiting a DEERS station in rural Montana. CSR's claim nothing can be done and there isn't a supervisor to speak to. Thanks for nothing!

On multiple occasions, my covered family member was denied prescription coverage or service and received a bill because Humana Military is claiming an OHI is on the account. I have 2 instances of written confirmation from a customer representative that there is no OHI listed on my family member’s account. Yet this problem still persists, and I have to take time out of my free time with my family to call them and rectify this issue. This often occurs outside business hours and I am unable to reach a person who can help me with the problem. This is to the detriment to my family who then is denied coverage or treatment and instead has to endure pain or discomfort due to their ineptitude. I find this unacceptable; the same problem is never corrected despite following the guidance provided by the customer representatives, and I constantly have to check back with them to ensure they are actually doing what they said they would do (spoiler: usually they do not). We are always on time with payments yet they do not hold up their end of the deal. Do not recommend if you can help it, but unfortunately as service members our options can be limited.

Fourth time this year they show me with primary insurance that ended years ago (more than one primary care insurance). They send me multiple other healthcare provider forms to fill out, you do them and it seems like they never update your account. Today they denied to be the secondary payer on doctor bills based on their poor management of my family's accounts...now I have bills coming to me for payment because of their denials that are not valid. Call them and they "cannot talk to you"...after persistent requests to talk to a supervisor they were able to update my primary insurance provider. They work so hard not to pay for services that us Service Persons pay fees for now when it was "promised" to us 30+ years ago as a benefit. They care less if we are happy with their service!
