I have been trying to get a letter of my payoff either faxed or emailed to me and/or a title company that my brother and I closed with that needed this info to pay off the debt. I have been calling them several times a day for over a week and a half. I still have nothing. No letter or any type of document stating an amount I owe. How do they expect to be a debt collector if they aren't helping to get info for the debt to be paid? This has put a hardship on my family, we need this resolved so I can get my money from the company I'm closing with that was paying this debt off .

Stenger & Stenger, P.C. is in receipt of your BBB complaint # ******** wherein you indicate that you have been attempting to obtain a payoff letter for the remaining balance of your account for a week and a half, but have not received it, and that it has been a hardship on your family. Please note that our records indicate that the first request made for a payoff letter to be sent to a title company from our office was on November 6, 2023. RE:      BBB Complaint ID ********

      Dear ************:

Stenger & Stenger, P.C. is in receipt of your BBB complaint # ******** wherein you indicate that you have been paying a debt for a few months, but Stenger & Stenger wont assist in setting up an arrangement with your financial hardship.

Stenger & Stenger records indicate that a settlement arrangement was set up on July 10, 2023, wherein the outstanding debt would be settled for a discounted amount spread across three monthly payments, with a final payment due on September 30, 2023. While the Stenger & Stenger received your first two payments timely, the firm has pushed the due date of your third and final payment twice to its current due date of October 31, 2023, at your request. Stenger & Stenger is willing to assist by delaying a due date 30 days; however, it is firm policy to refrain from extending due dates over a month beyond their original due date. That being considered, the firm will agree to accept your final payment of the settlement arrangement by November 28, 2023. Failure to pay the final payment amount by this date will result in the settlement agreement being broken, and the remaining balance being due.

If you have any further questions or would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact our office at *************.  Regards, Stenger and Stenger,P.C.

Called in and tried to settle a debt, but was threatened by the company. The refused to offer a reasonable settlement but just a 5% reduction which is nothing. I tried to make a one time payment that was 40% of the debt which multiple others had taken. For some reason this lawyer is trying to steal your house instead of settling.

      Business response

      10/04/2023

Stenger & Stenger, P.C. is in receipt of your BBB complaint # ******** wherein you allege that you were threatened on your calls with the firm, that you did not receive notice of a lawsuit, and that Stenger & Stenger would not offer a settlement beyond a 5% discount.  Please note that settlements on outstanding debt are done as a curtesy to help resolve debts. Despite this, our records indicate you were able to settle this account the same day in which you filed this complaint, for a discount exceeding the 5% refenced in the complaint. Additionally, on or about June 20, 2023, the firm sent a letter giving you notice regarding the debt. This letter was sent prior to any action taken with the court. Firm has also reviewed all calls made on the file and did not find any evidence of threats. Now that you have paid the settlement amount in full, you may receive a letter confirming the settlement of the account. On Sept 1st I found out my check was being garnished for 25% for a judgment I was never informed about. When I called to get information and options to settle everyone I spoke to was rude and not helpful at all. One woman even told me I could pay half the balance at that time to have it removed and she repeated it multiple times. I was upset due to being a single mother and making so little that after the garnishment I was left with less than enough for my rent and utilities. My check was also less than half of the balance. I called back Tuesday Sept 5th with family assistance to pay the half of the balance to have it removed and was told no I had to pay half and then set up a payment plan so the other lied because she never once said anything about a payment plan or anything else other than paying half to have it removed. I therefore ended up having to pay the full amount and will still probably be garnished one more time because it takes them 7 to 10 business days to even issue the release of garnishment and that's the whole pay period. And then I'll have to wait to get it refunded through the courts. These businesses don't try to help anyone. The lady i made the payment to was the only nice and helpful one out of the group of them but it's ridiculous they don't care if families are starving or losing homes or any such effects in these situations even when the person is trying to settle and work with them. The woman i talked to on Tues is the only one I would even consider trying to settle with the others were so cold and liars.

Stenger & Stenger, P.C. is in receipt of your BBB complaint # ******** wherein you indicate that you were offered half off to release your garnishment, but it was not honored. Please note that the offer made on the September 1st 2023 call was half the balance as a downpayment, with a payment plan arrangement for the remaining amount. The call agent specified this would be a downpayment to start the garnishment release process. As you have since made significant payment(s) on the account, ********************** & Stenger will file the necessary paperwork with the court to release the garnishment. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact our office at **************.  Regards, Stenger and Stenger, P.C.
