In May 2023, Better Business Bureau questioned NationwideAssistance’s direct mailer and website, www.nationwideassistance.com, which stated:

    "HOMEWARRANTY NOTIFICATION"

    "FINALNOTICE"

    "Expirationdate: 5/11/2023"

"Thisletter is to inform you that the property’s home warranty may be expiring ormay have already expired."

"Ourrecords indicate that you HAVE NOT CONTACTED us yet to get your Home Warrantyup to date."

"Pleasecall IMMEDIATELY as this will be our FINAL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY YOU."

"Withouta home warranty in place you are at risk of being financially liable for anyand all repairs"

    "ImmediateResponse Requested"

According to BBB Code ofAdvertising, “The primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptiveadvertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared tosubstantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication orbroadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly tothe advertising medium or BBB. Advertisements which are untrue, misleading, deceptive, fraudulent, falsely disparaging of competitors, or insincere offersto sell, shall not be used. An advertisement as a whole may be misleading byimplication, although every sentence separately considered may be literallytrue. Misrepresentation may result not only from direct statements, but byomitting or obscuring a material fact.

BBB questioned the false sense of urgency and asked the business tomodify, substantiate or discontinue its advertising claims.  The businessresponded, but did not modify, substantiate or discontinue the claims.
