Current Alerts For This Business
On June 17, 2020, Better Business Bureau recognized a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding the lending services provided by Target Cash Now. Consumers allege borrowing money from the business and having to pay back much more than they borrowed due to the interest rates attached to the loan.
On June 17, 2020, BBB reached out to Target Cash Now with the following suggestions, and requesting a response to the consumer complaints:
- The APR should be clearly visible above or next to "Click here to apply" on your website
- Your website should clearly show a consumer the full amount they will be required to pay if they borrow “X” amount of money, example:
“$500 Loan Paid Bi-weekly
10 Month Term
21 Bi-weekly Payments of $140.22
725% APR
Total Payment $2,804.40”
On July 06, 2020, Target Cash Now responded to Better Business Bureau with the following:
“Target Cash Now is in receipt of BBB’s review letter dated June 17, 2020, which was received by us on June 23, 2020. We take all comments, complaints, and reviews (good or bad) very seriously and will address the items noted. First, we would like to take this opportunity to provide you with some background information on our company, its business practices, and our actions in response to your letter. Target Cash Now is committed to complying with the spirit of all applicable federal laws and the laws of the Fort Belknap Indian Community.
Regarding our products and their terms and conditions (including repayment options), they are all explained at the time of loan origination. Target Cash Now discloses the total cost to a borrower if only the minimum payment schedule is followed, and we inform our customers that this is an expensive form of borrowing. We also encourage customers to pay off early with no pre-payment penalty to save on interest charges.
As to the APR, it is disclosed both on the Target Cash Now website, as well as the loan documents that are reviewed and signed by the customer. All rates and loan fees are prominently displayed within the loan contract and are acknowledged at each point by mandatory electronic signature. Furthermore, we advise our customers that our products should be used as a short-term source of funds – not a long-term financial solution.
Out of all the complaints received during the last twelve months, only one (1) response was not accepted by a complainant. Most importantly, to put the volume of complaints in perspective, the complaints received over the last twelve (12) months make up less than 0.07% of Target Cash Now’s originated loans during that time.
Regardless of the above, Target Cash Now appreciates the BBB reaching out, as we always strive to offer a superb product and the best customer experience possible. Target Cash Now specifically understands the importance BBB’s recommendations in above-referenced letter, and we would like to let you know that our website already has these recommendations implemented in a similar format. You can find this information by going to the Target Cash Now website and clicking on the Rates tab. From there, you will be able to use the Target Cash Now Payment Calculator to get an approximate payback amount. Furthermore, as previously mentioned, all rates and loan fees are prominently displayed within the loan contract and are acknowledged at each point by a customer’s mandatory electronic signature.
Thank you for the opportunity respond. As noted above, Target Cash Now is subject to robust consumer protection requirements, and we want to treat our customers well and ensure they are pleased with our product.
Better Business Bureau reminds consumers to read and understand Terms and Conditions when conducting financial transactions with a lending business.

I have had multiple loans with Target Cash Now in the past, and while their rates are ridiculous, I have always been able to pay the loan back in a short amount of time. I took out a $2000 loan on 1/17/23. The bi-weekly payments were $385.91, of which I made 2 payments. Unfortunately, I was laid off and unable to continue making bi-weekly payments. They sent me to collections after missing 1 payment. After borrowing money from family, I proposed to TCN to settle the account for the current principal amount (mind you, this is still over $1950, so, with that and the almost $800 in payments made, they are still making their money back. They offered a 10% discount, but that only brings it down to $2800. I would like TCN to accept the proposal of principal left on loan to close the account. While I understand the company wants to make their money, I have no income and feel I'm offering an acceptable solution to this predatory loan process.Business response

Dear BBB: On 7/30/2022 I entered into a loan agreement with Target Cash Now for $1,400. I obtained this loan as a last resort due to an unforeseen medical emergency, as the APR was a whopping 425% (in the event the loan was not prepaid), with a total of 11 monthly payments of $528.83 beginning 9/2/22. I made 3 complete payments on time of $528.83 but was laid off work and phoned *** concerning a hardship repayment plan as I had no steady income and was unable to make my 1/3/2023 payment. I spoke with a **************** Rep and was offered a 50% payment reduction of $264.40 on 1/3/23 which I accepted. I proceeded to make a $150 payment on 2/10/23 and accepted another 50% reduction for my 3/2/23 payment. I phoned *** ahead of my 4/3/23 payment and was instructed to revoke ACH if I could not make the payment owed as the rep said I could not set up a repayment plan since the acct. was in good standing. I called Acct Resolutions 4/4/23 as instructed to negotiate a revised payment schedule. The *** rep said she could not work on a repayment plan because it violated the terms of my initial agreement. What I did not know when I obtained this loan is that the interest rate as offered is illegal in the State of **. Governor ********************* signed the Predatory Loan Prevention Act in 2021 requiring all payday lenders (including tribal lenders) to comply with state caps on interest rates for loans issued online and that loans cannot exceed an interest rate cap of 36%. This loan is not enforceable in the State of ** but I wish to honor my debt. Meanwhile, I have paid $2,264.40 on the loan with a purported remaining balance of $2,216.21. I am requesting a reasonable repayment plan to pay off the initial loan principal with interest at or below the *** 36% cap over the course of 12 months, as lack of work and a chronic medical condition have created severe financial hardship. I cannot afford monthly payments of more than $100/month. Thank you for your assistance. *******************************Business response

Dear BBB Resolutions,
I received an email from the company (Target Cash Now) with whom I filed the complaint on 4/4/2023 (ID #********* referenced above. A TCN representative contacted me on 4/14/2023 via email and provided a PDF letter (see attached) detailing a proposed resolution.
I am satisfied with the company's response to my complaint, and the resolution offered, and wanted to provide you with an update as the company responded online via the BBB portal but will likely not respond again based on the comments the representative wrote.
While I would NOT recommend anyone engage in business with TCN, I am satisfied with the company's response and wanted to provide you with this updated information.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance in this matter!

My complaint is pretty simple. I have been paying back a loan I took out with this company for months now, paying over $1,500 so far on a $1,300 loan. I'm disabled and also suffer from poor vision and communication skills on the computer. They are stating I still owe them over $900. When I signed up for this loan I did not have my daughter with me. I showed her all of the paperwork and apparently I'm now being ripped off by this company that is charging over 700% interest. My daughter and I have spoken to ********** ************************ here in ******** and will also be filing a complaint this week with the *** if this is not resolved immediately. I'm requesting my account be closed and no future debits are made from my bank account, this complaint should serve as formal notice to Target Cash Now. Never would I have agreed to pay that amount of money back. Again I want my account closed as paid in full and NO FUTURE PAYMENTS to be taken from my bank account. If this is not honored I will have to pursue further action. This company should be shut down for taking advantage of the elderly and disabled.Business response

Target Now has been calling my phone number many times a day starting 2/23/23. I never applied for a loan thru them but they have all my info. I have emailed them to let them (******) know I did not apply and also called to ask for the fraud department and also let them know I never applied for a loan. He stated he could put me on a do not call list but I had to verify my last four of SS# and birth date. Told him that I didn't want to provide that info because of this reason right here. He said he had to verify that it was my account. I never applied for it so how you going to verify it? Now I go back to the account that was created on the website and the amount has changed. It was at $6,000 just 10 mins ago and now the loan is for $7,000.Business response

Target Cash Now should be avoided. They charge exorbitant interest rates. The rate I was given was 479% - totaling almost $3K in interest alone. This kind of lending should be illegal and they are not licensed to lend in **********. I have made consistent payments and never make a dent on the amount owed. As I have fallen sick and still tending to an ailing and sick parent, these types of companies prey on unsuspecting customers. However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.
When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this business, please let the business know that you contacted BBB for a BBB Business Profile.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation.
