AKC is NOT screening Breeders. They also do not accept any accountability for allowing them to be listed on their website and giving them the stamp of approval by naming them "breeder of merit" This breeder LIED to me about the health of **** and DAM when I reached out for a health history on behalf of my dog. She said "I wont bother the *** owners" with this, "they are both doing fine" Only to find out they are actually dead and have a line history of cancer. She lied, was rude and put my dog at risk. This is nothing better than a puppy mill breeder and AKC keeps sending scripted answers, delays and stating they claim no responsibility for the breeders they have listed on their website. WOW! That is nothing better than a fraudulent organization masquerading as one with credibility, morals and standards. Clearly based on the pattern of this type of complaint it demonstrates this organization needs to be investigated as well. BUYER BEWARE! Trust me, AKC's next move will be another scripted unhelpful response just like the ones listed in the other complaints shown. For the last 3 weeks, they have sent scripted emails saying the same thing in that they will get to it but they NEVER do and this is serious. It involves an unethical breeder they had listed as Breeder of Merit and has put my dog from that breeder at RISK as it relates to health information I need regarding the **** AND DAM. They also should be taking action against this puppy mill breeder who has been irresponsible and unethical.Business Response

We are addressing the complaint regarding the health records for a sire and dam of a 5 year old dog that was purchased in 2019. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[I am not asking for a guarantee, I am asking for honest answers as to the health history of the dam and sire so I know how to best watch for health related issues with my dog. Breeder said "they are fine" They are not. I know for sure the **** died of cancer per the breeder of that dog. As for the Dam I still dont know. Why wont the breeder of the DAM tell me? Why wouldnt a credible breeder provide this information and instead lie? Why cant the AKC obtain this information and instead deny responsibility? They are the ones that branded her "Breeder of Merit" I have no problem making the reputation of this breeder and AKC public on social media and other outlets to get attention brought to this matter. This is a reasonable request for a health history of an adult DAM, She is CO OWNER of that dog, she knows or could easily find out. She is just avoiding the answer and clearly hiding something like she did with the ****

We understand that you would like the health records for your dog's parents. Please know the American Kennel Club cannot force a breeder to provide health records. As a registry body, the AKC requires breeders to maintain ownership and breeding records for their dogs. Please know AKC membership is comprised of dog clubs located through out the US. There are no individual members of the American Kennel Club.
We sincerely wish the best for you and your dog.

On or about 3/1/24, I registered my pre breed Dachshund for an AKC PAL (pure breed alternative listing) number to compete in their dog sports program. I sent all the required documentation to AKC with a payment of $35 on my credit card. Within 2 weeks, I received a *************** Listing...not a PAL listing number. On 3/27 I contacted the AKC and eventually was transferred to a female named ********** (who refused to provide her full legal last name). She advised that my dog did not look like a dachshund to her, and that three other people in her chain of command, agreed with her decision, thus listing my dog as a mutt and not able to compete in sports as a dachshund. I advised "****" that I personally know the breeders and that both b**** and dog are dachshunds with dad being a typical miniature and mother being much larger at 18 lbs closer to a standard dachshund. My dog of all the litter, had longer legs, and was awkward looking compared to her litter mates which is one of the reasons she appealed to me as the reject. I own several other "reject" dachshund to include a deaf aggressive dachshund. It was never my intention to breed any of my dogs nor do I plan to. My dog, like her **************** excelled in sports as a puppy and thus how I came to compete in AKC sports. Although my dachshund does not have the short stubby legs and is slightly taller with a small body and large head, she is all dachshund. AKC advised they will not take other pictures of my dachshund, DNA sample, or allow me to appeal to anyone by submitting photos of the mother/father and littermates. **** advised she was a "subject matter expert" but could not site any official certifications, degrees, schools, classes or official credentials that most "subject matter experts" tend to have like in my career field...if your not certified, you have no authority to say anything. Based on the fact that she would not provide her full name, I doubt her stated title and credentials at all. Suspect fraud!Business Response

Yes I purchased an Akita Puppy advertised on ************************************************************************************** on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from *************************** ************ and ************ *************************** for $900.00+20.00Transfer. I wanted to pick the ****** but she insisted that she bring it to my home. In purchasing the pup, it included the Seller providing me the AKC Registration Certificate Transfer Papers, which on the site where the pup was advertised, states, "AKC Marketplace is the only website that exclusively lists puppies from AKC-Registered litters, so you can choose a breeder with confidence." I believed this, and trusted that the Breeder was ligit. They came to my home, took the money, gave my son a brown envelope and said all the papers were in it. However, shortly after they left, we looked inside the envelope and realized that the transfer papers were not inside. We immediately contacted the Seller, and she came back with an illusive lie that the father was not AKC, so she could not register them. Then the story changed, and she said a friend of the husband abandoned the pup's father, and did not give her the papers. She also did not give me an agreed Bill of Sale, as she stated was going to take place when I purchased the puppy. I contacted the AKC and they states,"the parents are both registered, and so is the puppy alongside the other litter in his group. I contacted her back and as her to mail me the papers and sign her portion on the back so that I can register the puppy I paid for in my name, but she will not cooperate. My Resolution:Please help me to get the papers for my sweet little puppy, and complete the sale ***************************, and ****** failed to comply with their own terms. I also, had to write out my own contract, stating that I paid cash for the pup, and the delivery of the pup, sold to me by ******, with the date, and *************************** signed it upon giving me the pup, and receiving her full payment for the dog.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:The Business sent me an email on the evening of the same day I receive your notice to accept the AKC response to reach out to the liter owner. The email below lets me know that the AKC was not willing to take the extra steps, according to their own Website to get the needed papers for the puppy. Whatever false statement the owner gave them, was not shared with me, but I provided ample proof that the purchase was not completed and was done under fraudulent actions since the owner provided me a blank brown envelope that she stated included the AKC papers for the dog. It appears the AKC is shielding owners who claim to have register puppies, but are falsely taking the full money for puppies, and the owners does not provide papers to the buyer.

*****,
I do not know what the owner told you but the owner did not provide the papers for the puppy at the time of the sale nor did the owner provide me a bill of sale. I purchased this puppy from your web site and was following your advertisement that the puppies on your site are AKC Registered, and followed all the steps to safely purchase an AKC Puppy. The owner fraudulently sold me a puppy, gave me a blank envelope that she stated had all the papers in it to register the dog. I have not had contact with the owner and she simply took my money and left me with a puppy without the papers, and that is not with the owner and me, your company allowed her to use your website to format her fraudulent actions. I am asking you to please provide me with what I am ***********, and this is the papers for this puppy I purchased through your website, AKC. How are you not assisting me in this matter, based on my correspondence? I made an honest mistake in going through your site to purchase an AKC Puppy. I am asking for you to make a wrong, right. The owner has not completed the sale or satisfied her agreement according to your website, "We are passionate about everything related to dogs, and we celebrate the joy they bring to our lives every single day. Being a dog lover is not a pastime; its a way of life and we make every moment count." Well, I too am passionate about dogs, and I would appreciate your helping me to get my puppy papers. I have purchased AKC puppies before, and not one owner of litters has done what this breeder did in not providing a bill of sale and the papers to register the dog. Let me thank you in advance for your speedy positive resolution to this issue, as I am not satisfied with the resolution provided to me in this email.

Dear *****,
We empathize with your disappointment. The owner of the litter has informed us that your puppy originates from a litter that doesn't meet the criteria for registration. According to the documentation you've provided, the AKC cannot register the litter due to incomplete breeding information. For registration eligibility, a litter must be born from an AKC registered sire and dam of the same breed. The breeder has offered a full refund if you choose to return the puppy. We appreciate your understanding.
As you may be aware, the AKC does not license or endorse breeders and has no control over their business practices. This is a matter that must be resolved between you and the breeder outside of the AKC.
We wish you the best.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:the breeder has lied. The grill will not get the puppy back, because we paid full price for the puppy. The puppy was $1,000, and we paid $900, Plus $20 for her to transport the puppy to us. The contract she signed clearly states that she must give the AKC registered papers, along with the puppy. This puppy was found on the AKC marketplace, therefore the disclaimers clearly states that all puppies on this site are AKC registerable. It is unacceptable for AKC to claim that they have nothing to do with this, when the person that you allowed to be on this site, sold a puppy to me, without it being AKC registerable. This is the second time that you have brought this to my attention, since I have filed a complaint. I was told that the litter was registered with the AKC, and that all I needed was the signature of the breeder on the back of the registration paper. It is not my responsibility to contact this seller again, who is a complete and utter liar, when you are responsible for making sure that the people on your website are AKC registerable when they are breeders. This person was not. I am giving AKC enough time to get this straighten out, before legal action is taken. The greater lied, and AKC provided correspondence staying at the litter was AKC registered, and that's a birthday was different for the puppy. Please straighten this out for us, because AKC marketplace is not doing a good job. Please continue filing this complaint. Regards,

AKC Marketplace online site promotes an unlawful and irresponsible dog breeder:On 8/26/26, ****** ******* with Creamy Retrievers LLC illegally sold me a 7 week old puppy without having him signed off by licensed Vet, as required by ********** law for puppies under 8 weeks old. She withheld this fact until I took the puppy home and asked her numerous times for her Vets contact info. After noticing issues with the puppys vision, I consulted my Vet, who confirmed my suspicions and directed me to an Ophthalmologist, who diagnosed the puppy as BLIND at birth. Industry professionals advised that a reputable breeder would have easily identified an issue with the puppy. When I contacted the breeder and inquired about a resolution plan, she immediately directed me the contract agreement. She insisted on no wrong doing and stated her no return policy. Fearing she would do harm to the puppy, I offered to keep him if she helped pay for expenses relating to his diagnosis. After discussions, we were unable to agree on a resolution. As a first time puppy buyer, I didnt see the red flag warnings:* When I met the breeder to see the puppy and submit a $500 holding deposit, she didnt have a hard copy of the deposit contract for me to sign. I was asked to view and sign the tiny print on her phone. When questioning her about potential health issues, she insisted there would be nothing wrong with the puppy and she that would take him to the Vet prior to releasing him. She reassured me there has never been a health issue with any of her puppies.* When I met her to pick up the puppy, she didnt have the final documents (Bill of Sale, Medical Records and Health Guarantee) for me to review and sign, and said she would send them to me. I agreed to pay the remaining balance of $2,200 in exchange for the puppy. Without seeing the medical records, I was unaware the puppy had not been seen by a Vet. Had I known, I would not have taken the puppy that day, despite the long drive.Business Response

We are sorry to hear about the health of your puppy. In situations such as yours, it is vital to seek veterinary care as you have done and to inform the breeder so they can use this knowledge in future breeding decisions.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) supports reasonable laws and regulations intended to protect the pet-buying public in obtaining a sound dog of the breed represented. Breeders and/or sellers should be responsible for providing certain refunds, replacements, or reimbursements should the dog sold become ill or die from a condition contracted prior to the purchase.
The AKC strongly opposes the breeding of dogs by those who do so without regard for the dogs welfare. We support scrupulous enforcement of the federal Animal Welfare Act, and the state and local regulations governing the humane care of animals. We further believe that USDA and other enforcement agencies should be given appropriate resources to ensure that regulations are met.
Also, please know that the AKC does not certify, endorse, or approve of breeders that use AKC registration services. Further, when a breeder is inspected, the results of that inspection reflect the condition on the day, and whether the breeder is in compliance with AKC's rules, policies and procedures, including AKC's Care and Conditions of Dogs policy. As the only non-governmental organization in the country with a kennel inspection program, AKC's program reflects our commitment to responsible dog ownership and best care practices, but also clearly sets forth care and conditions guidelines that reflect the AKCs philosophy and mission to promote and protect all dogs.

***************************** indicated that she returned the dog Qenza * ********* *********** to the former owner but alleged she didnt consent to the online transfer of the AKC registration papers back to the former owner. The American Kennel Club received a contract signed by both parties which stated, The original puppy and papers shall be returned at the buyers expense to Weberhaus if you no longer wish to retain it. It additionally indicated,By signing this agreement, I understand that this document shall become a legal and binding contract under the state of ****** and all applicable state statues. Any and all disputes will need to be handled in the state of ******.
Based on the agreement signed by all parties, the American Kennel Club found that this matter is essentially a contractual dispute which will need to be resolved by the parties involved or through civil channels.Customer Answer

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:The breeder contract and ****** law mentioned is solely between the breeder and I. It is completely out of the jurisdiction of the AKC and in no way gives the AKC authority to transfer a certificate of registration without a signature. (See the back of the registration) I would also note the American Kennel Club is not even mentioned once in the contract. It is the responsibility of the AKC to follow their own procedures in transferring a certificate of registration. They are the keeper of the registry, not interpreting contracts and state law in order to decide if a certificate of registration may be transferred. The owners signature is all that is required. It is within the jurisdiction of the American Kennel Club to keep the registry accurate as their mission states it is "dedicated to upholding the integrity of its Registry" The back of the registration states, "The Owner(s) printed on the front of this certificate must complete then individually sign this section. The name(s) of the New Owner(s) should be printed below as they are to be recored on AKC records." and "...all applicable AKC bylaws, rules, regulations and proceeders must first be followed as set forth the AKC charter and bylaws, rules, regulations, published polices and guidelines." I was never asked or given the opportunity to sign the back of the registration and didn't know it was necessary until I received an email from the AKC stating the transfer had already taken place. It was the responsibility and jurisdiction of AKC to contact the owner upon receipt of the blank transfer. I am simply asking them to follow their own procedures. There is no signature and they tell me there is no signature on the back of the certificate. We need to be able to trust the AKC to guard the certificate of registrations well like car titles. The AKC transferred my dog without my signature. Will the AKC hold up to their own mission statement?
