Rate My Professors claims that it "has a team of moderators who read every rating submitted. It claims, we have defined site guidelines to help reinforce our mission .... our guidelines and will remove any comment that doesnt comply." This is disingenuous and inaccurate. Today, on the very day that I had an academic job interview (the Zoom interview that takes place in the first round of an academic job search) a post went up on the site in which a disgruntled student accused me of racism. The claim was unsubstantiated and blatantly false. The post went further than that and said that I am a "disgrace to the human race." This is abusive. The post violates the sites stated rules and guidelines. Clearly there was no moderator checking it before it went live on the site. And because this libelous and abusive post went live on the very day that I had a job interview, it poses a very real risk of injuring my reputation and my job prospects. I am a female professor teaching in a very masculine environment. Three-fourths of my students are men. I receive a larger than usual amount of abuse on ratemyproffessor.com. The site is actually amplifying the ways in which unconscious biases create significant hurdles for women and minority professors across various dimensions of their academic careers. This web site should do as it promises and vet each and every post before they go live in order to help protect female and minority faculty members from the very real bias that we face.

A fictitious rating that was removed was put back. The rating was removed last year. However, it was placed back with the notice this rating has been ********************. This was a rating on September 22, 2022. The rating has nothing to do about ************************. The volunteer autocorrection.cancel do not even design the courses or the assignments.

On October 19, 2023, someone posted an inaccurate review on Rate My Professors. The review does not follow (violates) the company's guidelines. This is the second time in a year I had to report Rate My Professors for allowing inaccurate reviews.

Dear BBB staff, I feel violated and robbed from my own privacy. Theres a website called ratemyprofessor.com, which has my name posted to the public to comment on my method of pedagogy! No one has the right to invade my privacy in real life or virtually. I dont have any social media accounts and I have a Top Secret/SCI security clearance from ***************** Government. Im a very private guy and always have been for many reason in my past that relates to my classified missions. The website has almost fifty complaints on BBB & an F rating. However, the website still exist! The website claims that its the colleges fault that my name is listed on line, which is not true. Rate my professor is a third party and its not part of any college or university as they claim to be. Even if theyre, that still doesnt give the website to use my name without my permission. I cant believe that Ive exchanged over three E-mails with their customer service to resolve this issue & the representative had the audacity to tell me that I need permission from their counsel/legal office to remove my own name from their website. In addition, the representative claims that only students who take my class will be able to leave comments under my profile using this website, which is not true. I tested the website and I was able to leave a comment on one of my colleagues profile and I gave him a good review. Which means that anyone who might want to hurt me could leave a negative comment that might impact and tarnish my reputation as an educator. This should be illegal, I did not consent to this. Please help me keep my name off the website ratemyprofessor.comRespectfully, ***

I asked ratemyprofessor.com to remove my name from their website. I am no longer affiliated with the university that is listed under my name. Several of the comments are of a defamatory and slanderous nature. As of today my name is still on the site. I want it removed.

A disgruntled student has posted an egregiously fake review of a course I didnt even teach the semester they filed a complaint (and hadnt taught for years). The fact that this has brought my high score down is unfair. The lack of quality control on this site and its very real repercussions are problematic. Ive contacted the site several times and have received no response. I have no problem with constructive criticism, but this is purposeful vengeance for I-dont-know-what. Students need to take responsibility for their own actions instead of trying to viciously slander dedicated professors. It is the sites duty to ensure theyre not able to bully professors - and damage their reputation and course enrollments - in this way.
