I was solicited by Nielsen to complete a survey where myself and the members of my household listen to the radio for a week and document what we listened to. At the end of the week we would mail the results in and Nielsen would pay us 10 dollars each (3 members in my family, so 30 dollars total) for our time. I received a letter in the mail from Nielsen with 2 or 3 one dollar bills in it. There was instructions for completing a online survey and said I would receive a online gift card to local businesses for 10 dollars by email and I would receive it within 48 hours of completing the survey. I completed the survey and never received anything and its been around 3 weeks. Ive contacted Nielsen and they want me to provide the letter I got in the mail but I no longer have it because I didnt think it was important and nowhere said to keep for my records.Business Response

I was enlisted by Nielsen to provide input about various surveys. I completed one such survey, mailed it back, and received $1 cash by mail. I was later asked to complete a one-week log listing all my radio listening activity. A second log was provided in case my wife wanted to participate, which she did. Both completed log books were pre-addressed with pre-paid postage. We mailed them the next day after the log period ended. We had been promised $5 each for participating. That was months ago. We never received any payment, nor any other correspondence from Nielsen.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.I just spoke to a lady at Nielsen at the number given, who said a manager had approved a $10 replacement check to be issued the first week of **** and that I should allow 3 weeks for it to arrive. She did not know anything about the "check cashed 1/2/2023" mentioned in this BBB response, but did confirm I did NOT become a member until Sept 2023. So the ******* BBB response is bogus, but accepted, in light of what I've stated here.

I received a call from my mother saying that a Nielsen representative called and asked to sign the household up for monitoring. After my father initially agreed, they sent someone to the house, who said that they needed to install equipment, but that before that they needed access to the family computer so that they could get some information off it (possibly an IP address). This made my mother uncomfortable, so she convinced my father not to go through with the process. The woman who initially set up the appointment was very upset about the reversal, saying that canceling was going to cost her her job. These seem like high-pressure tactics, unbecoming of a reputable corporation.Business Response

On 11/6/23, I received a letter in the mail from Nielsen. The letter said that I would be receiving an email invitation to participate in a survey and I would receive a $5 gift card for taking the survey. I received an email to take the survey, on 11/22/23, and the email reiterated that I would receive a $5 gift card for taking the survey. I completed the survey on 11/27/23, but to this date, I still have not received my gift card.I emailed Nielsen on 12/7/23. The Nielsen employee who replied to my email said I would need to provide to them: when I took the survey, my full name, mailing address, and phone number. This is inappropriate and a breach of promise. Nielsen promised me a gift card for completing the survey, and I did complete the survey, and I do not owe them any more information. Nielsen ought to know that I already completed my survey and they should send the gift card that they owe me, to the email address that I have been using to correspond with them, without any further delay.Business Response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:I have additional questions for the business. After I filed my BBB complaint, on 12/15/23, I received an email which appears to be for a gift card. The email appears to be sent from the email address: ***********************************************, and the subject line says: Thank you for your participation in a recent survey! The email has a link in it to a website which appears to be redeem.theawardcard.com.
My question for the business is: Is this email legitimate? Was the email definitely sent to me by Nielsen? Is the link in the email to a legitimate website that will provide me the gift card that I should have received for completing the Nielsen survey? I want to know for sure if the email and the link to the website are safe, and legitimate, because I do not want to fall prey to any phishing scams.
I am confused by the business' response. If the email mentioned above is legitimate, why did the business' response, from 12/18/23, say that a representative would be getting in touch with me? Since the business said that a representative would be getting in touch with me, after I received the email mentioned above, that makes me question the legitimacy of the email that I received.
Sincerely,

I got an email invite to do a survey. I did the long survey and was supposed to get a $5 ecard when I submitted my answers. That was a week ago. I commented on their ******* and my reply was hidden by them! I emailed multiple times. First I was told there was no record of me. I sent them the email. Suddenly my e-card was processing but that's all I could find out. I kept getting the same form letter reply saying they keep their promises. Looking at all these complaints and the 1 star rating, I can see that's a lie. Christmas time and I could use that $5, not all this hassle. I was told to call. Why?? I said I can't as I'm disabled. He said to get a friend or someone to do it. That's not my job! I did what I was supposed to do, now give me my payment! He said it would be sent to the email I used to do the survey. And yes I checked in my spam folder. I never got it.Business Response

Hello,
We apologize for the inconvenience. You should have received your ecard by now.
Because you did not receive the Nielsen $5 ecard, instead, Nielsen will send you a $5 cash thank you gift. There should be no delay in you receiving your cash thank you gift.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:I still haven't gotten it or heard from anyone after they emailed that day (Dec 14) to say they were sending it out with no delay. I did write today and they sent me the same form response I've gotten for a month and now they say they have no control over the mail so they don't know a date I'll get it, but it's being processed. Every email they tell me it's being processed. Very sketchy. I did the long survey and they got it, but won't pay me.

I was excited to be selected as a Nielsen home. I had to have about 3 phone calls. First time I needed to think about it because they want you to wear a device that has a microphone, seemed very suspicious to have a wearable device that was listening in on my life. But I looked up other reviews and it seemed, legit. Finally, they were sending us the equipment. It was a lot more equipment than I had expected. I didn't know where to put it, so I set it aside. They called daily to check in while I was at work and unable to do anything about it, so I let it go to voicemail. Finally, they call at a good time when I can answer. I said I have 5 minutes to set things up but they said the registration process would take 30 minutes and they'll call me back. But it was right around the holidays, so I was traveling to see family for thanksgiving so I knew it was going to be at least a week or more before I could even try the equipment. This past Saturday, I'm free. I read all the pamphlets, I plug everything in. I download the app. Takes about an hour. I try to register it on the app, my information didn't match their system. So I try to call. They're closed for the day. I call the next day, my home had been removed from the ratings. No reason given. I was removed less than 30 days after I received my equipment! I don't know if it's because I took too long to respond? So frustrating! All this back and forth and calls and I probably made $25 overall? On the call when they said I had been removed, they ask for the equipment to be returned, but that is the first time they DON'T pay you for participating... HA! Jokes on me... I thought I could make a decent monthly income to pay for my TV watching habits while also helping to improve the ratings for cord cutting millennials. I'm a fool for trusting a major corporation to be decent and understanding..Business Response
