  It was an easy process with Better, my bank was more of an issue. All in all though the people at Better mortgage talked you through every step and were sympathetic when things became difficult with the stress of trying to get statements from a bank that were slow balling everything. Once you get through all that the payout is quick and easy. I recommend Better mortgage to anyone wanting to refinance or buy a new home.

  They sold me on doing a hard credit pull and sent me a pre-approval letter, then told me that they could not offer me a loan because of a ghost collections item that does not show up on any of my 3 credit reports. I have no idea where they get their information from, but it isn't accurate. They claimed that the collections creditor was ***************** who I am currently in great standing with, and when I asked for the date of the collections item they said **** (20 years ago).

  If I could leave zero stars I would. How people have had a good experience with this company is beyond me. Throughout this entire process we were lead to believe that we had everything we needed to go through the with mortgage, paperwork, money, etc. A week an half before closing we were told that we did not have sufficient funds for closing. Thankfully we have wonderful family who were able to gift us money to close. We then asked our loan officers if we were good, did we need any more money or paperwork. We were told we were fine. At this point we lost both of our original loan officers and were handed a "lovely" gentleman by the name of *******. Who to this day will not answer phone calls or emails. ONE DAY before closing, we were told that we were now $14,000 short for closing despite being told we were good a week an half prior and the days leading up to it. To this day (as I am writing this, two weeks since this happened), ******* has not answered our phone calls about this matter. Because of this and the fact that the company never locked us in at the interest rate like they said they did, we CHANGED lenders! NOW the company will not release our appraisal of the house because ******* does not want to respond to any form of communication. Hopefully we will have our appraisal released by today or we will have to spend an additional $1,500 to have a new one done so we can FINALLY close on this house. If we loose this house because of Better then they will be hearing from us in the future and not as friendly customers. No one at Better seems to genuinely care or want to help. A company that wants to charge over $28,000 just in closing costs are in my opinion is a money hungry scam. DO NOT USE BETTER MORTAGE IF YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOOD FOR YOU!

  We refinanced with Better.com last year. The experience itself was quick and seemed to go smoothly. What we did not realize was that Better did not include the Windstorm policy that was clearly in our Escrow wth our previous mortgager. We have refinanced a couple of times before and this has never been an issue. Better chose not to request the information from us and when the mortgage was sold to Chase it no longer had a Windstorm policy, which in Louisiana is necessary because of hurricanes. They completed the process only with our homeowners insurance, which they now say is "all the lender requires". I feel we are pretty savvy but we fully expected that when requesting documents they would include what was already in our escrow. We only realized this 1 year later when our insurance company canceled our policy because Chase did not have a record of it and did not pay. We have now had to obtain another quote, which was more expensive, and were without coverage for ****** The insurance company and my family were under the impression this had been transferred over during the refinance. When I brought this to Better they just said they didn't have any reason to request it since they do not require that insurance. I am concerned that this could be a problem when they provide this service to people in areas that require separte more complete insurance since they are not informing them that they will not transfer what is already in the mortgage and escrow that a person is refinancing, which leaves people vulnerable to inadequate insurance policies. They have not acknowledged that this was an oversight on their part despite having a statement showing that the insurance was something we had previously and we did not state at any time that we wanted to drop or change what we currently had in our escrow. Again I am bringing this to BBB because we are concerend this could affect other families in Lousiana that have refinanced with Better.

  I had a pleasant experience closing my first home with Better. Though many of my friends suggested I should not go with outside lenders, I chose Better and it worked for me. The team that worked on my loan was very attentive and provided timely support. I was able to get the new home keys within a few hours of closing. I will go with Better if I plan to buy my next house.
