I am filing a complaint against Skillshare due to their deceptive subscription and billing practices. I signed up for a free trial, expecting to evaluate the platform before making a commitment. However, without any prior notification or reminder, Skillshare charged me $167.88 for an annual subscription. I was shocked to discover this charge, as I had never even logged into my account after signing up.When I disputed the charge, Skillshare denied my request for a refund, stating that I had agreed to their terms and conditions. However, I was never presented with a formal agreement to signonly a checkbox that was required to proceed. Despite my concerns, Skillshare failed to provide any login records showing that I had accessed or used their platform, which further supports that I had no intent to continue beyond the trial.Their lack of transparency and refusal to issue a refund for a service I never used demonstrates an unfair business practice. Since Skillshare has refused to resolve this matter, I have escalated my complaint to my bank for further review. I believe this situation warrants serious attention, as it highlights a misleading billing model that can trap customers into unintended charges.Resolution Requested: I am requesting a full refund of $167.88, as I never used Skillshares services beyond signing up for the free trial. I also urge Skillshare to implement clearer subscription renewal notifications to prevent other consumers from experiencing similar issues.Customer Answer

My 30-day free trial expired, and they charged me a full year's subscription of $167.88. I could not cancel my subscription online, nor was I made aware of their refund conditions, which say I can only have a refund if I used a 7-day trial. I was never even offered a 7-day trial. When I informed their customer service, they repeatedly told me I was ineligible for a full refund.Initial Complaint

I got charged on 2/20/25 on the website of Skillshare. Apparently, I signed up for a one-month free trial through a code Skillshare provided. But since I never used skillshare at all during that month and I forgot I even signed for it. I would like the ****** dollars back as soon as possible, which is resonable as its only been less than 24 hours since they charge me. But unfortunately, according to customer service, they cannot give refunds for free trials longer than 2 weeks which is ridiculous as it doesn't even warn people before they charge them. My account went to the negatives so I not even sure how it went through with the payments. I hope you can help me because I'm really struggling in money and I already told skillshare I cannot afford this membership.Customer Answer

Date of Transaction: 02/18/2025 Amount Charged: $167.88 I signed up for a free trial with Skillshare, fully intending to cancel before the trial ended. On my billing day, I attempted to cancel, but the system did not allow me to cancel without being charged. The moment I received the transaction email and subscription confirmation, I immediately contacted Skillshare requesting a refund, as I had no intention of continuing the subscription.Additionally, the trial-end reminder email went to my spam folder, which prevented me from receiving proper notification. I have since found that many other customers have experienced the same issue, indicating a pattern of misleading billing practices.Nature of Dispute: Skillshare charged me despite my immediate request for cancellation and refund. Their system made it difficult to cancel on the billing day, forcing a charge before allowing cancellation. This feels like an intentional design to trap users into unwanted subscriptions.Attempts by Business to Resolve the Issue: Despite multiple attempts to contact Skillshares support team, I have received only automated responses and no resolution. This delay in response seems intentional to push past the refund window.Given that I acted immediately upon noticing the charge and never used the service after the trial, I believe I am entitled to a full ********* Skillshare account is under the name ****** ******, but my legal name is ****** ****** ****** ******** which I am using for this complaint. If Skillshare refuses to process my refund, I will be left with no choice but to dispute the charge through my bank. I request that Skillshare process my refund immediately.Desired Resolution:Full refund of the unauthorized charge.Initial Complaint

I am filing a formal complaint against Skillshare regarding a misleading renewal policy and an unauthorized charge of $141.00 . I was automatically charged for an online yearly service with skillshare On Feb 17th, of which I was not planning on renewing for another year. I noticed it the day my card was charged On Feb 17th and contacted them THE SAME DAY to cancel and to request a refund. There is no phone number to be able to contact them and speak to a person which is quite frustrating. I have attached their responding email.I have responded twice to this email but have received no response.I have cancelled the account so that it will not be renewed another year. That doesnt sound very honest. It is completely reasonable to be able to cancel and be offered a full refund on the day the renewal begins if a customer does not want to renew. There are so many emails that are sent by Skillshare, I think that a one time email reminder in amongst the dozens spammed monthly, could be easily overlooked. Great for Skillshare. Not so great for the customer. *********************** practices of automatic renewal no exceptions seems to be more profitable than providing educational content that people are willing to pay for.I am looking to get a full refund.Customer Answer

They stated that I had a fourteen day trial. On day 14 I went to cancel my subscription and seen that they had already placed the charge hold on my account before the free trial was ended! I reach out to **************** who near immediately told me that they denied my refund request even though they charged me early! This is fraudulent. I have seen the similar reviews on your site and I'm wanting to seek a refund.Customer Answer

I watched a couple of free videos from Skillshare on ******* and in one of the videos, the person making the video offered viewers 2-months free trial of Skillshare AT NO COST. I signed up for the two month trial which additionally required me to provide a credit card number. I cancelled the trial after about a month as I never received any of the materials, downloads, etc. associated with the classes I looked at so was not actually able to accomplish anything. At the end of the 2-month period, I was charged a year's subscription ($167.88) I disputed it with the company and was told that I was charged because I did not cancel my free trial within 7 days. The cancellation policy was never referenced in anything that was provided to me until I questioned the charge, Skillshare did not respond when I pointed out that I had cancelled because I had not received the materials I was entitled to. I did further research and it became clear to me that in fact, I had been hijacked into signing up for a "Buy 12-months-and-get-2-months-free" program. It was never advertised as that and if it had been I would not have signed up for such a program. I just wanted an opportunity to look at their offerings and try [some of] them before making a decision. I believe they are engaged in misleading advertising in which they **** people into believing ta=hey are enjoying a free trial when in fact they have enrolled you for a 12-month stint.Initial Complaint

Dear *********** am writing to formally file a complaint against Skillshare regarding unpaid earnings from my courses.I have published two courses on Skillshare, and they have generated revenue every month from February 2022 to the present, totaling $436.43. Unlike Udemy, where I receive payments directly to my bank account, I was unaware that I had earnings on Skillshare since no payments were made to me.Upon discovering my earnings, I contacted Skillshare to request my payout. Their response was that my account was not properly registered with ******** their payment partner, and that they had sent a prior email about this. However, they stated that as per their policy, they could not release my earnings due to this incomplete registration.I completed the registration properly and I requested multiple times for Skillshare to reconsider, but they refused to help. After escalating the issue on social media, they agreed to make an exception and pay only for the last three months ($62.22), which is significantly lower than my total earnings. Since then, they have stopped responding to my requests for the remaining balance.I strongly believe I am entitled to receive my full earnings of $436.43 as this is my rightful compensation for the content I created and published on their platform. I request your intervention in resolving this matter and ensuring Skillshare pays me the amount I am owed. I have the proof of the mail conversations and my revenue details.I appreciate your time and assistance in this issue. Please let me know if you need any further details. Sincerely,****** ******Initial Complaint

I signed up for a 30 day trial of the service. About a week before the free trial expired, I canceled my subscription. Then a week later, I wake up to find out I got charged $167.88 which put my account in the negative. I tried to reach out to Skillshare customer support and they told me that I was not eligible for a refund. I made a dispute with ******, which was the payment method I used at the time. Customer support had also mentioned that they would not be able to make any changes to the charge because of the dispute. Despite canceling the membership, or so I thought, I was still charged the amount a 1 year subscription to their service. I have read multiple reports of them doing this to others only after it happened to me. Why is it the customers fault for their buggy website? Did my cancel request not go through? I know I went to their website to cancel but I still got charged. This is horrible and unethical practices. By far the worst service compared to other sites.Initial Complaint

On January 6th I started a trial with the business. On Feb 7th I was charged for annual membership and was not properly notified that the trial was ending and have not tried their services since starting that trial. Their emaio notifications went straight to my spam folder, thus any attempt to inform me is useless because their emails are recognized as spam by my mailbox. I want to get a full refund because I have not used their services.
