On August 14th I went into the ****** location on 17th St for a filling. They decided to do a filling on my front tooth which was not the original plan, as that tooth wasn't bothering me in any way. The next day the filling fell out and the corner of my tooth came off. I believe this was from excessive drilling. I called right away to make an emergency appointment but had to wait 6 days. I can only drink through a straw and can't bite without pain because now the nerve is exposed. I went in for my appointment today. They took an x ray and said they will refer me to a specialist. Who knows how long that will take. Now the Dr. **** I need a root canal and a crown on that tooth. I will have to pay $1300 for the crown out of pocket. This should be covered by Advantage dental because they are the cause of the problem. If you make a mistake you should be responsible for fixing it.Business response

I am rejecting this response because: no one has reached out to me still. I tried to schedule an appointment with the specialist I was referred to only to find out they are in ******** which no one informed me of prior. I won't be able to get there because I live in ***********. I tried to make an appointment at the original clinic and am now in limbo again. They are telling me I have to get a root canal which will require me to get a crown. I can't afford a crown and don't feel I should be responsible for the cost since all this trouble was from a botched procedure.
Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because: Apparently they investigated themselves and found no wrongdoing on their part. Therefore, they expect me to be financially responsible for the crown that I now need at a cost of $1300.00. I am not satisfied and will be ending my relationship with advantage dental after being their patient for 14 years.
Sincerely,

NOTE: Patient has autism, ADHD, anxiety Problem started August 12th, when I called and explained the problem and the pain that it was causing (broken tooth), at first they told me that they did not have any availability to schedule an appointment had to go through a third party to actually get scheduled. Took x-ray, requested nitrous was scheduled out until 2025 but was told to call in October to move up the schedule once the dentist was certified, was prescribed antibiotics. Was scheduled for a filling, patient walked out as anxiety kicked in. Pain is now at a 10. Called today August 20th, Told them the patient is willing to get tooth pulled without nitrous if prescribed anxiety meds and have no available spots after 330. I explained the pain was basically told me "oh well, you'll have to wait until *************** call everyday until a spot is open since the dentist is out until the 29th" They don't care about anyone's pain and are very rude.Business response

Multiple times now this dental office has refused to treat me. *** had appointments set and confirmed, but when I arrive to check in they tell me that Im not on their schedule for that time, they have a much later time scheduled. Ive shown them my confirmation messages and they just tell me they cant see me until a later time because they dont have a provider available for me. So, because Im on state insurance and they messed up their scheduling, I dont get the appointment Ive already waited months for. *** explained to them that its not okay. *** had to pay for childcare, and transportation for what turned out to be nothing. Totally unacceptable, if theyre going to reschedule appointments they need to be reaching out to their patients first instead of deciding on their own when theyre gonna push the *** patients off till.Business response

I have been a patient of Advantage Dental at ******************* since September 2023. I originally went in as an emergency because I had two teeth with exposed roots since 2020. During my appointment the dentist said I had two additional teeth on the bottom that were loose and had no bone mass. Now I only have 4 teeth on the bottom with a gap in the middle. My next appointment was scheduled for January 2 and another scheduled January 16th. Both those appointments were canceled by Advantage Dental promising to get me in as soon as possible. Finally was scheduled for April 25th . I had filling that needed to be done. On May 8th I had additional filling done and impressions taken. I was never told the process of 3 to 3 1/2 week for impressions to come back from lab they use. And that 3 impressions would be done and sent in. The only thing relayed by dentist that he suggested I consider an upgraded partial plate because most patients complained about the insurance covered partial plate. Was told around a thousand. I asked about the process when I went in May 8th thinking in a few weeks Ill be done and feel better about myself. Also was told the cost for better plate now *****. I have waited 10 weeks now. *** left several message the past five weeks and no response back. I just want my teeth finished. I feel waiting close to a year pretty sad and unacceptable. I was advised that a patient has been waiting for close to two years. I guess I was supposed to feel blessed. I rather felt empathy for the patient.. It definitely has affected my mental state. Im anxious and depressed.Business response

Just wanted to provide update. Advantage dental reached out this past Monday (7/22) setting up appt for Wednesday (7/24). I go in yesterday and receptionist has nothing on schedule for me. I waited around since the office manager was in a meeting. Apparently the office manager had called my husband to set up my appt. but neglected to let receptionist know. About five minutes after leaving I received a call to come in a few hours. I arrive at new scheduled time. I finally am told after leaving numerous messages over the past 11 weeks that the impressions taken on May 8th were lost and I now am starting all over. The practice is down to one dentist, there is a stack of impressions there that patients are waiting for with no one to deal with, I guess they at least have theirs. They have a new patients accepted sign with appts being scheduled now for February. There were no apologies made, I asked receptionist who returns calls on messages left, she indicated her. Im like why didnt you just let me know that my impressions were lost and have me come in sooner, no reply. It would be nice if they pushed things along since their office had me in limbo these past several weeks. I have an appointment set for the middle of August for another impression and then down the road another appointment for impressions. I have had anything but a great experience and I would never in good faith recommend. While I was sitting there a lady came in asking about switching to them. Insured with ohp. Exposed roots and numerous infections. The lady was told the earliest she could get in as an emergency was February. I went through the exact thing with my mouth for two years during Covid. How is this acceptable? An emergency 6 months out?? Thank you for your assistance, who knows how long Id still be waiting for some sort of reply. ****************-******

We contacted the ************** about your concerns. We are sorry you had trouble reaching the dental office by phone. We reviewed chart notes, x-rays, and other records for your visits. Records show you were seen on September 25, 2023. This was for a complete exam and treatment plan. Fillings, extractions, and periodontal treatment were recommended. This was to prepare your mouth for dentures. You were seen for treatment on September26, 2023,April 15, 2024, May 8, 2024, and July 24, 2024. We cannot confirm any discussion about costs. The office reports patients are advised of denture steps. This includes the estimated time between visits based on case return time from the dental lab.
The office acknowledges staffing shortages has impacted treatment progress. The office has been working with another office to get patients seen for impressions. We are sorry for the miscommunication with the office staff. We regret any misunderstanding you may have had about treatment options.Initial Complaint

This dental office performed a molar filling after I specifically instructed them not to. I thought I was there for a follow up on another molar they filled incorrectly. Instead of fixing it they drilled the tooth next to it, even though I didnt have any pain or discomfort and had already instructed them not to fill any teeth without my request for it. Now I have another faulty filling that has infected my jaw bone and compromised my bite making it higher on one side and caused crowding on my right lower side. Before going here my teeth were in perfectly straight condition. My last visit was another emergency appointment for antibiotics, afterwards they insisted on scheduling me for two more fillings on teeth that are not causing me any pain or discomfort. When I said I didnt want to do fillings on teeth that arent bothering they argued with me and scheduled the appointment anyway. Im frustrated because Im likely going to lose this infected back molar. I feel they are scamming the state of **************** by doing unnecessary and unwanted procedures at the cost of the patients health and tax payers dollars.Business response

Complaint: 21478155
I am rejecting this response because: Im currently suffering with an infection in my tooth and jaw requiring immediate attention. I wasnt administered any antibiotics at the last visit and was told I needed a root canal and crown as a result of the procedure causing infection. I need $3,000 to cover out of pocket and have already made one appeal to my insurance after being denied coverage for the botched procedure which I specifically requested not to have due to my medications effect on my tooth dentin. I need this issue addressed immediately for my current risk to health. I have an ongoing infection currently and need further care to be done and paid for.

I believe this office (*******, ******) is cancelling my appointments because I have OHP, so they have the time available to give to non-OHP patients. They have cancelled on me the last two times I have had an appointment, once a week before and once the day before my appointment. I have suffered both physically and financially because of their actions. This has been awful treatment by this office. I once had an abscess and received a tele-visit. They quality of care was nonexistent, and I had to go to urgent care and then pay out of pocket for another dentist to help me. Then I had a cavity, waited almost three months for an appointment, they cancelled a week prior to appointments, re-scheduled me for another three months out, by then the cavity was so large that I was told I now need a root canal and crown, which will now cost me several thousand dollars! Then they cancelled my most recent appointment, that I waited almost three months for again, the day before the appointment. I told them I now have a broken tooth, and the best they could do was a new appointment 1-3 weeks out. But someone has to take time off work to watch my child, so this is costing me money every time this happens. And I refuse to even consider making another appointment with this office, because they will most likely just cancel on me again after waiting with an active tooth problem. This treatment is unacceptable.Business response

I need to get my teeth cleaned. The wait times are very, very long. Every time I get on the list and wait the incredibly long time, they call me and cancel the appointment. One time they asked me to wait a year. This has been happening to me for a while. I posted a BBB complaint before, but the old manager named ****** called me and we agreed that I would take the complaint down and she would get me an appointment. Well she did, and sure enough for the second time they canceled it and wanted me to wait another 8 months. I am starting to feel they are making this personal and on purpose, because I complained. I think I am also being discriminated against. I would like to have the over all manager call me and apologize, and get me an appointment.Business response

We spoke to the office about your concerns. We apologize the office was not able to get you scheduled sooner. Records show you had your teeth cleaned on May 18, 2023. Our records show you had one appointment cancelled in 2023 and one cancelled in 2022. These were cancelled due to the office not having a hygienist at that time. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Better Business Bureau:Once I wrote to you guys I dad have the manager from the bend office contact me, and she did get me in right away!
I do appreciate that and I am grateful that they got me in.
I just wish that if they are so understaffed and this is happening to lot's of other people, which I hear it is, they should let the state know, so the state can take measures to help people.
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Hello,My complaint is in regard to Advantage Dental. My daughter and I both have been seen at Advantage Dental over the past couple of years. My daughter had a cavity, and it took 4 months for a follow up appointment to get it remedied. As a result, she required oral surgery and almost $1000 in bills. The negligence was profound and the care was terrible.I called in September to get an appointment to have my teeth cleaned. The earliest appointment was on February 7th so I booked the appointment and showed up as scheduled. When I was there I found out that they didn't have a dental hygienist on site any longer and they are now only taking Xrays to determine if there is a massive problem. I asked them if I had the **rays, and needed care, when the next appointment was available and they told me December 2023. They should not be seeing patients if they don't have any staff. I believe that this will lead to missed diagnoses and ultimately cost people dearly. I have good insurance so I will be transferring to a new dentist immediately. I believe that they should refund all dollars paid because the cavity expanded tremendously and almost cost my daughter her tooth.Business response

This office has a contract with the state to provide care for low income people. They are not honoring that contract and are treating customers terrible.
