Kevin came out and looked at my ** electric range as the *** was having trouble and not picking up inputs from the buttons. I opened the oven up, pulled it out, showed him the issue, mentioned the exact ribbon where the inputs come from. He looks at it for a minute or two before going to his van to check something. Comes back and says it will be about $530 for the repair. You know what he wrote down on the bill? "Computer broken". I told him I'd seen the part for fairly cheap and was hoping to maybe even just replace the ribbon, but he gave me the typical "If you see it that cheap let me know cause I'd sell 'em". Here is the link for that part at $140 https://www.partsimple.com/lg-ebr77562706-range-oven-control-board.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwmuiTBhDoARIsAPiv6L_d-B9yOkOOMAYS__62TctWw9xYuseD4AFqrZJpRgYo8zzIxuOufN8aAmxqEALw_wcB He didn't even try to unseat and reseat the ribbon cable, which is the FIRST thing that comes up when you search that problem. Then he drops that the service charge for looking at it for a minute and saying "Computer broken" is $139.95. He also mentions he ONLY accepts checks or cash. I haven't had a business not accept a card in like a decade. My wife got home and mentioned paying with a card to literally buy strawberries at the farmer's market. He very forcefully demanded the money saying "Well how are you gonna pay me?". Eventually I contacted my wife and found some cash, but the whole experience was incredibly sketchy and I honestly feel scammed and robbed. I can only assume he doesn't accept other forms of payment so that people won't dispute the charges through their bank or online service. He also has a totally different company name than the one on his website.

      Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/05/11) */ **** I am sorry that you feel that way. Un arrival I began a series of test with the touchpad. I found that some of the keys were not responding to touch. The first thing I did is went to the back and disconnected the ribbon cable checked the contacts put it back in reseated it. When I came to you to talk about the issue I explain to you that that's exactly what I did. At that time you explain to me that you've done the same thing several times. So I am surprised that you would lie in your complaint to say that I did not do that. And I clearly explained to you that that's exactly what I did. The price that I quoted you for the job the $530 that includes parts and labor. That is the going rate for that job according to the appliance repair blue book. When I went out to my van that is exactly what I did I looked up the price for that particular job Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/05/13) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Here is a link to the first video that comes up when you search ** oven buttons not working. https://www.*******.com/watch?v=2yDAa2xwNxw The first one. Has suggestions for how to try and fix contacts for that cable. Which by the way you did NOT touch, as I had already opened it up and left with the cable lock open and was in the exact same position when you left. I was also literally right there. I heard and saw what you did. Beyond that video suggestions it's also possible to repair ribbon cables in several different ways. Many times the contacts can be cleaned or repaired without having to replace an entire pcb. I work in software engineering and I worked on electronics in the Navy. I am aware of what should be done and how to do it but I have a job and a 5 year old daughter so I was hoping someone else would handle that, rather than just showing up and pushing buttons and saying "defective computer". I actually repaired the burners and most of the other functionality myself afterwards by cleaning the contacts with IPA and an eraser. The fact is you didn't know what you were doing and it really seems like this is a pattern with you. Several other reviews on BBB and elsewhere state that you showed up, did almost nothing, gave the people a quote that was more than their appliance was worth, then charged them $139.95 for doing nothing. Another customer stated that they also knew what the exact issue was and that you ignored that problem as well. Beyond that, here is site that gives estimates on various repairs. https://www.***********.com/cost/kitchens/oven-repair/ Here is what they say about control board replacement: Oven Control Board Replacement Cost Replacing the control board runs between $220 and $300. Anytime you preheat the oven or switch over to broiling (or even just glance at the clock), you're interacting with the control board. Beyond that I have also contacted 3 other appliance repair specialists in Nashville, all of which quoted me at less than $400 for replacing the pcb, part EBRXXXXXXXX in a model LRE3083SB ** electric range. You can clearly look up that part and see the cost. And it's not a labor intensive replacement. The fact that in this day in age you also wouldn't take a card or any type of electronic payment is also suspicious, as if you don't want people disputing the charges through those services, or else you don't want to have to report your earnings. Finally even if you had actually done anything that service fee is absurd. First of all you should be telling people ahead of time what the fee will be, and I can see why you wouldn't, because I have had all kinds of work done repairing things in this house and never once has anyone charged $140 for any service fee ever. I've had electricians come by and actually not charge anything because the issue was something they couldn't do anything about and it only took a few minutes to find that out. Or HVAC where they charged about $80 for an hour's worth of work. I've reached out to several other people for their accounts as well, as I said you have a history of this, but regardless I will not accept any response other than a full refund. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/05/17) */ I stand by my price for the repairs that you need on your oven. I understand you do not like the price and that you received other prices from other people that were lower. I am sure that there are companies that would charge a higher price as well. You are free to go with whatever service you choose for the price that they quote. FYI many companies only give a 90 day warranty with their repairs. Even the manufacture of those computer boards only guarantees their part for 90 days. We guarantee the parts for one year at our cost. I also understand that you do not like the service charge of 139.95, that is our rate for walking into a person's home. That is our charge whether or not the customer decides to have us do the repair or not or if they do not like the price that we quoted them. As far as the ribbon cable goes I have no idea what you're talking about you were not there watching me. The first thing I did once I got into the back of the oven was to pull the ribbon cable out I inspected it pushed it back in several times. In regards to the not accepting credit cards, I'm a small business there a high fees associated with the use of credit cards. It's a business decision that I've made a number of years back not to except them anymore. And so at this point the $139.95 charge is our trip charge for coming out which is something that we did. As well as we accurately diagnose the problem that you were having with your oven.
