      I was using the app Hinge and got banned unexpectedly and no information was provided. I find it highly distressing that this business has retained my personal information and my photos. I am seeking for them to unban me. I was on the app to seek a genuine connection and find love as it is all done via dating apps now. I wish for help from the BBB to fix this issue for me. I am not comfortable with a business retaining my images and information whilst simultaneously not allowing me to use the service I provided the aforementioned data for.

      I am rejecting this response because: I am not as concerned with the ban which I reject in its totality as the replies were automated and the review process had no due dilligence. My rejection of this clearly templated reply that Hinge provided BBB is because of the fact that the company is retaining my images and personal data and I have no option to remove them from their platform.

      If I was using the app I would have the option to remove my personal information at my discretion. I now, however, cannot have my personal information removed. This is highly distressing for me.

      I was banned for allegedly breaking Hinges terms of use/community guidelines. I have been an active on and off member of the community for the last 8 or so years (with breaks, i.e. when in a relationship or seeing someone). During that time, Ive largely been a paid subscriber to Hinge+.Ive never posted any racy pictures and never interacted with anyone in a way that would cause any harm (emotionally, physically, mentally, financially etc.). Ive acted in a way thats in line with my character and would like to say Ive been additive to the great Hinge community. I would hope I have never made anyone uncomfortable with anything Ive said. Being insensitive is not in my character.Thats why I was very shocked to see that I was banned. Im not sure if this was an erroneous flag by Hinges automated bans system. All I ask is for a fair review of my profile, including full permission to review my chats. I am confident that an arbiter would agree that my actions in the app and the community have not been malicious or crossed lines.I completely understand the privacy of not revealing individual reports, but if the decision is to retain the ban, it would be helpful to understand what exactly triggered this. I am happy to take any steps to remediate and have my account reinstated.I trust that I will be offered a fair review. Thank you.

      I am rejecting this response because: there has been no evidence of a legitimate human review. Even the response here on BBB are carbon copies and its clear they do not have an actual dedicated group clearing or reviewing appeals. There is a lack of substantial review and the company is going against its own policies. This feels like a money grab, as people like me who are active, prepaid subscribers are not being delivered what we paid for and are having our subscriptions cut short without any options for pro rata refunds. All I ask is that my account be reinstated, or provide steps beyond an incredibly vague appeals process when I am certain I have not breached your terms of use. Provide a human response and not something manufactured by ****.

      I am rejecting this response because: Ive discovered that I am the target of revenge reporting from one particular individual. I request that my case is re-opened. I know this would be asking for an exception to your policy, but I was not panicked to see a ban and did not know this when I initially appealed. I am a person of good character, with flaws as is anyone, but the revenge report came from a person I just did not align with. As Im quite introverted, its difficult to date without a medium like Hinge. Doesnt everyone deserve a fair chance at love? I ask you to please reconsider opening the appeal. Thank you very much.

      After creating an account on ********************, I was surprised and saddened to find that my account was banned just one day later, despite making every effort to interact politely and respectfully with others. Hinge was the first dating app where I genuinely felt that things were different offering quality matches, meaningful conversations, and authentic potential for real connections. In the brief time before the ban, I had several positive interactions and believed that the platform could truly help me find meaningful relationships.The ban was especially discouraging because I have not violated any terms of service or behaved inappropriately. I had sincerely hoped to continue using the platform to search for love in a respectful and positive way.I have reached out to Hinge requesting a manual review of the ban, expressing my willingness to clarify any misunderstandings or provide any necessary information.       again I have done nothing wrong. I have seen on forums that a lot of other people have the same problem where they get banned from the app for someone sending in a complaint even though they did nothing wrong. Essentially shadow banned. 
      I have been nothing respectful inside and outside of the app. I have not used derogatory language and images. I am on the app to make genuine connections. 
      I have filed a complaint to the department of justice for discrimination.

      Hinge is a dating service app for people across the Nation. After doing my research I had decided to make an account with them. *****. My account was banned with zero explanation. I have emailed them several times with zero response and zero explanation from the company. I have for a reason and none was granted. I have strong suspicion, from my associates who use the app, that there may have been pictures fished from another one of my social accounts, and those pictures are used to create an account that I did not authorize.       I am rejecting this response because:  I have followed all terms and agreement with all of the apps and there is not anything I did wrong and no proof. Every time I was catfished or met someone mean I literally blocked or unmatched with them and never said anything negative. I understand if someone is using the app to bully people then youd want to ban them but thats not me. I have been my authentic self and I am a nice person. Why is it just a ban based on assumption? Ive had hinge for as long as I can remember and Ive never had any issues.. Im a gay person of color looking for love outside of this small town and now its impossible because of hearsay? I truly dont understand at all. Please reconsider your stance on unbanning my account. Im not on the app for malicious reasons. Im a real person Im not a catfish

      I created a Hinge account and used it appropriately for four days before I was unexpectedly banned without warning or explanation. During the time I had access, I only matched with users, chatted respectfully, and made plans to meet. I never solicited money, made lewd comments, or engaged in any behavior that would violate the Terms of Service.I did encounter issues with Hinge's photo verification system, which repeatedly failed to verify me. I reached out to their support team, who reassured me that verification was optional and that I could continue using the app while updating my photos. I was in the process of selecting new photos when my account was banned.I am extremely disappointed in how this was handled. Hinge provided no justification for the ban, and no opportunity to appeal or clarify the situation. I feel that my account was banned unfairly and arbitrarily. I respectfully request that my account be reinstated so that I can continue using the service in good faith.

      I have never berated anyone for their opinions, be it political or social, and I have always been open to talking to others.

      Understand Consent is Critical

      I have always asked for consent before asking someone on a date, and have responded properly if consent is not given by unmatching.

      Respect Boundaries

      I have always asked for my match's boundaries. I asked one match for their Instagram, and they agreed and gave it to me. If they didn't agree, they would have not given it to me, and I would have respected that, as I understand they don't want me to be that personal yet.

      Be Honest

      The photos that I put on my profile are of me in the past year, and all have been of me, or of me and a few friends. I am not sure if having friends on my photos caused the violation, and if so, I would promptly change my profile if it violated such terms. I have attached photos that were on my profile to this message, and I believe they do not violate the rules. Please advise if they do not.

      Put in Effort

      I filled out my full profile, and liked profiles that I was interested in, spending time to find my match, rather than treating Hinge as a joke like others do. My messages on the profile even stated that I was looking to "study together" or "watch kdramas" together. I was never looking for anything else, nor solicited as such.

      Seek Meaningful Relationships

      I joined hinge to find a meaningful relationship, in that I am looking for someone to spend my time with. My profile was designed and indicated as such.

      As according to the terms and conditions, I do not have a criminal history and I have never disrespected others that I have been involved with. I don't have screenshots of my profile, but to the others who saw my profile and my response, including my friends, all found it to be either "cute" or respectful while being meaningful.

      I am extremely disappointed that Hinge has refused to consider these actions, nor share if there was a report against me or not, definitively. A simple yes or no answer would suffice, with no personal information given. Even pointing out what was violated in the terms of use would be helpful in my response. To the several people I matched with, none have shared any concerns, and the people I am in contact with still have said that nothing was amiss with my behavior or my profile.

      Further, a support representative stated that

      "If our selfie verification software cannot verify your identity
      using the photos you currently have on your profile, we strongly
      recommend changing one of your photos. It is entirely okay if you do not
      want to change your pictures, but your profile will not be selfie
      verified."

      I opted not to change photos since I have very few photos of myself I am willing to share, so I stayed unverified, which the support representative said was ok. Did this cause my ban? Please let me know as soon as possible.

      Dear Better Business Bureau,I am filing this complaint regarding Hinge, which banned my account without justification around November 2024.Heres what happened: I matched with another user who initially appeared friendly. However, the interaction quickly turned hostile. The user fabricated an outlandish story about being a nudist who sleeps with friends, among other bizarre claims. She then aggressively questioned my intentions on the app. I responded respectfully and honestly, saying that while my initial interest was casual, I found her story unusual and continued the conversation out of curiosity.Immediately afterward, she began verbally abusing me. She insulted my appearance, falsely claimed to have shown my photo to 30 people for mockery, and even said her uncle, allegedly in the cybercrimes unit, had accessed my private search history (an absurd and threatening claim). She then stated she had reported me to the authorities none of which was based on any real misconduct on my part.Feeling harassed and unsafe, I reported her profile to Hinge through the app's reporting feature. Shockingly, shortly after, my own account was banned without any explanation or opportunity to appeal.This experience was deeply distressing and has severely impacted my mental well-being. Hinge was the only platform where I had genuine opportunities to meet people, and losing access without cause has felt deeply unfair.I am requesting the following:1.       - The date, time-stamp, and duration of the review.
      - The specific Terms of Service section(s) and the factual basis on which you determined I violated them.

      Per your publicly posted Terms of Use, Hinge may terminate [accounts] without warning only if it believes a user has violated these Terms, misused our Services, or behaved in a wayinappropriate or unlawful  . I did not engage in any misconductas evidenced by my original report of harassment and retaliatory behaviour by another user.

      I was a paying Hinge Premium member for several months when I was suddenly banned from the platform without warning or any explanation. No specific reason was provided, and I was not made aware of any violation of the terms and conditions. To my knowledge, I did not engage in any behavior that would warrant a ban. If I inadvertently violated a policy, I sincerely apologize.Two years later, I attempted to access my account again and found the ban still in place. I also discovered that the appeal option is no longer available due to the passage of time.I believe it is unfair and unethical for a company to terminate a paid membership without transparency, a clear explanation, or a chance to appeal, especially when the user is left without recourse.       I reject the notion that Hinge can ban paying customers without warning, explanation, or recourse at any time. The Terms of Service, which customers are required to accept without negotiation, create a severe power imbalance and are presented on a take-it-or-leave-it basis. This raises serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and legality.


      The way Hinge applies its terms allows users to be banned without notice or knowledge of the alleged violation. This creates a troubling opportunity for users to be banned for potentially illegitimate or discriminatory reasons, such as religion, race, or other protected categories, without their awareness. Without transparency or due process, there is no safeguard against discriminatory or arbitrary enforcement.


      Merely including a clause in a Terms of Service agreement does not automatically make it legally sound or enforceable. If extreme or unjust terms were included, they would rightly be challenged in court. Similarly, Hinges current policy creates an environment where discriminatory practices could occur without oversight, posing a significant societal risk.

      I am rejecting this response because: No guilty company would admit to discriminatory practices. There needs to be transparency to see if discrimination has taken place rather than allowing for bias to arise from within unmonitored and unexplained. Due to my concern around potential discriminatory practices which I have identified through other users experiences / testimonies and which can be difficult to officially detect given the non-transparent policies strictly enforced by Hinge, I will appeal with the *** and legal representation in a class action lawsuit.
