Consumer beware. They will tell you one thing on the phone and then screw you on your electric bill. I called and asked what "net-exporter" meant and I was told it was only for customers that produce 4 to 5 times what they use. Based on this, I signed up for a 3 year RISE plan. Then I get a letter a year later, labeling me as a "net-exporter" and that they want to decrease by buyback rate from $.10/kwh to $.029/kwh. I call and ask if I can stay with my current contract ($.10/kwh solar buyback), and their rep said I could but that I wouldn't be able to roll over monthly credits. I was ok with that, but my very next bill has my buyback rate at the ERCOT average rate. After many emails back and forth, they still won't take ownership of what their customer representatives told me on the phone. I feel like this is as close to a bait-and-switch scenario as you can get. Please don't waste your time on this business. And don't fall for their marketing. Simplicity, transparency and integrity? Not at this company.Review from Ayesha H

If you’re thinking about changing your electric service company to find a better deal for the excess kilowatts your solar panels produce, be careful. Some businesses, especially the “new” ones that promote 100 percent green energy, like Charot Energy, are in the business of making money off of unsuspecting new customers. They buy low from you, often much lower than their sale price. I was recently in a variable rate plan with Chariot Energy, a plan different from the plan I thought I had signed-up for. After awhile, I realized this and that they were buying my excess energy for less than a penny per kilowatt. After signing-up for any new service, one should make sure to read the “fine-print” details that are likely to be contained in an email PDF attachment sent several days after you have verbally agreed to the contract over the phone. I had not noticed the email sent to me and, like a dummy, I failed to follow-up before the published contract rescission date. Accordingly, to stop the rip-off I had to pay this company a transfer fee amounting to over $400. But, by the time I discovered this scam, I was upset enough that I would have paid more.Chariot Energy Response

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and feedback with us. We are truly disheartened to hear about your dissatisfaction with our services. At Chariot Energy, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of transparency and integrity, and we want every interaction a customer has with us to reflect those values.
Our records indicate that Mr. Garry contacted Chariot Energy and enrolled in our Shine 36 plan. During the call, Mr. Garry was advised that the buyback rate is based on Real Time Market Pricing capped at 25 cents per kWh. The welcome package sent to Mr. Garry includes the Electricity Facts Label (EFL), which states the following regarding the Excess Energy Credit Calculation.
“If you generate and export more energy to the grid than your home consumes (Excess Energy Exported), you will get a bill credit for the amount of net excess energy exported (Excess Energy Credit), based on your utility meter data. You will get an Excess Energy Credit on your bill based on the excess number of kWh exported multiplied by the real-time settlement point price for your congestion zone at the time of export, capped at 25¢ per kWh, which will be displayed on your monthly bill at a single price point representing the average of all price points applied during the time of billing.”
Again, thank you for providing your feedback and giving us the opportunity to address this review. We hope that our findings, as reported, bring closure to the concerns filed by Mr. Garry.Review from Jonathan T

I was contacted by Chariot to start an account. I was told that I could be on the RISE 36 plan, as I get a credit in the winter, and have a bill in the summer, due to the AC. Unfortunately they lied and stated that because I got credits during the winter, I am a "net exporter", and will no longer be able to get credits. I can change my plan to the shine program, but then you only get about .02 per kwh. Yes they say it "can go up to .025" but its never even close to the one on one rate. Do not go with them, as they will do the same to you.Review from Scott G

I can only speak about the sign up process since my contract has just started. The online sign up is simple and fast, easily the best I've experienced in the last few years. Adding a different billing address than the service address is easy. Setting up autopay is also easy. (I've had issues with this with other providers.) The confirmation text and email comes instantly. The switch happens within 3 hours from sign up and you get the official text and email confirming that your provider has changed right away. (The last provider I never received confirmation and had to call to be sure the switch had happened.) Your online account is updated with contract information right away. The online layout is clean and intuitive. I highly recommend commend their handling of switching providers. I've not had to contact customer service for anything.Chariot Energy Response
