I purchased a refurbished computer from Discount Electronics (DE) for $210.99 including tax and shipping. It failed after one day. Upon DE's direction to open the case and reseat memory boards, two pieces of metal fell out. Those pieces appear to be brackets from the mother board or from the case itself. Clearly, the item was not merchantible. I wanted to return it at DE'x expense. They refused. I advised them of the *** section on merchantibility. They again refused. **** selling junk that does not work and hidingbehind their warranty. Their expressed warranty has no wording decribing their product asbeing sold "as is" or similar words.Business response

I'm sorry the system was not received in working order. All of our computers have a one year warranty. We can repair or replace the system under warranty. Please contact internet sales and customer service at *********************************** or ************.

I am rejecting this response because: they violated the *** laws and **************** law on merchantibility. They knowlingly sold defective merchandise. The only appropriate action on their part is a full refund. The cost of a court case wouldbe $200 for filing in ********** plus $200 for domesticationin *****, plux $200 for ***** law enforcement of the writ of judgement. Thus, Discount Electronics will be out at least four times the purchase price, plus any travel expenses Imight incur. They need to refund the full price.

On 2/20/23, I ordered a laptop online from Discount Electronics. After checking out with PayPal Credit, I noticed that the laptop wasn't new but refurbished I did not want to pay $315 for a refurbished laptop, so I emailed them and asked to cancel the order. They replied with an email that confirmed that the order had been canceled, and let me know that I had $315 in store credit. PayPal has the payment listed as "pending", so I can't dispute the transaction until it is paid out. At that point I will be out $315, but I will have $315 in store credit that I neither want or need.Business response

Returned my de;; **** for a repair under warranty, I sent in carefully wrapped bubble wrap, it was received and repaired and when returned the power supply and cord were not in box discount electronics responded on missing item and said it was noted no power supply, that i must have lost/misplaced it before sending, hard to imagine they would say that , i know its only a 20.00 item but im already out the shipping I paid , very unhappy, I am hoping they make it right, trust in a company is more important than a 20 dollar item, I paid almost $ 600 for my purchaseBusiness response

I bought a refurbished computer, when i first got it, it would not charge or take my email address. They sent me a return label to fix the computer, when in a week I got the same computer back, they put on a new battery, but it still would not let me put in my email addresses. I sent them a text and tghey said that was not their problem, I would need to take it to someone to fix that problem. I told them it was not my fault the computer wouldn't work. I am rejecting this response because: I bought this computer thinking it was ready for all works and email addresses. The first time i received this computer it did not charge or take email addrresses. I told the company where I bought it the sent me a return label, changed the battery andd sent it back. The email addresses would not load on computer. I don't see why I should have to pay for something that does not work.

I purchased a Computer from Discount Electronics. I received the computer it had no power after plugging it in the computer did not work at all. I immediately made Discount Electronics aware of this problem. They then informed me I could return the computer for store credit, I was not made aware of this policy prior to my purchase. I requested a full refund of my money, They refused to refund my money. This is the second time they have shipped me faulty equipment. I want a full refund of my purchase, not store credit.Business response

i saw a commercial on ******* for discount previously leased computer equipment. I was told it would be in good refurbished condition. I was told how much of a great fair company they were. All of this was lies. I ordered 2 desktop computers for $50. Now i know 50 is not much but to me it is a huge amount. I am buying these machines for 2 children i know of low income families for school work. now the only negative thing they said was no hard drives. They also advertise full case systems but they say you may not get them but the advertise if thats what you want that you can get full case. so thats lie 1. These machines are not anywhere near complete only misssing hard drives one machine is missing a dvd drive the other is misssing ram. Both machines and completely filthy (dust) and we all know the first part of refurished is to clean it. second is to make sure all parts are the and working. the thrid problem is one of the machines looks busted apart on the plastic part of the case (by the way i can send pics of all this). and fourth lie both machines have a head phone jack in front and both look like someone shoved something in the and scramble it about. Now that headphone jack should be attached to the motherboard and wires. With these headphone jacks in that state im affraid to turn them on it could cause a short or a expsed wire could cause a fire. So i was completely mislead as to condition and as to what i would be receiving for my money. Now Im told I have to pay to ship them back and they will take 15% of my money to take them back. This all sounds very illegal and dangerous. I just want either 2 computers as described by the or all my money back including shipping. I dont see why i should loose any money because of the lies and bad business practices please help thank youBusiness response

I saved my Social Security for 2 months so I could buy a laptop to replace my dying present laptop. When the laptop arrived the inmstalled Windows 7 was not 'activated' and they sent a paper saying that it my responcibility to get it 'activated. I am crippled, i have to use a wheelchair to move and my hands do work well, so I wrote them and complained. All I got were excuses and no resolution. Hello,
We ship all of our systems with a clean installation of the operating system. Each system has a valid Microsoft license either on a paper certificate of authenticity, COA, or a digital license. In your case the license is a paper COA. We do not go through the initial windows setup because there are many choices that are specific to the end user. Since these initial steps must be completed prior to windows activation we do not activate the windows license ourselves. This is why we send detailed instructions and links to Microsoft's site explaining precisely how to activate windows. I will speak with my customer service team and see if there is any way we can get your system activated remotely or over the phone.

I am rejecting this response because:None of this information was told me and as you see by the pdf of the webpage was not listed on the webpage. Had I been informed of these condition prior to the purchase, I would have purchased from this company. In my opinion this is fraud! they must recify this situation immediately!.
I am an old crippled man (confined to a wheelchair) with my hands and fingers almost useless. this company MUST rectify this. I have purchased othe refurbished laptops in the past and they have ALWAYS had the operating system activated. I believe what they have written are nothing more than excuses to stall things.
please do everything possible to help, I need the new laptop working properly before my old laptop dies completely. For this reason I say that this must be recified immediately..

We can activate the laptop for you if you send it back to us. We can also send you a prepaid UPS label to send it back to us at no cost to you. We will ship it back at our expense as well. Respectfully, it would save you time to attempt to activate Windows with the instructions that we provided. I am rejecting this response because:I reject this suggestion! It is nothing more than a 'stall tactic'. The company knows I am handicapped (confined to a wheelchair with hands and finger nthat barely function). I have no way to go get a box and packing to ship the computer ( since I am incapable of driving and I live alone with no one to help). in addition, their last letter said they were going to do an activation at their location and send me the codes - now they want me to send the computer (stall tactic). Furthermore, as stated in prior communications I did 'follow' the letter sent and it did not work (which I have added to this email). If discount had done what they said the laptop I purchesed woulf be functioning by now! I accuse them of stalling and further fraud.
Does the BBB think I should contact FEDERAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS and FBI internet fraud division. This company posts deceptive webpages on the internet, thereby defrauding senior citizens like myself. Who knows how many people they harmed in one form or another.

On 26 January 2022 I made an unnecessary online purchase through PayPay and within 30 minutes attempted to cancel it by contacting DiscountElectronics directly via both phone and email. I received an email reply from them the same evening with an attached PNG file stating that All Refunds are issued as Store Credit only and there would be an additional restock fee of 15%. Their Refund Policy is covertly located in tiny print at the bottom of their Home Page and I was NOT PRESENTED with ANY Terms of Agreement when I made the purchase. Having contacted them promptly per PayPal's recommendation but my timely request to cancel the order was ignored and I received an email from them on the morning of 28 January, 2022 stating that the item has been shipped. I find their Return Policy both unfair and covert and their business ethics less than honorable.Business response

This is a fairly common issue with Windows 10 settings for tablet mode or rotation lock. By default it is enabled. This article details how to resolve this issue. **********************************************************************************************************************. I understand you have already reached out to customer service and they have advised you on how to set up the system as your prefer, but it is not a defect. For that reason we cannot issue a refund.
