On June 13, 2022, BBB contacted Mary Jane’s CBD Dispensary regarding advertised claims for CBD products on their website: https://mjcbdd.com/pages/cbd-shop-herbal-medicine-store-helotes-tx-bandera-location.
Specifically, BBB requested Mary Jane’s CBD Dispensary to substantiate or discontinue advertisements on their website alleging several health and disease-related claims regarding the potential benefits from CBD products, including how CBD can assist with anxiety, chronic conditions, depression, immune system, inflammation, pain., panic attacks, sleep disorders and stress.
Mary Jane’s CBD Dispensary also claims that CBD is safe for pets in the following claim: “Yes, it's safe for pets. Some people use CBD oil for dogs, cats, etc! When you give CBD oil to your pet it can feel some of the same benefits CBD can give you. CBD is an antioxidant, neuroprotectant, and anti-inflammatory. It also can help for medical conditions like anxiety or appetite loss.”
BBB Code of Advertising states: The primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB.
BBB Code of Advertising also states claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy, or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.
BBB requested Mary Jane’s CBD Dispensary to provide evidence from recent, reliable, and competent studies or other objective data which may include scientific findings, FDA approvals, clinical studies, or other objective data to substantiate the claim or discontinue the advertised claims to address BBB’s concern.
As of July 11, 2022, Mary Jane’s CBD Dispensary failed to respond to BBB's requests to modify, substantiate or discontinue the advertised claims.
