I went to City Creek mall to have dinner and do some shopping. I’d just gotten out of visiting a friend in the U of U Hospital ICU. I decided to take advantage of the 2 hour free parking in the garage and was given a small paper receipt when I entered. After about an hour and a half of shopping, I returned to my car only to notice that I’d misplaced my receipt. I Drove to the parking garage exit and selected the “lost or missing ticket” option. To my surprise, it wouldn’t let me leave without paying $20 for 10 hours worth of parking. This seemed ridiculous so I talked to customer service. They explained, that their policy had recently changed to assume that anyone who lost their ticket had been there the whole day. This was incredibly frustrating. I decided to check if I had ever agreed to this policy. If I had known about it I would have been doubly sure not to lose my ticket. I looked everywhere for somewhere that mentioned this policy. I read the entire terms and agreements and FAQ on the Citycreek Parking website. It says nothing about charging you $20 for a missing ticket. I came back to the parking garage the next week and read the signs coming in and the entirety of the text on a new ticket. Nothing. It’s extremely dishonest for this company to not advertise this policy. It should be clear to anyone entering the parking garage that losing a ticket will lead to your car being detained until you pay a $20 fine. At a minimum the policy should be described in their terms and agreements.
