If you have a new house built by MSH be sure you keep lots of extra cash in the bank. You will need it a couple of years after you move in. Prepare to replace big ticket items. I replaced the shower ********** tile surround 18 months ago in the master bathroom. The original vendor installed tiles in the shower with no backer board. I'm surprised I had no leaks or tiles falling on my head. My HVAC units have been a problem since I moved in (12/2020), spent a fortune on repairs & now have ordered a new, higher efficiency better quality system to be installed this week. I am also replacing the c*** windows upstairs (16 of them) with double hung, triple pane, energy efficient ones. Life is too short to spend freezing your **** off in a house that was built 4 years ago.

Finishes and subcontractor accountability are poor. We have had numerous issues - mostly minor, but A LOT of them. Its particularly annoying when you spend over $700K on a house and they cant seem to see slanted drywall corners, flooring with saw blade overcuts, sloppy paint, screens that dont fit, inaccurate wire size installed, crooked handles, incorrectly hung doors, the list goes on. It takes time out of my schedule to deal with contractors coming back out to re-do work.Our latest and biggest battle - we upgraded into better flooring for waterproofing, but its not. MSH installed the hardwood flooring differently than Mohawks published installation instructions, which means part of our waterproof warranty is sacrificed. So the sell in the design center is miscommunicated and misrepresented. After fighting, they (MSH and Mohawk) agree theres a miscommunication - they wont admit to any wrongdoing - but in the end Mohawk is apparently going to refund us the upgraded amount. Im not sure why Mohawk is compensating us, not Main Street, but at this point I dont care. The fact that nobody accepts responsibility, that MSH doesnt hold the subcontractors accountable, is hard to fathom, but its reality. I would NOT recommend Main Street to anyone looking to buy a new construction home. If you do, make sure you can stand up for yourself and push hard (because theyll belittle you and make you think that all these things are normal). Having a mechanically included background, or at least understanding how things work and calling them out is the only way to get what you want and what youve paid for. Are any other home builders any better? Probably not. Is the house going to fall apart? Not likely. But its still not acceptable workmanship and they should be embarrassed to pride themselves they way they do. They should be ashamed of how crappy their work ethic is. How do you sleep at night knowing you half-@$$ed a home that people spend hard earned money for?Review from John H
