Insurance billing errors. I had surgery in September 2022, this company is supposed to be billing company that performed the anesthesia. They billed my insurance company and received the payment. In February of 2025, American Anesthesia of Virginia charged my health saving account for a new payment that was not the original service. Their error froze my health saving account, and I had to get a new card losing the use of the funds in my account. ********************** Anesthesia charged for a service that was not provided nor within the year from which to charge my account. ********************** Anesthesia of Virginia did not follow billing laws in a timely manner and is creating false bills to get other payments. Their own webpage has numerous complaints similar to mine. This practice of creating a false bill to receive additional payments is completely fraudulent. I called the company and they could not tell me what the service was for or which year the service occurred, I presume that it was the Sept 2022 surgery as that would be the only time from which I needed anethesia. I continued to receive a bill for a service that was not rendered which is why I refused to pay. Because I have not paid for this fraudulent charge, American Anesthesia of Virginia has sent my issue to collections in order to extort money from me. I need assistance to rectify this issue and prevent it from happening again and or to other persons.Business Response

A bill for anesthesiology services was given March 2023 of $262.64.This was paid July 2023 but was charged three times by mistake to our bank (and we were refunded by our bank)After we were refunded, this business continued to say we owed $131. Despite trying to explain to them that we did not owe this, they continued to send emails, texts, and bills to us.We tried to remedy this by paying (we did not owe this money, but they were impossible to get in touch with) and were AGAIN charged twice. Despite having proof we have paid this bill, they continue to bill us, have said the bill is overdue, and threaten collections. They do not call back when we try to get in touch with them. I am at a loss of what to do. I have documentation from my bank with all the transactions and refunds, but they will not listen to us. I am afraid this will be sent to collections but we do NOT owe any money. All bills have been paid. They owe us money now.Business Response

AA of Virginia received an inquiry regarding a patient that we provided anesthesia services to on 3/4/23 at ************************. Our office conducted a full review of the billing for the services for this patient and below is a summary of our findings.
The original balance due on this account after the insurance processed was $262.64. The 7/19/23 payment of $262.64 ran three times, creating a credit balance of $525.28. On 7/27/23 NAPA refunded $525.28 back onto the card used for the original payments. Also on 7/27/23 the patients bank recouped $525.28. This brought the balance up to $525.28. These transactions are reflected on the patient statement dated 8/25/23 (attached)
Due to a system problem, bills went out for only $131.32 when the actual balance due was $525.28.
On 12/5/23 a payment of $131.32 ran twice. This brought the total amount due to $262.64.
The online portal is being updated to reflect the correct balance due of $262.64. An updated statement will be mailed to the patient reflecting the balance due of $262.64.
Our goal is to provide exceptional patient care and excellent customer service to all of our patients and their families and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.Initial Complaint

I have received a collection notice for anesthesia received on 10/22/2019. In researching payment, I found they had filed a similar collection notice for the same treatment in 2020. During the previous collection notice the provider, *************************, BarlowMD, *****************************************************************************, ** determined there was an error on the end of the anesthesiology provider, American Anesthesiology of Virginia PC, ********************************************************* ** ***** and worked with them to resolve the issue using the payment record provided. It seems very suspect that they are now attempting to collect again on the debt from 2019 as most individuals would have a difficult time finding the record of payment 4 years later. This really feels like fraud and they are just praying on people who don't have access to payment records 4 years past. The collection company used this time is MBA LAW in *******, ***** reachable at **********************. The prior company used was *********** **** in ************** **. I'm not really sure who is running the scam here, the anesthesiologist, the doctors office or the collection agencies but I'd really like to not be asked every 4 years to repay something I have paid.Business Response

Fluctuating due date for healthcare payment plan. Was told in June 2023 that due date was 11th of every month. Since then due date has been moved up. Was told it was every 30 days but statements say otherwise. First statement has a due date of 6/11/23, followed by 7/9/2023, 8/6/2023 and now 9/3/2023. I also am not made aware of my new due date until the new statement is in the mail. I believe this is purposeful to discourage payment plans, incur late fees or reasons to send to collections. I have no choice in using a different company when going to this hospital.Business Response
