I was given an estimate of $796 for dental work. The appointment was scheduled about a week out to allow the dental office to obtain a preauthorization from my insurance, and I was told if the amount would be more than $796 I would be notified. I was never told it would be more than $796, and so I had the dental work performed on 10-3-2019, and paid the $796 the same day. I was however later billed an additional $604. I immediately called about this on several different days and either there was nobody in the office who could help out, or I was told someone would call me back to explain, but I was never given an explanation. I then paid the additional $604 to avoid this amount going to collections, and was assured by the dental office that someone would look into it and let me know. I never heard back, so I called again on 9-24-2021, only to be told it appears the dental office never filed a preauthorization. On 9-29-2021 I was called and told it was too late for a refund.Business response

We have looked over the patients account. We have one year from date of service to file claims to get them paid. The patient contacted us in 2021 for a claim that was in 2019. We informed the patient at that time that she would need to contact her insurance company as there was not anything we could do at this point since it was past the timely filing limit. We file claims as a courtesy to the patient as we are not in network with the patient’s insurance. The patient has not been back to our office since 2019 for any follow ups for her to address any of the issues in person. Ultimately it’s her insurance and her responsibility to keep up with it. However, Dr. Semtner will return her 604.00 that she paid that she feels like is not her responsibility and write it off. I will have that mailed WITH IN 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS from today.
