    Pattern of Complaint:

On January 26, 2017, BBB recognized a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding service, customer service, billing, and refund issues. Complaints allege that consumers purchased a game, however it would not load, or when it did load it would not run properly.

Consumers allege when requesting a refund due to the game not running properly, they are denied a refund based on the company’s policy of the game showing that it was played over two hours. Consumers allege they did not play the game for two hours and it’s logging the time it took for the game to load, not playing time.

Consumers allege they were banned from their account for no reason. They were provided a canned response, but no detailed information why they were banned.

Consumers allege their accounts were hacked, and items in their account were stolen.

Consumers allege they received unauthorized charges for games they did not purchase.

Consumers allege when purchasing a gift card, the PIN number from the card is illegible for the gift card to be used.

Consumers allege they were promised a refund from the company, but they did not receive a refund.

Consumers allege they were double charged when purchasing a game.

Consumers allege they are scammed when trading weapons with other gamers.

Consumers further allege they purchased a game based on the features advertised, however when playing the game they found the features were not as advertised.

Consumers further allege when receiving a response from the company concerning their issues, they were given general responses or the company was unresponsive altogether.

BBB reached out to the company in an effort to address the underlying cause(s) of its pattern of complaints.

As of today, Valve Corporation has not responded to BBB.

On July 12, I added $49.99 of funds to my Steam wallet via PayPal. I was able to use the funds to purchase merchandise in the game, The First Descendants. On July 13, I added $49.99 to my Steam wallet via PayPal again to try and make another purchase in the same game. This time, due to something within Steam's game interface the purchase did not go through. Due to lack of notification, I continued to click on the product to try to make the purchase numerous times. Nothing happened and my funds still show on the Steam wallet. I sent a help ticket to Steam that I was trying to make a purchase. 2 hrs later they responded stating that they made a fix and I can purchase now. During this time, I was not monitoring the ticket response and continued playing my game like normal and suddenly I get booted off the game and recieved a notice from Steam that they've flagged my account for fraudulent activity. I sent them a ticket about the issue and have not heard back from them. Today, I check my Steam account and no updates on my ticket, but then my purchase history shows multiple failed payments to the game. My funds are showing in the wallet so I have sufficient funds. Steam has my money but I can't use it and to top that off, I can't even play the game because they have restricted my access. My first purchase was made for that specific game. If I can't play that game on Steam, then my purchase is unusable at this point. Steam still has $49.99 remaining in my Steam wallet. I want a resolution where Steam lifts my restriction for the specific game or give me back my full amount $99.98 spent.

A few days ago I tried to play the Game Civilization VI, but there site said that I had to agree to their new terms and conditions to be able to play. I should not have to agree new terms in order to continue play a game that I had already purchased years before.

My Call of Duty account was hacked on the 4th of last month, the ********** support recovered the account and removed the account but the cheater/hacker had already used cheats online with my account therefore getting my a steam/vac ban so that I can never play any call of duty on my only steam account forever. I have tried talking to both steam and ********** support and while ********** was quite helpful the steam support would do nothing but send me a copy paste response and say there is absolutely nothing they can do to help. I would like to have the FALSE ban removed from my account so that I can play a game that I payed for and also I can VERIFY any and all of these claims in numerous ways if needed not to mention steam could verify themselves through **********.

Steam has refused to refund me on multiple occasions; I am getting sick of them using the 2 hour play time excuse when they are not taking into account setting the game up, fixing it, trying to get it to load etc, so now they just will not refund me after multiple attempts. I do not use the product and I have requested to have it removed many of times.

On Sunday, June 30th, I ordered a Steam Deck 64 GB from Valve/Steam. The order was confirmed and it was scheduled to be shipped to my home in **********, ** with *** confirmation number 1Z8025V00397735279. On Monday July 7th, I received a notification that my Steam Deck had been delivered. No package had been delivered to my home. I called *** who confirm that the package was actually delivered to an incorrect location and advised that I needed to contact the Seller of the product who would have to file a claim with them. I contacted Valve via their portal who advised that there is nothing that they can do, that they won't be sending a replacement or offering me a refund. It is not my fault that the product was not delivered to me. I demand either a replacement Steam deck or a refund. It is not my fault that *** delivered to the incorrect location and I should not be out the money I paid for an item that I did not receive through no fault of my own.

I am a former VP and been in High Tech for 30 years of my career.I am unable to login to my Steam Account on my new laptop. I have attempted *every* online avenue that Steam / Valve Corp offers for technical support. **They will tell you they have technical support people** BUT, they are not accessible if you cannot login to your account. In 2024 this is one of the simplest most basic things companies must deal with for their user base but this one does not.I want someone to contact me by calling my mobile phone and resolving this issue. My number is *************. I have spent money with this company and I cannot access the products I have purchased due to this problem.I have exhausted every form of potential help for this including installing the Steam mobile app on my phone - which I do not want. It is clear that their account has my username associated with my mobile number and my email address as I've seen when going thru their help screens. It is obscene that Valve Corp does not provide support for their customers for something this simple and basic. This company deserves to be fined for this egrigious policy failure.

I purchased a game from Steam called ************************ Dynasty'.The game is not good and nothing like I thought it would be.I stopped playing it well ahead of the 2 hour refund policy that steam enacts. However, even though I closed the game, the game itself never closed. In fact, it says 'stopping' but never stops. I wasn't aware of this until I saw it said I had played the game for '27' hours.Mind you, I purchased this game less than 30 hours before hand.I told this to Steam in my request for my refund. They sent an auto-replay saying I played the game for 27 hours. So, no one even reviewed my request and complaint about this game. Nor did they review my play time to see where I was playing other games on the same device during the time when this game was supposed to had stopped.I send another message to Steam requesting my refund again and stating obvious facts that prove my case.Steam owes me $10.81 for this purchase.Steam does not allow you to call them and speak to a representative.Steam does not have a away to reach a live person in chat support. So, I am filing this complaint first before I file a complaint with my bank in order to resolve this issue.
