    Pattern of Complaint:

    On January 26, 2017, BBB recognized a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding service, customer service, billing, and refund issues. Complaints allege that consumers purchased a game, however it would not load, or when it did load it would not run properly.

    Consumers allege when requesting a refund due to the game not running properly, they are denied a refund based on the company’s policy of the game showing that it was played over two hours. Consumers allege they did not play the game for two hours and it’s logging the time it took for the game to load, not playing time.

    Consumers allege they were banned from their account for no reason. They were provided a canned response, but no detailed information why they were banned.

    Consumers allege their accounts were hacked, and items in their account were stolen.

    Consumers allege they received unauthorized charges for games they did not purchase.

    Consumers allege when purchasing a gift card, the PIN number from the card is illegible for the gift card to be used.

    Consumers allege they were promised a refund from the company, but they did not receive a refund.

    Consumers allege they were double charged when purchasing a game.

    Consumers allege they are scammed when trading weapons with other gamers.

    Consumers further allege they purchased a game based on the features advertised, however when playing the game they found the features were not as advertised.

    Consumers further allege when receiving a response from the company concerning their issues, they were given general responses or the company was unresponsive altogether.

     

    BBB reached out to the company in an effort to address the underlying cause(s) of its pattern of complaints.

      I thought a charge was fraud i reported it a week or so later found it wasnt had my credit card reverse steam under valve locked my account refusing to unlock because they dont see the charge back i checked with my bank multiple times it was sent valve wont do anything i gave a option remove the items in question ill take the loss unlock the account they refused and refused and refused at no loss to valve just my loss now im done i want them to refund all purchases and close my account this is just beyond pathetic

Despite my repeated efforts to resolve this issue, my account remains blocked, severely impacting my access to games and funds I have invested in over time.To provide some context, I created my Steam account while living overseas. Since then, I have returned to my home country. Unfortunately, this change in location seems to have triggered a suspicion of fraudulent activity, leading to the unjust suspension of my account.I assure you that all the information associated with my account is legitimate and accurate. I have spent a considerable amount of money on this account, purchasing numerous games and adding funds.       Steam applied a "Joker Troll Badge" to my profile for absolutely no reason but to cause me distress and refuses to take action to remove it. I have been issuing these troll badges back indiscriminately as a show that I will do so so long as they continue to harass me with their Joker Troll Badge. They can tell me they can't do anything all they want and punish me for asking them to: "Our support staff has indicated that you've recently submitted repeated requests for issues we've already resolved to the best of our ability.You'll need to wait until July 6, 2024 @ 11:37am to submit further help requests."But there is no other support option I am able to contact to resolve this other than this support option and they flat out lied about resolving the issues when in fact they took no action. I will continue to send them complaints until this is resolved.

      I'd like to add to this complaint that due to having to take multiple trips to the *** I contracted COVID-19, I was nowhere else significant in the last week.

      My son had over $50 in STEAM gift cards. He loaded them on his STEAM account. Within days someone used his account to buy an item for $50 that is worth pennies. It was someone taking over his account. ********************** refuses to reimburse him. They are also just impossible to contact or deal with. They dont even react to the actual question. So my son had $50 stolen from him in their marketplace and they refuse to return his money.

      I purchased "Populous: The Beginning" on June 11, 2024. On 6/19/2024 all save data was lost, and all game progress was lost. When looking at community support on Steam, this is an extremely common issue and people cannot play the game because the save data gets lost and people have to start over again and again. This is a software issue between Steam and EA games. Steam will not allow me to access customer support for this game. They also will not allow me to receive a refund since I have played the game more than two hours. This issue did not occur until after more than two hours of play. How could I predict this issue would come up and be a common problem with the game's software. Again, Steam will not address this issue, and neither will EA games.       I am writing to seek assistance in obtaining a refund from Steam for a game I purchased that has led to an unjust ban, preventing me from accessing the content I paid for. Despite my efforts to resolve the issue directly with ********** and Steam, I have been unsuccessful in receiving a satisfactory response.**Details of the transaction and dispute are as follows:**- **Date of the transaction:** May 28, 2024 - **Amount paid:** $74.36 - **Business commitment:** Provide access to the game and related services - **Nature of the dispute:** I was permanently banned by ********** for alleged data manipulation after changing my email address and adding MFA (multi-factor authentication), which I did not do. This ban has rendered the game unusable.- **Resolution attempts:** I have tried to contact Steam support multiple times. However, Steam has refused to issue a refund, citing their policy of no refunds after 2 hours of gameplay. I requested an exception since the game has been rendered useless by **********'s actions, but my request was denied.I have been unable to speak or chat with anyone to resolve this issue, and the ban appeal page still states that I am permanently banned. All I did was change my email address and add MFA, which triggered the ban.       Steam support has refused to let me back into my account on several occassions however this complaint is only regarding one instance I'm currently trying to solve.I broke my phone and couldn't pay the bill so essentially I lost my two factor "steam guard" and can't access my ****************************** support said they would attempt to help if I gave them a CD KEY I've used in the past. I did this and now they are ignoring me via support ticket #HT-KCJD-PQVN-9VFV.Just this instance alone I lost over 300 dollars worth of software and can't access any of it. The last time they did this to me I lost well over 1000 dollars worth of games.

      I paid $99.99 for Starfield on September 1st 2023. The game does not run correctly on my computer and I have tried everything to get it to work. I am seeking a refund from the Valve Corporation for the game. I have went through all the steps of trying to get a refund from them, and they will not give me one as I have hours in the game from trying to test to see if I resolved the issue.

      I recently purchased a game for a council known as a steam deck. The website advertises its playable, but it barely is. I tried playing it for two weeks until I had enough and I uninstalled it and Im gonna return the system and I would like a refund on the game. They told me they cannot issue a refund because I played It. Obviously, I was trying to get it to work and after the two weeks, I couldnt take it anymore. I would just like a refund for the item I purchased because its unplayable on the system as advertised. Thank you
