The Hartford more than doubled my rate claiming that the car I drive is prone to theft. Some models of Kia are high risk, mone is not one of those! I found insurnace that was hundreds of dollars cheaper with better coverage and canceled my Hartford policy. They continued to bill me. When I called to see why and explained that the policy had been canceled they said, "oh I guess your agent forgot to file the cancellation." Ended up having to pay them or fight it out in court. The Hartford is a crooked company.Review from Davney M

Last summer my daughter lost her job and was planning to move back home. so I called Hartford to get a quote to add her to our policy in case she had to return home. In the middle of the conversation the rep phone hung up. I never confirmed to add her to the policy since she still had time to find another job. Next thing you know they added an addition $229 to my bill stating she was a member of my household. First of all my daughter hasn’t lived with us for 2 yrs and why would I call asking for a quote thinking she MAY be moving back after losing her job! Turns out she ended up moving in w her boyfriend and never came back home but yet they won’t remove her from our account! They wanted us to jump through all those hoops so we just canceled. End up with a better insurance and easier to communicate with. Don’t use Hartford they are scammers!!!!Review from J.L. M

What out! You may be cancelled without notification! Everything was coming through email EXCEPT the most important item telling me they were cancelling my fully pre-paid insurance! Apparently it was sent in the middle of December but they don't care. I explained how I just opened the emails a few days before and she kept going on that the emails had been opened. (Great at talking but not listening),she just wanted a way to reiterated their policy. That's fine but I'm warning everyone to be careful and check the app constantly because they'll drop you like a bad habit! The way I was, Nothing like dropping an elderly disabled person who contacts them as soon as I get a partial refund.Review from Annette O

I am a senior , so went on line to check out Home and Auto insurance thru The Hartford. The website itself is a joke. Their pop up their 800 number on every page. Then after you get part way thru they CLAIM a system glitch and their 800 number pops up again. I trying online several times and got the same thing. SO I called , auto was already in the system, trying to add my HOME. She pulls up my claims record with my address, and states I had a small claim in 2022 for storm damage. Then in her next breath, sorry we cant insurance you because there is fire protecting service close enough to your address. WHAT? there a hydrant across the road. As there is a humane society right across the road. College is 1 mile on same road. Sheriff headquarters next to college. brand new fire station right there as well. so having a fire dept 1 mile away is not close enough, BS it is cause of a 1900$ claim in 2022. This company is NOT HONEST. If fact far from it. I cant believe AARP supports them. Oh but of course they would like to insurance my truck..LOL yeah NO TYReview from Brandy R

This is the worst company because of the True lane system. Raised my rates because "I don't drive enough." I'm a disabled senior. I sometimes don't leave my house for a month. You would think you would be smart enough to realize, no driving equals no accidents. But nope, I don't drive enough. I can only shake my head at your stupid, asernie mentality. And camel my auto and home policy. True lane cost you an 9000.00 a year customer.Review from Linda M.

******** Review/Complaint for The Hartford** I am compelled to share my negative experience with The Hartford regarding their disability insurance coverage for transit workers. As a union member, I relied on The Hartford for support when I became disabled due to my job. However, since our union's switch to MetLife on January 1, 2024, The Hartford has failed to act in good faith. Despite their slogan, "Trust The Hartford," I have seen firsthand how they are not living up to this promise. Several employees, including myself, have faced challenges as The Hartford seems intent on discontinuing disability payments to eligible WMATA employees. This has been incredibly distressing, especially when we are already dealing with significant health issues. Furthermore, I want to highlight that the documents from my doctors were used by WMATA’s medical department to disqualify me from my position. My medical condition has not changed, and the struggles I face remain the same. It is disheartening to see a company fail to honor its commitments, leaving vulnerable employees without the support they desperately need. I urge The Hartford to take responsibility and uphold their obligations to the union members who have trusted them during some of the toughest times in our lives. It’s time for them to demonstrate the integrity and reliability they claim to represent.Review from Ashley M

These people are criminals. I have been jerked around for almost 7 months after the unplanned, emergency C-Section birth of my son. I have had 3 doctors sign the requested forms to verify I was told not to return to work for 13 weeks due to preeclampsia. The Hartford continues to send the same forms back to the doctors and ask them to fill them out. I have documentation of all the times my doctors have complied with their requests and The Hartford refused to cover my leave of absence and closed my case. I will be taking them to small claims court. DO NOT USE THIS INSURER.Review from Tenille W

This Company is ridiculous, Claudine G**** is/was my Claim Handler and dealing with The Hartford has been complete HELL. Since the beginning Claudine G**** has always dropped the ball from late workers comp payments to not handling phone calls correctly. I would call for basic info not anything legal and she would deny deny deny talking to me, This last incident took the cake i was hurt at work back in 2023 and i just had my impairment rating Dec 13th 2024 on Dec 11th i called and emailed Claudine G**** to update Direct Deposit due to my old account they had on file being closed. Claudine G**** sent me the form email i filled is out on there portal got confirmation and guess what She never updated the info. FAST FORWARD to how i found out i called to make sure and they told me it was not, on there website its supposed to take 2-3 days to update and it was not updated. To make matters worse Claudine G**** and Elizabeth C**** denied me and would not allow me to change my personal direct deposit info which is completely against my rites, I do not have to have an attorney do this i am very much allowed to do this on my own, i got hung up on by Elizabeth C***** So now i could of had a payment i really needed especially this time of year but instead it will be going to a closed account and i have to wait longer because Claudine G**** will not return untill January 2nd and she stated on her voicemail that will not be monitored. This company has no knowledge of legal and personal rites and will be pressing this issue they have completely screwed things up time after time!!!!!! Claudine G**** and Elizabeth C**** have violated my personal rites and i am very upset!!!!The Hartford cannot legally refuse to update your direct deposit information simply because you have an attorney; this would be considered discriminatory and is not a valid reason to deny a standard request to change your banking details. Why this is not allowed: No legal basis:There is no law that permitsReview from Mary P

If you are an AARP member, PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE THIS INSURANCE! I trusted the AARP endorsement without checking with the BBB and as I a result did not know of this HORRIBLE company. I have had nothing but bad service with them with my automobile insurance even though I pay 6 months in advance. First time is when they convinced me to go paperless (that was a mistake). I never got an email about renewal. I called 3 months ago to find out why my app wasn’t working and they said I didn’t have any insurance with them. After talking to a different person in the company, I found out they only recorded half my email address. Six hours later, I had to get approval for reinstatement even though they had the correct email address on app. They wanted to keep my bank information in system so they can automatically bill me but I said NO as I do not trust their security. I changed my billing preference to post office mail only. Today I found out my 6 mo payment was not cashed until 12/9/24 even though my bank sent them a check on 11/18/24. Now I do not have insurance since it was due 12/1/24. No email or mail notice was sent to me and now I have to wait until their manager call me to discuss the issue. I spoke to my bank and have a letter stating the 11/18/24 payment. I called AARP to file a complaint about endorsing their company and will share this story online. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!Review from Lisa C

If you as an employer value your employees insurance needs, example: maternity,PFL, disability....do not choose the Hartford. If you call or chat about days off, nothing is the same, they open new claims instead of putting data on existing. I've been with same employer ,been through 2 maternity leaves and a PFL and have to jump through hoops to get them to acknowledge papers faxed to them, report days requested, and the communication between me and communication between chat and analysis is terrible.... Just a big headache. One person says one thing, another will tell you something different. Noone ever calls you back. Don't choose the Hartford for your employees.
