I had spoken to Americor about helping me with consolidating my bills on February 20, 2023. I wanted to start consolidating since we have filed for bankruptcy in the past. I didn't want to file again so I went ahead into their deal of only a payment of $238.74 a month which was taken out on February 25, 2023 out of my bank account. On the next day, I was blind sided by my wife's place of employment is closing down and she was transferring further away from where we live now. Our car was giving us a problem at that time & needed someone to look at it since the engine light came on. I had call Americor if I could have my money back in order to fix the car, get it inspected & registered before getting a ticket. I have requested 4 to 6 times to put the money back into our account, why do I need to speak with them for? Besides when I called them twice, no one would pick up but If they have fees to take out of that $238.74 then take out what they need & let me have the rest so I can go on doing what I have to do, I don't want to speak to anyone for getting my own money back, that is ridiculous! Besides, the consolidation isn't what it seems to be anyway. I just want our refund back. Take whatever fees they want & let me have the rest. I'm being very fair.Business Response

This is about a prior complaint I sent. BBB sent my complaint to Americor and they sent back the answer they would be contacting me on the 8th of March. No one called me so I called them and the lady said the same as before, that their system says they cannot reduce the monthly payment back to the original payment. Although when I boosted the monthly payments no one told me it was irreversible or I would not have done it. I could have just sent extra funds on a monthly basis when I was able. So this letter is just to let you know they have treated me with total disrespect and with no concern to my present situation. Thank you, ***************************Business Response

As a follow-up to the original response to **************, please note that she currently has five accounts that are currently in term settlement with a fixed monthly payment owed on each account. On March 8, 2023 she called Americor to discuss a lowering of her payment by $150.00. As explained to her on the call, the payment could not be lowered at this time due to the fact that such would likely result in the default of one or more settlement agreements, and jeopardize her ability to complete the program. To date, all the customers accounts have been settled or are in term settlements less than a year into the program. It is advised that the customer continue with the agreed monthly deposits in order to keep on track with the completion of the program.
We hope this answers any questions or concerns.Initial Complaint

I started this horrible journey not being told the whole truth, April 2022. I started with paying off 7 credit cards, one has been paid and theres one to be paid off on February 26 2023. The beginning payment was 283.$ a month. Because Im living at my daughters when I received a raise on my disability I updated the monthly payment to 400$. Then after 2 years my phone was paid for and I got free phone service from Qlink for being disabled. So I put that toward the monthly payment making it 450$. My situation at my daughters has become hostile. Im being verbally and emotionally abused. I have a friend in my hometown that can help me to get my own place. He found a mobile home and piece of property for me to move to, and Ill have to pay him back monthly. So I called Americor and asked to have my payment reduced back to 300.$ a month beginning in May so I will be able to get out of this situation. The customer service representative told me thats not possible. Im not understanding why they wont reduce my payments since there will be 2 less bills beginning in March and I started out at 283.$ She was rude and said it doesnt matter who I speak to we arent able to reduce your monthly payment. My only option here is to close my checking account because I have to get out of here. Ive begun taking antidepressants and anxiety medication the last 6 months. I refuse to live this way any longer since I dont have to. I need help with this please.Business Response

This time last year I was summoned to court for an unpaid debt. Americorp does not legally help you with this. I went on my own. I kept them informed. I signed a paper saying they would get to work on my debt. November 14, 2022 I got a letter from the creditor that it has been a year and no payments have been made. Americorp shows it as advanced negotiations. I have not heard anything from Americorp about their plan on repayment. I do not want to have to go back to court and tell the judge that Americorp said they would take care of this and they havent. Do you think a judge would care? I admit to initiating this relationship with Americorp with the understanding that they would support me the whole way. I hear crickets from them. When I have spoken to someone, they ask for more money. If I had the money do you really think I would be in this situation with them now? They collect some hefty fees from me. The fee scale was not explained fully. But I know there was no way anyone would sign with them if they knew the truth. There is no reason why they cannot pay this so I dont have to go back to court. I know its my debt and I owe it. They have collected more than enough fees. I know I am harping on the collected fees but they REALLY have collected a LOT more than I even owed.Customer Answer

We have investigated ******************** claims and reviewed her internal file. The customer enrolled and executed a debt resolution agreement with our company on June 4th, 2019. The Debt Consultant thoroughly reviewed the agreement with customer over the telephone, including the fact that Americor only earns its fees at the time of settlement of each account (25%), the total length of the program (51 months), and specifically the possibility of receiving a summons during the negotiation process. She acknowledged that she understood these factors.
Ultimately, a total of 14 debts were enrolled in the program. Currently, 12 accounts have been settled for a 59% aggregate settlement amount. Regarding the account that she is requesting to be settled/paid, Americor has been in recent negotiations with the judgment creditor in order to settle the account that the customer has concerns with, and a term settlement has been offered by the creditor.
We reached out to the customer on December 13, 2022 and are waiting for a response from her to discuss options to meet the settlement terms presented.
We hope this clears up any questions or concerns. <no attachments>

We signed up for a debt program they ran out credit into the ground. They advised us to stop paying or credit cards. We paid them ****** each month. Before we started the program they advised we could walk away anytime and keep the money in our dedicated account. We have progressively gotten worse we were unable to make the payments. We called to cancel and they said they were going to keep the money in our dedicated account. We were told before we signed up that the money would be ours to keep because it was our money.Business Response

Americor has investigated Mr. ********** claims and reviewed his internal file. The customer enrolled in our debt resolution program and executed our agreement on April 22, 2022.
Regarding the customers cancellation and refund concerns, he was never told that if he cancels he will keep the money in [his] dedicated account. In fact, ********************** was informed of when Americor Funding earns its fees (i.e. when an enrolled debt is settled, approved by the customer and the first payment is made) and replied affirmatively to understanding such. Moreover, the borrowers right to cancel is clearly outlined in Section 6A of his agreement which states in part, You may withdraw from this debt resolution program at any time, without any penalty or other obligation, by providing AF with written notice, which may be electronic. Section 6A (ii) further states, You will receive all funds in your Settlement Account, other than those that have been earned by AF as of the date of termination, within five (5) business days of our receipt of your written Termination request. Our right to collect fees that are earned but remain unpaid, in whole or in part, will survive any Termination of this Agreement. (Emphasis Added). .
At the time of Mr. ********** cancellation request, $1,680.15 in Americors service fees were outstanding for the 4 settled debts, and $1,118.86 remained in the customers dedicated savings account. Therefore, in accordance with the language of the agreement above, the outstanding fees were duly earned by Americor and could be collected from any remaining funds in the customers savings account at the time of the customers cancellation. As a result, no refund was due to ***********************
We hope this clears up any questions and concerns.

Yes I agree to do business with Americor. I agreed to specific dates that they could withdraw money from my account. Instead they withdrew money from my account before the due dates my bank paid it however they completely messed up my banking. I called them on a Monday and I talked to supervisor who assured me they would refund the money but it would have to post first and that she would call me on Friday she did not but I did call on Friday and that person could not even find notes from the first person. And I waited half the day and I called back and that person couldn't find the notes from my earlier conversation. I was assured a refund as soon as it posted to their account. They have failed to do so and I have told him a couple times they could not do it I want to cancel my business with them. I feel like we're in a stalemate I tried to call them a couple times today I suppose in the middle of talking to somebody and got cut off nobody returned my call I've left several messages from my advocate and have not received any calls back from him either. If I cannot resolve this I don't want to do business with them. I WANT my refund of 660 and change.Business Response

Americor has investigated Ms. ****** claims and reviewed her internal file. It appears that her initial program deposit was erroneously scheduled for 11/14/22 instead of 11/20/22.. All subsequent deposits were correctly scheduled on the 3rd and 20th of each month. On 11/21/22, the day prior to the filing of her complaint, several calls were made back and forth between ************** regarding the return of the early withdrawal, but contact was not made. Internal notes to her file indicate that a refund was initiated that same day.
On 11/23/22, a customer service representative from ********************** was able to reach **************, at which time ************** confirmed that the refund had been processed into her account that same day. A manager also attempted to contact her later that day as a follow up to ensure that all of her concerns were addressed.
Americor strives to provide excellent customer service. If there are any further questions or concerns that she may have, she is invited to call our customer service department at ************ between the hours of 7AM and 6PM PST. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.Customer Answer

I checked on this company, read reviews and wanted to get out of some debt that was due to my own spending needs and helping relative. I talked to this company and was guaranteed credit improvements. To start the process they told me to no longer make payments, send statements and they would negotiate settlement amount . Well in the midst of their process that put late payments with my creditors that now I cannot get removed. If I would have known that was the result I would have kept paying or called Americor to see how to not have tvis happen. I have tried disputing twice per their instruction and with their provided documents to only learn that it does not help. I even had a representative from Americor tell me my soft pull credit was right! Why am I paying them more money to settle these accounts if there is no benefit. I want credit report fixed, I am beyond aggravated to pay my monthly payment to only have a disgusting low credit score. Now part of my score is due to my balances on current stuff I am working to fix but late payments on 9, 9 accounts is due to them. Can anything be done to fix credit or honestly not pay some payments as I could fix something else on report if monthly payment was not going to them?? Such a misleading resolution to my situation. I do have documents I can offer and emails to back up convos!Business Response

The customer enrolled and executed a debt resolution agreement with our company on April 30. 2018. This agreement states in Section B(v) Effects of Participation in a Debt Resolution Program that ...Failing to make your minimum monthly payments to your Creditors (a) will likely adversely affect your creditworthiness, (b) may result in unpaid, late, uncollected or charged-off entries on your credit report(s)... Before enrolling, the customer would have been made aware that while these missed payments can negatively impact her credit score temporarily, it should begin to improve as accounts were settled and paid. However, credit score is based on a variety of factors and can be affected by things outside of the debts enrolled in our program, which prohibits our company from being able to guarantee any improvement. It is important to note that the customers program was successfully completed, with all 8 enrolled accounts settled within 18 months of enrollment, resulting in nearly $10,000 in savings on the original debt amount. We hope this clears up any questions and concerns.Initial Complaint

Within the calendar year of 2022, having worked hard to keep my business thriving during the pandemic, I had incurred too many personal loans with high interest and was looking for assistance in either paying them off or consolidating them. I got an offer in the mail so I made a phone call and for some reason ended up speaking to a legal department that then advised me that I should not pay off my debts but instead allow them to fall behind and create a position to negotiate from. Honestly I thought it was a terrible idea but I went ahead and signed up I think I paid 1 or 2 months and then I decided to just cancel it.Well now having canceled it I still receive phone calls and "offers" every week, in spite of having asked several times to be removed from their call list. I.mema 5 or 6 times at least. Bad company. Bad business model. Just steer clear.Business Response

The customer was a prospective co-applicant with his wife. The Culbertsons placed a call to Americor on 12/29/2021 regarding a mailer they received. They discussed their financial situation with one of our Client Advocates and also had a discussion regarding our debt settlement program. As a follow-up, there were several e-mail exchanges between the Culbertsons and Americor regarding their inquiries as to the specifics of the program through January 2022. Contrary to Mr. *********** assertion, neither of the Culbertsons ultimately enrolled in the program.
Regarding the telephone calls they have alleged to be recently receiving from Americor that are no longer wanted, we have brought this matter to the attention of the appropriate internal departments to ensure that the customers no longer receive such calls.
In addition, it should be noted that Americor has guided thousands of consumers through the path to financial freedom. If the customers would like to re-explore their options, we would welcome an opportunity to discuss.
