On October 24, 2023, I established care with my new primary care physician. His office billed it under preventative. When my insurance provided an EOB, they said that I had ***ed out on preventative services, so the provider needed to run the claim through again as a regular claim. After working with a 3rd party advocate on my behalf for months, I was just informed that Cedars Sinai billing refuses to send the claim back through to my insurance. This is illegal. I had already met my out of pocket *** for last year at that time. They think by billing me directly, they will get more money than my insurance will pay them. That is illegal and unethical.Initial Complaint

I came in after a car accident to get checked up on and waited 4+ hours. No one came to check on my condition at all and left me waiting without seeing a doctor or a nurse the whole time.Initial Complaint

Representatives from accounting department of the hospital offered me a 10% discount on my entire hospital bill. I attempted to pay my bill, but the accounting department was nowhere to be found. Representatives from the accounting department of the hospital later orally represented that my patient responsibility was $0. She confirmed this fact expressly on 4 separate occasions. She stated that my deductible was met and my out of pocket maximum was met. She assured me that there was no bill. Several weeks later, I received a bill for over $1,000. The 10% discount promised to be applied on my entire bill was not applied. Only later did the hospital decide to apply a 10% discount on the patient responsibility. I have asked for itemized statements of the hospital bill and the hospital bill for the birth of my first born so that I can compare the charges, as I believe the charges are incredibly excessive, but to date, I have yet to receive these items statements.Business Response

For several months now, Cedars-Sinai has been sending me marketing mail on a regular basis to my residence address. I ask that my name and residence address be completely removed from this companys mail marketing list since I never opted in to receive marketing mail from Cedars-Sinai at any time. Following a traumatic thigh injury on 10/11/23, rendering me immobile, the *** @ Cedars Sinai Medical Group made errors in orders for services according to benefits of my UHC policy. An attempt to correct the obvious errors was vehemently denial by the Physician, unwilling to make corrections. Receipt of a Certified letter from *** colleague threatening me charging me with non compliance to Assisted Home Health who received incorrect orders and was unwilling and unqualified to perform proper & urgent services. Despite several requests to CSMG and with UHC's direction, CSMG failed to engage proper ****************** Health Aide services at my home, I did so requesting reimbursement Following request according to plan benefits, *Acupuncture, *Med. Equipment and Home Health Aide, initially denied* was paid on 2/13/23. Subsequently. CSMG requested additional information re: Home Health Aide. Claim resubmitted in timely manner which now appears to be in a three way controversy between CSMG, UHC and myself with CSMG professing inaccurate statements against UHC and myself regarding receipt of documents and other assertions that defy credibility. CSMG fails to accept responsibility for their errors. All three claims were documented in the same clearly articulated manner on the same date according to the same policy benefits conditions. The $490. claim for Home Health Aide to provide 'life necessity services' of food (transporting of prepared food from kitchen to bedroom and toileting assistance) to a bed bound patient remains unpaid and immersed in extensive unnecessary controversy.. Recently, CSMG fails to honor preset phone conference dates from 9/25 until 10/6/23. This appears emblematic of their failure to correct their errors, act in a timely manner and failure to respect accuracy and anticipated support of the insured patient.Business Response

I am a RN who had brain surgery at Cedars-Sinai at the end of January 2023 and have been out of work because of continued symptoms. I have *********************** Now, which I have had since 2020, through my previous employer. I have been paying $685+ a month in COBRA payments to keep my plan that has an annual $1,000 deductible and a $3,000 out-of-pocket out-of-pocket ***imum. I had a *** Brain at Cedars-Sinai on 12/01/22. I spoke with a rep and was told that my insurance would be called for pre-auth. Never was it mentioned that I would be responsible for any type of payment. I had already met my $3,000 *** for 2022. When I received my EOB, it stated that the claim was denied because of reason code: 09 (Pre-Cert Not Obtained) and showed that I am not responsible for a deductible, copay, or coinsurance. I started receiving a non-detailed bill from Cedars for $3,675.28. I called Health Now and was informed that the *** was denied because Cedars failed to submit a needed clinical document; there had been approx. 5 calls to Cedars **** ******** requesting it, but she failed to comply. I was instructed to contact Cedars and request that the document be submitted, which I did. I contacted them on ****, ****, and **** and did not receive a response back until ****. When I received a response, it was stated that they received a EOB from Anthem on 04/06 which showed my responsibility of a $1,000 deductible and $2,675.28 coinsurance. I have never had to pay a coinsurance for any other visits/procedures. When I called HN again and asked them about the deductible and coinsurance, I was told that info was false. On 7/22 a Cedars rep stated that she was told by HN that the claim was denied due to pre-existing conditions. I have had my plan since 2020, and have never had a claim denied for this reason. On *****, I received a notice which states I have 30 days to pay the bill or my account will be turned over to collections. I refuse to pay a bill that Im not responsible for.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:For the past few weeks, the representatives from the Cedars-Sinai ***************** Services Department, have continued to try to manipulate me, in an attempt to extort money from me, for a bill that I clearly am not responsible for.
I received an email from the BBB stating that representatives from Cedars-Sinai failed to respond to requests to attempt to resolve the issue, and therefore, my case was to be marked as closed.
After receiving this email, I sent a multi-page complaint to the Cedars-Sinai grievances department, detailing all of the inaccuracies and contradictory statements that were provided to me by Cedars billing representatives, in order to mislead me and pressure me into paying the bill for date of service 12-01-2022.
On the same day that I received a voicemail from **************, I was also contacted by a representative from the ***************** who informed me that she is going to conduct an investigation as to why the bill was not paid out by my insurance.
I called ************** after I spoke with the **************** rep., and was sent to a voicemail recording. I left a voicemail message, explaining that this billing issue is now in the hands of the ****************. I informed ************** that he could contact me if necessary, but at this point, I am going to step back and let the **************** representatives, and the other representatives investigating this issue in my behalf, take over and do their jobs. I have not receive another phone call from **************.
The fact that I have been stuck in the middle of a billing dispute for months, for a bill that is not my responsibility, without any real assistance, is ridiculous. The way that I have been treated by the Cedars-Sinai billing associates is deplorable. I should not have been put through all of this, and forced to reach out to other agencies for help.
Hopefully, the representatives looking into this situation will get farther than I have, and much more quickly.
I would like to thank the BBB for their attempt to resolve the issue. I have nothing positive to say about the responses I have received from Cedars-Sinai.
Sincerely,
*****************************Initial Complaint

Following a car accident in February 2021, where I was fully insured, I was treated by Cedars Sinai. Cedars was provided with instructions on how to bill insurance however due to staff turnover and lack of continuity billing was incorrect and required several iterations of submissions. Recently I was advised of an adverse credit report from Cedars billing, and after several months of resolutions with cedars staff and the matter being resolved Im told I have to start again with staff not implementing any of the assured repairs to billing errors. Bills were sent from 3rd party providers not in network, not preauthorised, sent to wrong insurance, and even double billed. Given these issues are now over 2 years old, with over $1 million paid out by insurance already, and billing mix *** been addressed numerous times by different staff, Im seeking permanent resolution and cease and desist of spurious bills.Business Response

Spoke with the patient, he stated he currently has 23 collection accounts stemming from this hospital stay at Cedars, advise in reviewing his Cedars hospital accounts, he currently has no accounts in collections billed by Cedars. He stated the collection company is - ****** *** phone # ************ and he has been working with a manager - *****, (didn't have his last name) to get the claims paid and removed from his credit files. I explained ****** *** company is not a direct affiliate with *****'s billing. He shared he would like to keep the BBB complaint open in an effort to get the collection accounts removed from his credit files. The collection accounts are negatively impacting his credit score. ********'ll attempt to get in contact with the manager ***** at ****** to further inquire about the status if his accounts. Also provided the patient with my direct contact number for any additional billing inquiries he may have. He stated thank you.
