    Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct:
    Federal Trade Commission (FTC) v. JustAnswer LLC et al.
    The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the government’s allegations, which have not yet been proven.

    On January 13, 2026, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a suit against JustAnswer LLC and its CEO Andrew Kurtzig in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (Case No. 3:26-cv-00333).

    According to the complaint, the FTC alleges that JustAnswer represented consumers could “join” and access expert advice for a nominal fee (such as $1 or $5), but then enrolled consumers in a recurring monthly subscription with fees the FTC alleges ranged from $28 to $125. It is also alleged allege JustAnswer charged those fees without obtaining affirmative consent as required by the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA), and that the subscription terms were not clearly and conspicuously disclosed. The FTC’s complaint seeks injunctive relief, monetary relief (including consumer redress), and civil penalties. 

    The matter is currently pending.

    On January 15, 2026, JustAnswer submitted the following response to the complaint.

JustAnswer maintains the right to initiate special incentive pricing, membership, and other programs. These may be limited, at JustAnswer’s sole discretion, to defined and limited Users or non-Users. Any promotional monies or credits placed into Customer accounts by JustAnswer for use towards Site Access Benefits on the Site remain the property of JustAnswer (they never become the property of Customers and never become refundable to the Customer), and unless otherwise stated on the Site or in an email to a Customer, will be usable only for thirty (30) days.
