RE: BBB Complaint ID ********
Dear ************************************,
This communication is in response to your BBB complaint dated February 12, 2024. In the complaint you state that you are a victim of identity theft and indicate a credit inquiry done by Alliant Credit Union on March 27, 2023 was not authorized. You are requesting a correction to your credit report as a desired resolution.
In our research, we found an online application for an Interest Only Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) submitted via Alliants Online Banking on March 21, 2023,under the name ************************* and *******************************, that was denied. Alliant discloses to all applicants that a credit inquiry will take place prior to submitting an application.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires data furnishers, like Alliant, to report complete and accurate information to the national consumer reporting agencies. We are unable to remove the credit bureau inquiry done on March ****** from your credit report because you provided consent with your loan application.
If you still believe that you are a victim of fraud, please call Alliant at **************.
Sincerely,

I requested to opt out of this when it appeared on my credit report under Club and Subscription Activity in 2023. I requested that on 2/16/23 with ID: **********. I was told that my request was completed. However, I see on my **** credit report that I am still listed and sent a second request to them to opt out. I want my information kept private and do not want to participate in this data collection. The second request was made today, 2/6/24 with ID: JM9XA75M8B.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: I never signed up for anything, this appeared on my credit report as described. I opted out in 2023, and requesting to opt out yet again. I want to OPT OUT. It's very simple. I do not want my information being used. So double check those records you have. I will be filing a complaint with the ** Attorney General as well regarding this. When I "opted out" in 2023 I assumed that meant I was opted out. So shame on your organization for continuing this nonsense.Copy of email from recent repeated opt out request (and I did verify my email but have yet to hear back)

Complaint: 21207190
I am rejecting this response because:Dear Alliant Car Loan,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to address a serious concern regarding the recent billing statements I have received. My name is **********************, and my account number is **********
Upon reviewing my statements, I have noticed a significant discrepancy in the charges, specifically the $5,300 for the three months during which I did not have insurance coverage. I became aware of the lapse in my insurance on 01/19/2024, and I have since rectified the situation by securing insurance coverage.
While I understand the importance of maintaining insurance on the financed vehicle, I cannot agree to the proposed payment of $5,300 for the three-month period. I acknowledge my responsibility for the time without insurance and am willing to consider a fair resolution. I propose a payment of $200 for the duration I was without coverage.
However, the current arrangement of $5,990 every two weeks is not feasible for me, and it is not what I agreed to when I initially purchased the car. This unexpected financial burden is causing distress and appears to be an exorbitant demand that I cannot meet.
I want to believe that this situation is a misunderstanding and not an intentional act. Charging $5,300 for three months seems unprecedented and, frankly, raises concerns of potential malpractice.
I am reaching out to express my willingness to resolve this matter amicably. I propose a fair and reasonable solution given the circumstances. I hope we can work together to find a resolution that is mutually beneficial.
Please provide guidance on how we can move forward in resolving this issue promptly. I appreciate your attention to this matter and hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:
Subject: Re: BBB Rebuttal #********
Dear Alliant Credit Union,
Thank you for your prompt response and the information provided regarding the collateral protection insurance (***) on my loan account.
I appreciate the partial refund for the *** in the amount of $3,937 that was credited to my loan. However, I must express that the proposed increased monthly payment of $433.60 to cover the *** charge is beyond my current budget constraints.
As I initially signed up for a monthly payment of $379.23, I am willing to cooperate in resolving the matter. Considering my financial situation, I propose a one-time payment of $200 to cover the three-month lapse in *** coverage. This amount aligns with what I can reasonably afford.
If this arrangement is acceptable, I would appreciate guidance on how to proceed with making the one-time payment. However, if this cannot be accommodated, I may need to explore refinancing options with another credit union that better aligns with my financial circumstances.
Your understanding and cooperation in this matter are highly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me at [Your Phone Number] or [Your Email Address] to discuss further or provide guidance on making the one-time payment.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Complaint: 21207190
Dear Alliant Credit Union,
I hope this message finds you well. Thank you for your prompt response regarding my concerns about the ******************************* (***) charges on my loan account. However, I must express my continued unease with the proposed resolution.
I acknowledge that *** coverage is considered high-risk insurance and may be more expensive than other alternatives. Yet, I find it challenging to accommodate the increased loan payment from the contractual amount of $379.23 to $433.60. As mentioned in my previous communication, this adjustment is not financially feasible for me.
I understand the terms outlined in the Retail Installment Contract, including my responsibility to maintain continuous insurance coverage on the vehicle with Alliant listed as the loss payee. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, there was a lapse in coverage during the specified period.
In an effort to find a middle ground and resolve this matter amicably, I propose making a one-time payment of $200.00 to cover the lapsed period when the *** was in place. I understand that this amount may not cover the entire cost of the ***, but it represents a reasonable contribution from my end.
I am open to discussing this further and exploring alternative solutions to meet both parties' needs. If you have any flexibility in considering a one-time payment of $200.00 for the *** coverage, I believe it would be a fair compromise.
If there are any additional details or documents required for this resolution, please let me know. I can be reached at ************. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation in finding a mutually agreeable solution to this matter.
Thank you for your time and attention to this issue.
Sincerely,

Alliant Credit union is claiming to not have received the proof of insurance I uploaded to their 3rd party processing documents. They added cost if insurance to my loan. causing my account to go delinquent. They then did not draw my most recent autodraft putting my credit at risk. I spent a total of 9 hours on the phone, mostly on hold. This borders on extortion and I bet they are doing this to a lot of other people.Business Response

RE:BBB Complaint ID# ********
Dear ***************************,
Thank you for the opportunity to address your concerns. We are happy to research and respond to your complaint. We have reviewed your concerns stated in the correspondence dated January 11, ****, and our response is below.
Our records show that your vehicle loan (L01) was opened in September 2017 to finance a loan amount of $33,241.80 with your first payment due on October 17,2017. You agreed to an 84-month loan term (7 years) with your last payment expected to be made on September 17,****. The amount financed included the purchase of your vehicle from ************* Breakdown Protection (MBP), and Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP), which you elected. Your signed loan agreement discloses that you would pay $38,531.32 after you made all payments as scheduled according to your due date. You may refer to your Loan Agreement or contact Alliant to request a copy.
In review of your loan account, we found you made late payments throughout 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 which resulted in late fees to be applied and additional interest to accrue. In addition, your account has been charged ******************************* (CPI) for a lapse with vehicle insurance coverage and Repossession Fees. Any late payments, accrued interest, and fees may extend the loan term until the entire loan balance is paid in full.
Per your signed Agreement to ***************** and Retail Installment Contract, you agreed to keep full insurance, including collision and comprehensive insurance (deductible $1,000.00 or less), on your vehicle and listing Alliant Credit Union as the lien holder/loss payee for the duration of the loan. Your retail contract discloses that CPI may be obtained at your cost if you fail to provide proof of insurance throughout the life of the loan. When a CPI policy is added to a loan, the amount of the premium is calculated over a twelve-month period and will commonly cause the monthly loan payment to be increased. For information regarding your insurance lapse, and/or providing proof of insurance for a CPI refund, you may call ************** for assistance.
Alliant has accurately credited all loan payments when they were received through the duration of your loan. In response to your complaint, Alliant has confirmed that your loan is being accurately reported to the credit bureau and found no update required. Accordingly, Alliant respectfully rejects your request to update your credit report.
Thank you for your membership and bringing your concerns to our attention. Please feel free to send a secure message via mobile or online banking or phone us at ************** should you have questions or need assistance.
Sincerely,
Alliant Credit Union
