I received a letter from *********** regarding a loan application that was not submitted by me to them. I phoned them to discuss where the loan application came from. They indicated to me that it was submitted by Lending Tree. This likely happened because I visited their website to find comparisons for loan rates, not to actually apply for a loan. I realize that finance companies and banks sometimes do soft inquiries, but this appears to be a submitted application which would be regarded as a hard inquiry --which I did not initiate. While *********** has no loan on file for me with them, there was an application number assigned. There should be some explanation as to why Lending Tree would submit an application I didn't actually process myself. Would like an explanation.

I am rejecting this response because it really doesn't answer my question. I wanted to understand who actually approved the loan application itself. (Since I did not.) I fully understand what Lending Tree's role is. But, I've never heard of ***********. When I called them to find out who actually applied for the loan in my name, they informed me that it was Lending Tree. They also knew it did not come from my actually applying for a Loan from them. The results of the application has nothing to do with my question. I just wanted to know what triggered an actual application to be filed (since it had an actual application number assigned), since it was not me.  After further review of my credit file, it does not appear  as an actual loan application on my credit history. It was then a possible soft inquiry after they got information about my loan comparison activities on Lending Tree. ***********'s letter was misleading (even when I later phoned them about it). They referred me to Lending Tree and made it appear as though someone else other than me applied for an actual loan in my name. I was checking for possible identity theft.

Happy to provide additional clarity on the events surrounding your complaint. Based on the information provided, the consumer should not be concerned with a potential instance of identity theft.

*********** is one of the lender partners (*****************************************************)LendingTree attempts to provide loan offers with upon completion of our form and each lender varies in terms of any communication with consumers following a loan request/inquiry.

When the personal loan inquiry was submitted on 4/15, *********** was one of the lenders matched with the consumer. LendingTree provided the consumers information, as indicated on the consent, which triggered what Jenius identifies internally as an application. Because a loan offer was not extended by the partner, only offers would be visible to the consumer within the LendingTree platform.
We sincerely hope this information has resolved the consumers concerns in this matter.

LendingTree, LLC is an Online Marketplace that allows consumers to compare financial products. LendingTree, LLC does not originate loans or render credit decisions. Our goal is to match consumers with lenders in our network and for those lenders to provide competitive loan options for the consumer.

After investigation, the consumer filled out a loan inquiry on 4/15 and was not matched with any lenders within our network. Each lenders eligibility requirements vary, and completion of an inquiry form does not guarantee receipt of a loan offer.

LendingTree, LLC sincerely hope this information helps resolve the consumer's concern in this matter.

I just got the app credit karma. IThe app gives preapproved offers of many high interest loans I DID NOT apply for any of them as we decided it was better to take a home equity loan to pay off debt we incurred due to elderly parents. My phone rang Incessantly. Now I am getting notices of a declined app from several stating lending tree applied for a loan! We never applied or submitted a hard application!

Monday April 7 2025 I did a ****** search for "****** commercial building loan calculator" The first ad was from Lending tree and said "Lending Tree Commercial Loan Calculator". I clicked the link and filled out some info, and immediately started getting calls/texts/emails from all kinds of lenders...I was getting 2-4 calls per minute for a while, tons of texts, and tons of emails. I did not consent to sharing my info. I was not asked if my info could be shared. I had no clue there was a chance my info would be shared. I called and requested to be put on the do not call list, do not email list, do not text list, and they said it will take 7-10 days for it to go into effect....which is too long to deal with the number of calls/texts I'm getting. I asked them to remove my information from their system and they will not do that. I'm not sure what to do. This was false advertising. A loan calculator is VERY different than actually applying for a loan.

At some point either late February or early March, my mom applied for a loan through a company called "Lending Tree LLC" located in *******************************************************, and was approved for $3,000. Because my mom provided her banking information to this company when she applied for this loan, she also unknowingly provided my information because we have a shared account. This company then started depositing checks into her account and my account, and transferring the money out. I realized on March 6, 2025 that checks had been deposited into my account that I did not authorize. Then that money was then transferred out out of my account which I also did not authorize. The checks deposited were checks that neither my mother nor I received, or signed, or authorized. The checks deposited into our accounts mentioned nothing about 'Lending Tree LLC" but another company called "*********************" located in ******************************************************************************. There were three checks deposited into my account for the amount of $140 totaling $420, and two checks deposited $150 totaling $300. That money was then transferred from out of my account into my mothers account, and then transferred out of her account. They were going back and forth between both accounts with check deposits and transfer. The number of checks deposited into my mom's account is unknown, but the checks are from the same place. All of these checks have been returned by the bank and I am currently overdrawn -149, and it is unknown how much my mom's account is overdrawn because the bank will not release that information since I'm not on her account. The bank has also taken taken $493 from my account (Which came from money deposited into my account from my paycheck and tax return). I have done a little research and found this company has done the same to others!

I am rejecting this response because: This is the same response as before and everybody is literally saying the same thing about this company! BBB I sincerely hope you investigate this company because they are committing crimes, scams, and fraud! And as stated before, we have the email where it says we were approved for a loan! Watch out for this company, they put checks in other companies name and deposit them into your checking account!

I went through Lending Tree to inquire about business loan options. It was in writing with Lending Tree that there would be NO hard pull or ding on my credit. Lending Tree is a scam working with scam companies as I suddenly get an alert that there was a hard pull on my credit by ****** Leasing. ****** Leasing was never given authorization to do such a thing (I didnt apply for anything with them and has never heard of them) nor was Lending Tree. DO NOT trust your personal information with LENDING TREE OR ****** LEASING. ****** nor Lending Tree will remove the hard pull and Ive had to file a fraud alert with all credit bureaus and lock with all bureaus not knowing what additional places Lending Tree gave my private information to. Nightmare. Unreal these companies are getting away with these things.

I am rejecting this response because: They bury this in some other place in the information process. They absolutely initially indicate that there will be no hard pull to the credit. This is incredibly misleading and deceptive.

I also see in other complaints that I'm not the only person who has been misled by it saying initially that there will be no hard pull and credit will not be affected, so again, they are being misleading and deceptive. I would not consider that to be a company of integrity, being upfront and trustworthy from the very beginning.

As previously stated, ******* obtains consent via the application disclosure to pull credit.
The initial complaint specifies, a hard pull on my credit by ****** Leasing. While we regret that the customer may have been informed that there would only be soft credit pulls, the hard inquiry did not occur within the SnapCap flow.

We recommend that the consumer contact ****** Leasing or the credit bureaus to further dispute the inquiry.
