1 starWe had a loan with M&T Bank thru our company. It was for a vehicle. On April 16,2025 we traded the vehicle in. On April 22,2025 they took the payment out of the account. It was so close that I wasn't to concerned at first. I gave it a couple of weeks and I finally called. The first lady I spoke to was so rude! She said I should contact the dealership because the payoff was one amount and they paid a different. She also stated they didn't withdraw a payment. I called dealership and spoke to them and the more I thought about it I decided to call back to the bank. I spoke to another lady with an attitude, I asked her when the payment for payoff was posted. She said April 21,2025. I asked why did they withdraw a payment of $660.19? She rudely said, "This account is closed and there was never a payment withdrew on the 22nd. So basically calling me a liar. I called 2 days later after I got the print off of the withdraw from the bank. I spoke to a lady named Tina. She was very nice and professional. She seen were the account was closed and there was a payoff of the loan. She also seen where I was getting a refund for the payment they withdrew!!! I just think when you have good customer service it goes a long way. Tina needs a raise! The other 2 ladies need a new job with an attitude adjustment. I was so mad I never got their names. I have seen online all the bad reviews from this bank. If I am offered a loan,line of credit from this bank I will definitely decline. Thank youReview fromStephanie M

2 starsLike a few others, I financed the purchase of my travel trailer through M&T Bank while going through the dealership. The first year and half or so were fine. Made regular payments and nothing problematic. However, once I paid off my loan early (no penalty for me at the point I paid off) - they revoked my access to my online account and would not provide me with any documentation that I paid it off until I received a letter in the mail (over 4 weeks after paying it off). I spoke to customer service a number of times attempting to get them to send me an email with my account balance showing zero and they outright refused. Each customer service person I spoke to gave me a different answer and made me run in circles. Ultimately, they were utterly useless and I was left waiting at the mercy of snail mail. Their policies are hurtful to their so called "customers" and I would 100% NOT RECOMMEND any banking or loan interactions with this bank.Review fromSu R

1 starIf I could give a zero star I would!!! Terrible mortgage company. They are rude & wont help in a hardship! Your options are from worse to a setup for failure. Basically give us a payment or sell your house. Is what’s on the table right now. For a payment that we have 16 days past due.Review fromToni R

They are the worse mortgage company I have ever dealt with. Nobody knows anything nor do they ever follow up. I was went ******** before them and never had any issues. I was in a forbearance due to having being laid off and Hurricane Helene. They transferred my mortgage to them and it’s been downhill ever since. They flagged my credit report saying that I was delinquent. Is that not the point of being on a forbearance.Every time I speak with someone I get different information. The customer service is horrible, everyone is rude and lacks knowledge. I honestly wouldn’t recommend them to a dog.M&T Bank

After more than 10 years as a loyal customer, starting with ******** ****** *** before M&T acquired it, I’ve officially closed my account due to the unprofessional conduct of an employee, Michael M***** at the Huntington, NY, branch. On May 8th, 2025, I came in to have a legitimate ********* Police Department application form notarized—a time-sensitive and official document I needed to submit the same day. Mr. M**** refused, saying he was “uncomfortable” notarizing it, despite there being nothing unusual or questionable about the form. This was not an isolated incident. In February, the same employee gave me a hard time over a simple $75 international wire transfer to my bank account in the Republic of Georgia. In both cases, Mr. M**** was rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. That level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. I closed my account on the spot and opened one at ***** Bank, where the staff immediately notarized the same form without hesitation. They were even surprised that M&T had refused, confirming that the document was 100% legitimate. It's a shame that a decade of loyalty ended because of one employee’s discomfort and lack of basic professionalism. If you value reliable service, I strongly recommend banking elsewhere.M&T Bank

The branch located in Fox Run Bear De has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. They are outright racist to white people. If your white you will be ignored or chastised for standing in wrong spot. Woman who opens accounts (in office on right of you're looking at entrance from inside) is extremely rude and authoritative for no reason...other than racism. Another employee gave my ID to a drive through customer never to be retrieved and I was never compensated for a new one but they don't hesitate to charge your account bs fees. We have a couple of accounts and an estate account that we will be removing from this bank after 15 yrs of banking w themM&T Bank

My mortgage loan just transferred to this bank and all of these bad complaints are scary, I am behind on my April mortgage and when I tried to pay it may 4th they wouldn't not allow me to pay just the month I am behind on and they combined april and may payment together and I am just 6 days into may and have until the 15th before it's late. They lock you out of your online account on purpose so you can't make a the monthly, and reject the phone payments unless you pay 2 months all together for a payment you're not even behind on yet. The phone payment system gives you the biggest run around ever and the service reps constantly misinform you. I feel like this bank has put in place tricky terms in their policy to purposely make home owners default on there mortgage payments so they can foreclose and steal their homes. I never had these issues with my last mortgage lender. I have been in my home for 11 years with no mortgage lender problems and soon as I get bought by M&T. All The problems start.M&T Bank

1 starI have had a checking and savings account with M&T bank just a month short of two years. I have never received a debit card. I would receive a temporary PIN number, which arrives separately, but never a debit card. I’ve since moved twice, and have had to update my address. I wait the mandatory 2 week wait period, call to order my card, only to find out the banker I spoke to previously, entered my address wrong (spelling). Even after spelling it out. It’s so bizarre. Today, I called to order my card/PIN (again) and was met with a distasteful customer service experience. After providing my banker with the necessary information, I politely asked my already irritated banker, to put in my order. I was told that a PIN does not get mailed, just the debit card and I set the PIN upon arrival. I know this not to be true as I have received temporary PINs before. I communicate that to my banker, it further irritates him. He informs me that he put in an order for my card and nearly hangs up on me. I call back, speak to a supervisor, and I'm informed that I can’t get a card sent out because my address has just been updated. I did not update my address, that’s not even what I called for, I’m beyond confused at this point. I let her know I updated my card 2 weeks ago and I intended on ordering a card/PIN, that’s when she tells me there’s no record of me calling 2 weeks ago. I asked, “was it 3 weeks”? She replies, “yes”. Although I’m aware of her condescendence, I shared that I just wanted to be sure I didn’t call back prematurely. It was extremely hard to get a word in, as she was continuously talking at me, answering questions I didn’t have. Dismissive. I was left feeling like I was being unreasonable, hard to deal with and at fault. The entire interaction today was beyond frustrating and rude. I Will say, my previous experiences speaking with bankers has typically been pleasant, despite consistent errors. However, today was enough to close my account. Not worth it.Review fromAnkry L

If I could give m&t zero stars I would. Matthew is rude as well as all the other customer service reps. They make it hard to get answers & get issues resolved. This is the worse bank ever. Hopefully ***** will put an end to M&T also.M&T Bank

My mortgage was transferred to m &t and I am not happy with them. I have not received a statement for three months from them. I even set up automatic payments and they told me that the information was wrong, even though it was correct. It's funny how my house payment went to 1040 a month from 800. I am going to transfer my mortgage to a lender that is in my city and state. Beware when the weather is bad and the mail is slow they will charge a late fee. I don't recommend this company.M&T Bank
