TrustPilot is in the business of collecting and displaying trustworthy reviews of businesses so users and shoppers can make informed decisions before buying something from that business. I own a business and have hired other businesses for a variety of work. On occasion, the work received or the experience was poor, so Ive left bad reviews. So far, so good. Unfortunately, some businesses retaliate by leaving bad reviews for my business even though they have not had a genuine experience with my business. This has happened multiple times with multiple businesses. TrustPilot does have a system through which you can flag fake reviews. But it is highly flawed. One business has tricked TrustPilot into thinking multiple fake reviews are real. At this point, theyve left three fake reviews. Ive brought this up with TrustPilot and theyve basically said, If you dont agree with the persons experience, you can leave a comment on the review. Its not who I dont agree with the reviews. Its that the reviews are fake.I asked for my business to be removed from the platform since the platform is not trustworthy, but apparently thats not an option. TrustPilot needs to make it more difficult to prove that a review is real.Business Response

I purchased a robe from Pretty Robes. The purchase price was $26.95. The money was withdrawn from my bank account and paid on April 2, 2023. I have not received my robe nor my money. After several emails, I was told that they would look into it. As of May 13, I have received nothing.Customer Answer

We've already shown the content integrity team 25 times how the fake reviews go against trustpilots own guidelines. Trustpilot employees knowingly are allowing a fake review that's against its own standards and practices. Over 15 different employees are aware of this and Trustpilot refuses to remove reviews that are against its guidelines
Trustpilot is behaving unethically and refuses to follow their rules on what reviews can be left. We do not accept this canned response as over 25 messages and attempts to rectify the situation have been ignored.

Trust Pilot received a 5-star review from a client of our firm and turned the review into a 3.7-star rating that it now broadcasts to the public, completely maligning our firm's reputation with no basis in truth. This company is a complete scam, as the scores of other bad reviews and complaints clearly reveal. Why Trust Pilot has a BBB A+ rating is clearly only because the company has paid the BBB, because the company exists to publish lies and defraud consumers.Business Response

Hi,
Thanks for the review. Your TrustScore is much more than just a simple average of ratings. Its calculated based on several factors, to ensure fairness and balance. For businesses with less than ****** reviews, the overall TrustScore is recalculated immediately after a new review is posted. For businesses with more than ****** reviews, TrustScore recalculation happens once per day, since the TrustScore will not change as quickly once this threshold is reached.
The formula for calculation considers three factors: time span, frequency, and Bayesian average.-Time span. A TrustScore gives more weight to newer reviews, and less to older ones. The most recent review holds the most weight, since newer reviews give more insight into current customer satisfaction.
-Frequency. Businesses should continuously collect reviews to maintain their TrustScore. Because the most recent review holds the most weight, a TrustScore will be more stable if reviews are coming in regularly.
-Bayesian average. We use a Bayesian average in the calculation, to make sure that a business with fewer reviews starts off with a balanced TrustScore. This means that we automatically include the value of 7 reviews worth 3.5 stars each in all TrustScore calculations. As a business collects more reviews, this becomes a smaller factor in the calculation. After the calculation, a TrustScore is then visualized into a star rating from 1 to 5 stars, including half stars. Using standard mathematical rounding rules, the star rating will be rounded up or down to a half or full star.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:The response from Trust Pilot is completely unresponsive to the grievances and allegations of misleading the public, slander and deceptive trade practices described in my original complaint. The "canned" answer provided was nothing but a copy-and-paste description of how this company uses a complex and completely misleading method to rate companies like mine, who do not sign up for the Trust Pilot review gathering service. Trust Pilot is a "pay to play" scam that forces companies to harass their clients for reviews non-stop (and pay for ********************** as the only way to avoid having Trust Pilot distort and downgrade your business' actual rating. The response from the company clearly stated that the only way to keep a high score is to force clients to fill out Trust Pilot's review. Please see the attached screenshot of my firm on Bing, which reflects that there is one 3.7 star rating of my firm by a client. In reality, that rating is a 5-star rating, so Trust Pilot is slandering my firm. As also evident from the attached Bing search results screen shot, there is a BBB 5-Star rating based on 1 reviewer's input. That is accurate, since the BBB has not downgraded or distorted my firm's rating, and is displaying it properly. Trust Pilot is portraying to the consuming public that my law firm has one 3.7-Star review, when in fact my company has one 5-Star review. The rating system published by Trust Pilot completely misrepresents the rating received by a company like mine, suggesting that my firm has one bad review without explaining that Trust Pilot has taken upon itself to assign that review because I have not paid the company to hassle people for reviews.
I want Trust Pilot to remove my law firm from its database all together, or reflect that there is one 5-star rating on my firm's profile -- and NOT that there is one 3.7 rating as it currently displays on search engines (which is completely misleading to the public). In other words, Trust Pilot's rating of my firm as shown in Bing search results should show the exact same rating as the BBB's rating of my firm, which is accurate. Trust Pilot should not be allowed to broadcast to the consuming public that someone gave my firm a 3.7-star rating.
In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Hi,
We dont delete business profile pages from Trustpilot. We let consumers decide which businesses are reviewed on Trustpilot it's not up to us, we simply host the content. A business profile page is automatically created when someone searches for the business's web address on our platform, or it can be added from the search results page. Consumers can then start posting reviews about their recent experience with the business.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:The response is a canned answer that ignores the fact that once a business profile has been created within Trust Pilot's system, Trust Pilot takes it upon itself to disparage and slander the business with a false negative rating that has no basis in reality, because Trust Pilot knows absolutely nothing about the businesses it tries to extort under threat of negative online publicity. Trust Pilot's entire business model is premised upon extorting companies like ours to pay to collect reviews from customers, and failure to do so non-stop will result in a negative review -- even if the company provides excellent service but does not want to hassle customers with having to create a Trust Pilot account. Trust Pilot's response is disingenuous and misleading, since the company exists to force companies to enroll in its advertising program under threat of a bad rating online that is ONLY a reflection of a business' refusal to participate in Trust Pilot's "pay to play" scheme. I want Trust Pilot to not reflect a negative rating of our company that has absolutely no basis or foundation and represents nothing more than an effort to extract money from our firm.

Trustpilot claims to be a consumer advocate but my and my wife's experience say different. They have stonewalling our complaint against Debthutch for over two months now. Asking for proof, arguing details, and harping on the fact that m wife made the complaint while the unsolicited add that started it all was addressed to me. According to them, their policy says she can only make a complaint for her experience. That proved that they didn't read our complaint at all, or they would know that she called debthutch for me and was lied to and insulted. Trustpilot is not trustworthy and protects corrupt businesses, not consumers.Business Response

We recently discovered two negative reviews on our Trustpilot page (we didn't know it existed). These reviews are about services we don't offer. It appears either someone confused us with another business or they are downright scam reviews. We contacted Trustpilot and they keep giving us a run round while trying to get us signed up to some sort of a business account. Over 3 weeks of time wasting tactics to force us into some sort of a payment arrangement. They have shown no willingness to investigate reviews. We are an online media publishing company and the reviews talk about orders not being delivered. We don't sell, ship or deliver anything. Trustpilot hasn't bothered to look into this nor they have bothered to ask 'so called reviewers' for any information relating to their 'alleged business dealings' with us. They just reply using template emails trying to sell us a business account. It's a business that needs to be investigated. I am inclined to write to my local member of parliament to alert authorities into their shady conduct.Business Response

This company is not out to help anyone but themselves. Not only do they have my business listed they have FAKE reviews on my account. I have challenged over a dozen of the complaints that we know are fake. Not only does the person who left the fake review not respond per Trust Pilot if a customer or fake person does not respond the review should be taken down. They are allowing anyone to make a review without any justification or proof. We have hired a legal team to look into this as it is illegal for fake reviews to be put out there. Not only is it slander its cripples a company. Not to mention they should have to get your permission to even post your company online. We are going to do whatever it takes even if it takes a class action lawsuit as I have talked to many other vendors that we work with experiencing the same issue with this company. Fake reviews being allowed to stay on the site. Not to mention they are not even a credited company. Either remove my company entirely from your site or remove all the fake reviews. Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. If someone has written a review about your business on Trustpilot, you've got a business profile page. Its visible on Trustpilot whether youve claimed it or not. When you claim yours, your business will be able to engage with reviewers and access our Free plan features, or upgrade to any of our other plans. Once claimed, your profile will display the status label Claimed.
Please also know that flagging a review is part of a structured process handled by our Content Integrity Team. A review can only be flagged for one reason at a time. When a review is flagged, it generates a ticket in the system used by our Content Integrity Team. This ticket enters a queue of requests to be handled by one of our Content Integrity Agents and they assess whether the review breaches our guidelines for the specific reason chosen by the business. Our Content Integrity Team will let you know the outcome of their investigation and whether the review will stay online or be removed. A review stays online if it doesn't breach our guidelines for the reason specified, if there's not enough evidence to establish a breach, or if the reviewer resolved the identified problem. A review can be removed if it doesn't meet our guidelines and the identified problem can't be resolved or isn't resolved by the reviewer.
If you flagged a review and it stayed online but you think it still violates our guidelines, please contact our Content Integrity team via this form so they can take a second look: **************************************************************.

Trustpilot is a company that is supposed to provide unbiased and honest reviews of the business by its customers. Instead, Trustpilot appears to be on a paroll of the very same companies they publish customer reviews about. I hav a very bad experience with market survey company called E-rewards and attempted to publish my true experience with this company at Trustpilot website. Both times Trustpilot removed my reviews siting "inability to verify authenticity of complaint" and when I asked them what proof they need they gave me totally absurd request for invoices, order numbers, ets. Trustpilot should know better that market survey company like E-rewards does not have any of these: instead, it published a list of available market surveys, paanelist answers survrey and receives his virtual award that he can use to buy airline miles ar E-rewards store. Apparently Trustpilot is totally unaware of business nature of the companies they publish reviews for. On the other hand, fake positive reviews, that E-rewards generates to boost its ratings at Trustpilot site are allowed to stay despite the fact that such "positive" reviews are published in a clustered manner, that is, a pack of 5-6 positive reviews at once, whereas rate of real reviews, both positive or genative, are 1-2 per week. With that said, I see Trustpilot as company that deliberately distorts the picture of real public stance about reviewed companies, thus providing disservice to the consumer community. Dishonest company should not be involved in public opinion business. I am not asking to reinstate my reviews: I know Trustpilot will not do it because it doesn't earn them any revenueBusiness Response

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. Anyone who has had a genuine experience with a business in the past 12 months can write a review as explained in our guidelines. But, sometimes we'll need to ask for documentation in order to verify an experience. For example, when:
-The business flags your review because they believe it's not based on a genuine buying or service experience with them.
-Another user of our platform flags your review because they have reason to believe it is fabricated.
-Our fraud detection software has flagged and removed your review.
Providing us with documentation of your personal buying or service experience lets us verify that you're eligible to write a review. This helps us create a more trustworthy online review community. If you're having trouble locating what we need, please communicate that in your open tickets with our Content Integrity team so they can better help out.We do lots to combat fake reviews and we mean lots! Every review on Trustpilot is screened by our bespoke automated fraud detection software that identifies and removes fakes. It looks at multiple data points, such as IP addresses, user identifiers, device characteristics, location data and timestamps, to determine if it exhibits patterns of suspicious behavior. Whenever our software detects clearly fraudulent reviews, the review is moved offline and we send an email to notify the reviewer (we wont send an email if the review is clearly advertising or promotional content). This provides reviewers with an opportunity to correct any false positives. However, if we have overwhelming evidence that the review is fake, we wont reinstate it.
In addition to that, both businesses and consumers have the opportunity to flag a review if it contravenes our guidelines. Our Content Integrity Team checks each flagged review, and if they find that it breaks the rules, they take action. Flagged reviews stay online while they are being investigated, except for content flagged as harmful or illegal, which must be hidden in order to protect the public and comply with regulation. Our rules are ******* clear that only flagging negative reviews is against our guidelines. Businesses that misuse the flagging function damage the trustworthiness of our platform and we take this very seriously.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[I regard this response as hollow. It is nothing but a faceless piece of text with content of zero value. I already explained to your support that E-rewards I posted my review about, has no invoices, order numbers or any other tangible proof. They publish surveys on their website and panelists answer them for the reward that can be reedemed for airline miles. I am one of the panelists. Requesting any type of proof here is the same as requesting a sample of snow in ******* that fell in 2015. Yet, other people were able to post negative reviews about E-rewards, but your "great" software found my review to be fake. Why it didn't find other negatives reviews to be fake - these people didn't provide invoices, order numbers, etc. Instead of openly admitting that your activity monitoring software is buggy and misfires, you sing praises to yourself and your software. Just get back to reality, your BBB review rating is far below the average which means bad and irresponsible business. In fact, your company and E-rewards share the same low rating. And please don't tell me stories how you fight fake reviews. I observed how positive E-rewards reviews appear on your site: they always come in the pack of 5-8, whereas real reviews are spaced by much longer periods of time, they are never delivered in clusters, like fake ones. I love reading that "I am a happy user with 10 years at E-rewards with no problems ever, grat support, etc, etc" whereas sudden and unjustified account deactivations happen to all panelist of E-rewards, no exception and E-rewards is infamous for their support department that practically every negative review mentions... Yes, E-rewards is boosting its rating by generating fake positives and somehow your glorious software completely overlooks it, but it is swift to ban real reviews like mine. Enough said]
