I tried to cancel my subscription after, the city in ** I lived in shutdown during Covid in 2021 for the second time. I tried to cancel but missed the 3 day free trial. Which didnt even have events going on because of the shut down. They are still charging me full price, even though I never went to an event. I am now on a fixed income and been struggling to make these payments that I have been forced to pay. Because the contract that I agreed to didnt fit with the environment of that time.

I signed up for this service after I was pressured but the agent during a screening process to be able to be invited to join. She made it in a way that if I dont take the deal then and there whenever I decide to join I would have to pay more for it. I signed up and went to two events and decided I wanted to cancel the service was not for me. They refuse to cancel and are asking me to pay thousands of dollars and settle with them for a service I dont even want. They are refusing to cancel the service, Im not even asking for a refund just wanted them to cancel and they wont. They keep emailing me threatening to take me to collections for this but I just dont want to attend these events and want to cancel. They are making it very hard and Im just very frustrated with this company for doing this to me. Please help me I need them to leave me alone and live my life. I dont want their services, why are they trying to force me to pay for something I dont want or use? I dont know what to do anymore I feel like Im being bullied for money by these people I just want them to cancel they want to hold me hostage why? Please I need help.

Mr. ******* joined Events and Adventures on June 8th, 2024 for a two year membership. His cancellation request came two months after his original sign up date.  Once received we reached out to him giving him different options to resolve his account as a courtesy. He is refusing any help and continues to yell at our staff.
Events and Adventures have continued to provide the services that are outlined in the membership agreement.  We would like to get him in touch with our local Event Manager so we can help guide him to events that would better suit his interests and people he would like to meet.

I signed up for Events and ****************** for 30 months and paid in full on July 15, 2024 with postponed start date that was approved by their manager **** ******** to August 18th because I was out of town and I couldn't utilize their services. I was with this organization from August 18th till September 2nd, during which I observed how they charge extra for services not provided beyond what I already paid and also overcharge for events, and when I requested a refund of membership they refused. Please understand that I only attended 3 events in the period of 2 weeks and paid extra for every single event and they were all overcharged, they even charged me for the meals that they never provided and refused to refund me for that as well. They are scamming customers. I simply cannot stay with this company, and they have refused to refund my money back for the 30 months of membership which is against the federal consumer protection laws to charge for services that was not rendered.

      Business Response

      Date: 12/16/2024

Ms. ********* became a member with Events & Adventures starting on July 13th, 2024. Memberships begin the date of sign up, we do not postpone start dates. We do not represent ourselves as a discount club, we provide a safe environment for singles to meet without having to worry about the small details. We plan every detail of the events for them, some of our events that require us to buy tickets or reserve spots do have an additional cost which we do present in our interview before sign up. We also provide plenty of free events each month, where our members can go and enjoy themselves with like minded singles.
The event Ms. ********* is referring to was our Labor Day Weekend trip.  It was one cost for the entire weekend. Included in the price was: food, activities, housing, and entertainment . If there were any dietary accommodations needed she needed to inform her Event Manager ahead of time, this was not completed. Food was provided for all attendees for the weekend. As a courtesy we did provide $50.00 in Event Credits for her misunderstanding. However, her guests were still charged for their sleeping accommodations as we paid for their housing.
Events and Adventures has provided the services that were agreed upon on the membership agreement signed by both parties.

      Complaint: 22556450

I am rejecting this response because:

      Dear Better Business Bureau,
Thank you for your efforts in protecting consumers and ensuring accountability. I am writing to respond to the statement provided by Events & Adventures, as it contains several inaccuracies and misrepresentations of my experience.
      1.Membership Start Date:
When I signed up and paid the full membership fee of $2,775 in July 2024, I explicitly informed **** ******** at Events & Adventures that I would be unavailable until August 18th due to travel. He confirmed that my membership start date would be postponed accordingly. Despite this assurance, the company now denies any such arrangement, which aligns with the concerning practices I have observed during my brief experience with them. The companys claim that memberships begin the date of sign-up is false and directly contradicts the understanding I had at the time of enrollment.
      2.Labor Day Weekend Trip Charges:
Events & Adventures states that the Labor Day Weekend trip fee covered food, activities, housing, and entertainment. This is categorically untrue in my case. I paid $1,400 directly to Events & Advantures for my lodging, as evidenced by my attached bank statement. Additionally, I was charged $190 for food that was never provided. My friends booked their accommodations separately directly with the site and paid directly to the venue. We did not utilize the companys activities or entertainment during the event.
3.Dietary ******************************* claims I failed to inform the Event Manager of my dietary restrictions, but this is also false. I notified them in advance, and I am attaching email communications as proof. Despite my proactive communication, no suitable accommodations were made, leaving me without food options during the event.
      ******** and Professionalism Concerns:
Events & Adventures states that they provide a safe environment for singles, but my experience demonstrates otherwise. The event coordinator responsible for food preparation appeared intoxicated and subsequently became unavailable after experiencing food poisoning. This unprofessional behavior not only compromised the event but also left me feeling unsafe and unsupported.
      5.Service Misrepresentation and Unauthorized Charges:
The companys practice of charging members for services not rendered is deeply concerning. Despite advertising that event fees include accommodations, I was required to pay separately for my lodging and food, neither of which were covered. Furthermore, they made unauthorized charges to my saved card without my consent.

In light of these issues, I am formally requesting a full refund of my 30-month membership fee of $2,775. Under ******** consumer protection laws, businesses cannot charge for services not provided, and Events & Adventures has clearly violated these standards.
My experience with this company lasted just two weeks before I observed numerous red flags, including dishonesty, unprofessional staff behavior, and fraudulent billing practices. I no longer feel safe or comfortable having any association with this business.
I kindly request your assistance in resolving this matter and holding Events & Adventures accountable. Please let me know if additional documentation or evidence is required.
Thank you for your time and dedication to consumer advocacy.

      Sincerely,

      ***** *********

      Business Response

      Date: 01/22/2025

As stated in our first response to Ms. ********* we do not postpone start dates, the contract is very clear. She paid her membership in full, thus started her membership. Though she perceived this differently, the written print in the contract is what we follow and abide by, she is outside of her cancellation window for a refund and the membership payment remains owed.
The $190.00 charge for the Labor Day weekend trip was not for food only.  This cost was for the addition of her two guests that were not members with Events and Adventures to join her.  This cost included all accommodations.  If the guest chose not to participate it is not our responsibility. We had everything available for them to utilize and paid money towards their costs for the trip.  Again, as a courtesy we did refund back $50.00 for a prorate food amount. It is extremely accusatory to claim our staff was intoxicated.  Our event staff are not allowed to drink on the job, we have strict guidelines regarding this so that they are available for our members. We take pride in our staff and know that this is not something they would risk their jobs for. Out of all the members that attended this event we have had zero reports of this happening.  Our staff was not intoxicated or ill during any time of this trip. We are not sure why Ms. ********* would create such harmful accusations.
Just like a gym membership you pay a monthly fee for a service. Our club offers a service for members to utilize, if the member chooses not to participate that doesnt mean that we did not uphold our end of the contract. We offer 15+ events for our members to attend and we go take the worry and planning stress out of going out and having fun.

      Complaint: ********
      Dear BBB team,
      I am rejecting this response.
I am writing to provide further details and evidence regarding case #********. My concerns with Events & Adventures highlight significant issues, including misrepresentation, unauthorized charges, and failure to deliver promised services.
      Membership Start Date Misrepresentation:
During my initial call with **** ********, he assured me that my membership start date would be delayed because I explicitly informed him I would not be back in town to use their services until August 18th. All calls with Events & Adventures are recorded, so they have a record of this conversation where the delay was discussed and agreed upon. Despite this, the company now denies any such agreement. I was only with this company for two weeks before canceling due to dissatisfaction and unprofessionalism.
      Refund Misrepresentation:
I reviewed my credit card transaction history and found no record of the $50 refund they claim to have provided. Additionally, I paid $1,400 directly to the venue for accommodations, as evidenced by my attached credit card statements. This was a separate expense and not part of the services they claim were included in the package. I am also attaching an email where the company admitted to miscommunication regarding my dietary restrictions and offered a minimal refund. This demonstrates that Events & Adventures does not prioritize the well-being of their customers, as no suitable accommodations were provided despite prior notice.
      Unauthorized Charges:
On November 24, 2024two months after I canceled my membershipEvents & Adventures processed an unauthorized $190 charge on my credit card. This demonstrates that the company saved my card information without authorization and used it to process fraudulent charges. To protect myself from further unauthorized activity, I had to cancel my credit card on January 16, 2025.
      Unsafe and Unprofessional Environment:
I am attaching photographs of the kitchen conditions during the Labor Day event, showing open food containers left from the night before. These were located in the suite of the event coordinator, who, according to other members, was intoxicated and later experienced food poisoning. These photographs, along with firsthand accounts, underscore the unsafe and unprofessional environment provided by the company.
Failure to **************** and Misrepresentation of Membership:
Events & Adventures cannot sell a 30-month membership, fail to deliver the promised services, and refuse to issue refunds. Based on their failure to uphold their contractual obligations, I am entitled to a refund for the unused 28 months of my membership. No contract is enforceable if the company fails to deliver the agreed-upon services and fraudulently charges for goods or services not provided.
In light of these concerns, I respectfully request BBBs assistance in obtaining the following refunds:
$190 for the unauthorized charge related to the Labor Day event.
A pro-rated refund for the remaining 28 months of the 30-month membership.
Events & Adventures actions violate the **************************** Act ( ********), which prohibits deceptive practices, including charging for goods or services not delivered. Their recorded calls, attached emails, and the supporting evidence clearly demonstrate their misrepresentations and violations.
Thank you for your attention and assistance in holding this company accountable. Please let me know if you require any additional documentation or evidence.

      Sincerely,

      ***** *********

Most of this has been responded to and addressed in our previous responses. The $50.00 food credit is in her event credits.

Below is the event cancellation refund policy I snipped from the Labor Day Weekend Event that states it will be reimbursed in event credits.

      Dear BBB Team,
I am rejecting this response and writing to reiterate my request for a refund from Events & Adventures due to their failure to provide the services promised under my membership agreement.

This company has not provided me with the full 30-month membership I paid for, yet they are refusing to refund the unused 28 months. According to Virginia state law, which supersedes their contract, businesses are not permitted to charge for services that have not been provided. Events & Adventures has failed to fulfill their obligation, and I no longer wish to continue with a company that has demonstrated fraudulent practices.
Additionally, they have placed multiple unauthorized charges on my account, including a $190 charge in November 2024two months after I canceled my membership. This unauthorized charge, combined with their refusal to honor my refund request, further highlights their deceptive business practices.
The bottom line is clear: Events & Adventures must refund the membership fees for the unused 28 months. Their continued refusal to do so is not only unethical but also a violation of consumer protection laws.
I appreciate BBBs assistance in holding this company accountable and ensuring that they comply with legal standards. Please let me know if you require any further documentation or evidence.
      Sincerely,
      ***** *********

I was marketed a dating service for in person events. I met with a woman from the company for an "interview" she assured me that it was for similar aged and similarly social people. I went to two events within a month of signing up and found that it was not one person in my age range. Then they did not disclose that almost all the events have an additional charge on top of the dues. I reach out to cancel and they say I owe thousands of dollars as it is outside the three day cancelation window and would have no access to the social club even while owing essentially the full fees as if I was still a member. This is absurd and I am furious.

Ms. ********** signed up for an 18 month contract term with our company on 09/10/2024. We are a singles activities club, not a discount club for events. We provide a safe environment for singles to meet up, have fun, and relax with everything planned for them. Any events where we provide food, purchase tickets, or reserve spots do have a cost to them.
Per our agreement we have a three business day cancellation policy, we require a signature beneath this to draw the singers eye to it. Its incredibly important to us that each new member reads through their contract before signing their agreement to our policies.

Ms. ********** has been in contact with our Resolutions Specialist regarding her account. They have offered different options for her to close her account with us and there has not been a resolution just yet. We advise her to continue to work with them to resolve her account, they can be reached at ****************************************************************.

I am rejecting this response because:

I did not cancel within 3 days because I wanted to see who I would meet and if the events were fun. I met individuals who were at least a decade older than me. On top of this all the events I attended, which to no fault of my own occurred after the three day trial which is not a fair length of time to attend an event and see if this service matches its marketing (which is very much does not in my experience), the hosts made inappropriate sexual jokes that made me feel uncomfortable as well. One of the host even made a comment to me about the fact that his "jokes" did not receive a positive reaction from me and how his jokes visibly were making me uncomfortable.

The offer to release me from this contract is still unacceptable. The company is asking I pay near the full price of membership without access to the club or events. I am asking that I only be held responsible for a month's installment as that is how long I actually used this service. I also am in a finical hardship and can no longer afford payment with utilities rent and food.

      Sincerely,

      **** **********

Transaction date: 2/20/2023 Business offered meetups with singles for a monthly price. When signed up, I found the events require payment (even for free public events like outdoor yoga in the park). Ms. ******* signed up for an 18 month contract term with our company on 02/20/2023. All new members meet with our Membership Representatives via a Zoom call. They discuss the services our company offers, as well as the potential members interests to ensure that they align with our companys standards. If our Membership Representative finds the new member to be a good fit they offer a membership for them to accept or decline. She paid an initiation payment of $500.00 with monthly payments of $129.72 until paid in full.

Below is a copy of our freeze policy listed in her contract:

Payments remain owed even if you choose to freeze your account, it saves the time for use at a later date. She was past the cancellation deadline in her contract thus the full balance remains owed. She requested to cancel her account with us on 04/03/2023, she would have needed to cancel by 02/23/2023.
As Ms. ******* stopped making payments of her membership after 05/20/2023 she was sent to our third party collection agency Keynote on 11/06/2023. As we no longer hold her account she needs to resolve this balance with Keynote. They can be reached at **************.

I as duped by a business that prays of single people and their loneliness. I was mislead about the business and not getting services as advertised and they refuse to refund or cancel my membership. I was told I can attend singles events but not told there are to 10 person limits/event limits/ and sign up deadlines, I was told I could try it out for a month but find out later that there is only a 3 day cancellation window to cancel. I signed up the last day of a month and asked to start membership in the next day because it was so late in the evening but was I was charged a full month for that one day anyway. Evey event has an additional participation fee that was not disclosed. They require a membership fee, then a monthly due fee, and now a event fee, that is too much. No dating service or gym membership is over $200 a month, I have paid for a 2 year membership $2,775 and I am not getting anything for money that I have paid. They have not delivered as advertised. It is clear to me that they have intentionally designed a 3 day cancellation window to keep people's money and designed their business to take people money, not on customer satisfaction or a fair service for all the money that they charge. The pictures they sent me while attempting to recruit me/sales pitch do not remotely come close to the participation of actual events. This is very misleading and misrepresenting themselves and the attendance of events, or lack thereof. I politely requested to cancel my membership and explained I was moving to a state that was no where near another location and I would not be able to use their service and again my request to cancel was denied and they refuse to stop my membership or a refund. Can someone help with their unethical business practices and misleading people.

Mr. ***** signed up for a 24 month membership with us on 08/28/2024. We are a singles activities club, not a discount club for events. We provide a safe environment for singles to meet up, have fun, and relax with everything planned for them. Any events where we provide food, purchase tickets, or reserve spots do have a cost to them. All of our events have different attendee limits, the amount depends on the venues we book.
Our Membership Representatives meet with all potential members to screen them and make sure that they will be a good fit with us. We show photos from events that we host to show them what the club has to offer. If we feel they are a good fit the Membership Representative will go over the membership options and give them the opportunity to sign up.
Mr. ***** made the decision to sign up with our club and signed our membership agreement. We have a specific section that requires a signature beneath our cancellation policy.

In order to cancel his membership to get a refund he would have needed to cancel by 09/02/2024. We did not receive a cancellation request until 09/27/2024. As his account stands the remaining balance is owed to our company pre his legally binding contract. Our Resolutions Specialist has been in contact with Mr. ***** and we have offered him different options to close out his account. We suggest Mr. ***** continues to work with us until we can resolve his account. He can reach our ********************** at ****************************************************************.

Events & Adventures is well-overdue for having a class lawsuit filed against them for fraudulent and unethical business practices, to include knowingly committing financial fraud by demanding payment for unused/non-received services in violation of Consumer Protection laws. This unreputable business entity knowingly provides incompetent social platform services, falsely advertising expectations to intentionally mislead and lure in new participants. When their Resolutions team is reasonably and intelligently approached regarding processing a formal cancellation of the undeniably amiss membership to their subpar organization as the inherent result of unsatisfactory performance of their contracted services, E&A proceeds to incompetently subject users to unsound (and federally illegal) cancellation stipulations, demanding payment for services not rendered. As previously stated, a class lawsuit is well overdue.

She requested to cancel her account on 05/24/2024, to be within the valid cancellation period she would have needed to cancel by 05/01/2024 to be valid for a refund. Below is the cancellation policy on her contract that clearly states she has 3 business days to cancel for a refund. We require a signature to draw the members eye here. It is our hope that our new members are reading through their contracts before signing their agreement to them.

We offer a service to our members, similar to a gym membership. If you dont use it you still need to pay for the monthly service as it was ready and available for use. If a member decides not to participate in the club that is their decision, however we are providing services that they signed up for.
As her account stands the balance remains legally owed per the contract she signed with us. If we do not receive payment for over 90 days Ms. ******* account is in danger of being sent to our third party collections agency Keynote. We urge her to continue to work on her account balance with Resolutions.

I am rejecting this response because: As a consumer-based business, you are not exempt from Consumer Protection Laws. E&As services were deemed UNSATISFACTORY, hence the formal submission of a request for all business affiliation (the pretend contract) to be fully terminated upon immediate discovery of such fact about your companys inability to deliver quality services. Should you, for some reason, not understand what UNSATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE OF SERVICES means as it pertains to fraudulent request/receipt of payment for said UNSATISFACTORY services, it is highly recommended that you pursue legal education and wisdom through more competent legal counsel. Additionally, your retaliatory response to the above BBB complaint where you have proceeded to sheepishly attempt to bully your customer via email by jumping from warning them of a 90-day countdown until you report the cancelled account to collections (Notice 1 sent/received on 7/30/2024; see attached) to suddenly warning of it now being instead a 60-day countdown exactly 10 days after the first notice was provided (Notice 2 sent/received on 8/9/2024; see attached), further exposes and unequivocally proves E&As inadequacy as a business entity from the top down. This type of hostility, abuse of power, and behavior toward both a Military Veteran and ****************** employee is both bewildering and highly alarminga heinous act certainly not going unnoticed. E&A has proven, and continues to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are NOT a company to go into any type of business with under any circumstance or influence. Best of luck in your business endeavors and the foreseeable future legal happenings.

      Sincerely,

      *************************

I was tricked into buying a misrepresented service, with the assurance on a "reasonable" return policy after the 3 day window on their contract... this should be available on the recorded intake call they had with me, there are records of these lies they made. But I was denied the refund based on a technicality in their contract. Their employees are lying on sales calls and contradicting the details in the contract they get you to sign at the end. I've been trying to dispute this with their support team but they've been very uncooperative and essentially just ignoring my reasoning. I used 1/18 of my subscription and I want a return that is proportional to my outstanding credit. Clearly foul business practices going on here, with zero respect or care for their customers and willfully ignoring the evidence here.

**************** signed up for an 18 month membership with our club on 04/29/2024. He requested to cancel his account on 06/05/2024, he would have needed to cancel by 05/02/2024 to be considered valid for a refund. As he was well outside of this cancellation period he is not due a refund. Per his legally binding contract **************** agreed to our policies, we require a signature directly beneath this to draw the members eye to read through this.

Our Resolutions Specialist has reach out to **************** explaining the policy. New members are welcome to attend events within that 3 day window, however we honor the terms agreed upon on their contract. Our sales representatives know our cancellation policy and would not inform new members that they can cancel at any time as this is strictly not the case.

I am seeking a refund from this club and have been unsuccessful in communicating via email with the resolution team at Events & Adventures. During my time as a member, I attended multiple events. I do not wish to go into lengthy detail or talk poorly about anyone, but due to the behavior of other members, this experience has been truly negative. At the beginning I felt mildly uncomfortable at these events, but it escalated into embarrassment and disappointment, significantly influencing my decision to cancel my membership. When I initially signed up for the membership, I had high expectations based on the information provided about the club's offerings and events. Unfortunately, my experience has not aligned with those expectations, and I have found that the club does not meet the description provided upon sign-up. I would not be asking for a refund if I believed this is what I signed up for. I understand the company isn't legally obligated to give me a refund. However, this feels extremely unethical. The cancellation policy allows for only 3 days. I did not attend any event within the first three days after agreeing to the membership, as I am sure is the case for most new members. I was also asked to sign the agreement during the initial interview, which did not allow for enough time to read the agreement thoroughly.

********************** signed up with Events and Adventures on April 29th, 2024 via Zoom after meeting with a Membership Representative.  In this meeting it is discussed as to what our membership entails as well as confirming if the club is a good fit on both sides.  ********************** decided she wanted to purchase a one year membership.  An agreement was sent via our signing website.  It is at this time that ********************** was to review the agreement before signing.  The agreement sent includes what is being purchased:

Once the agreement was signed access to our website was given in which she was able to review and sign up for the events that are provided as stated  in the agreement. ********************** has signed up for a total of nine events with Events and Adventures. On July 8th, 2024 ********************** requested to cancel her membership.  The agreement that was originally signed lays out the three day cancellation window. By the time the cancel was requested she was outside of that time frame. We require the member to sign directly below to help make sure the person signing is indeed reading this information.

In every city we have a designated Event Manager who creates new events every single month.  We have new members signing up daily.  We recommend reaching out to her designated Event Manager for suggestions on events that might better suit her interests. There is always a new crowd at every event due to the consistency of new people joining.

I am rejecting this response because:

You listed all the logistic facts about signing up for the Events & Adventures process which was accurate. What you failed to address was the experience I had after attending four events trying to give the club a fair chance to live up to what I was lead to believe in the interview. I signed up for Goat Yoga, it was cancelled. I signed up for a walk around a lake, we did not go far due to the groups wish to not walk very much. The last event I attended was a weekday afternoon happy hour; our group was asked to order an uber for a member of the party because she was asleep at the bar before she came back to our table and barfed on the floor. Throughout this experience I was insulted and uncomfortable. I understand what I signed up for. This club was not at all what I signed up for. I understand why I was encouraged to attend multiple events before coming to any kind of conclusion about the club, but that does not leave any protection for me as a member if the cancellation policy is only 3 days. I can only imagine this is on purpose. Please consider I had the highest of hopes for this club and the promises that were made, it is with great disappointment that I seek to cancel my membership and seek a refund.

      Sincerely,

      *****************************

DO NOT SIGN UP!!! Context: I am a disabled veteran who had just moved to the ******* area and decided to add E&A to my list of activities to get out and meet new people in the area. After realizing that you can LITERALLY go on Meetup, ******************** events, etc for FREE I decided to cancel my membership (or so I thought).I hadnt been to a single event yet, hadnt had my membership for even a week, and emailed them right back telling them I wanted out. They have a 3 day cancellation policy that has to be done by certified mail, so my email that I sent them apparently didnt count. They wanted $2500 to cancel, and when I told them to freeze my account they continued to charge me and eventually sent me to a collections agency. Bottom line is, this place is a complete scam and I cannot believe that this is how they treat our countries veterans. All of the events they planned were far as ****, the hosts and people in the corporate office that I talked to were extremely rude, and I could not recommend this place any less.
